  1. Rescues call the RSPCA on each other too... if there was ever a haven for crazy people, it would definitely be in rescue... errr! I've never met a more "interesting" bunch of people... Then again, rescue also has some that are the most selfless and kind people that have ever walked the earth... thankfully I've met a handful of them too... *grin* You and I have had our disagreements here HW... but I will always count you as one of the "good guys"... we don't always have to agree, and it makes for some lively discussions, doesn't it? T.
  2. I downloaded the trial version of SageLight today... might install it on the weekend and have a play... if I like, I'll pay the $40 for the full version to tinker with while I'm off work recovering from my gallbladder removal... T.
  3. Only 6 years coming up for me... seems like longer... *grin* T.
  4. *eyes are leaking... happy leaking* What a gorgeous advert... shame it's for beer... says something so amazing in 30 seconds... T.
  5. Haha! The only editing I currently do is a bit of contrast and maybe a little sharpening... I might look into obtaining a "free" copy of Sagelight... it looks less scary than Photoshop (I have CS4 here somewhere... err!) T.
  6. Could he have been bitten by a bee or other insect? T.
  7. So - for the decent photos I have in RAW, what should I be looking at in the editing phase to make them really "pop"? T.
  8. Well - I went out to the local mini lake and set the camera to RAW+JPG... boy that eats a LOT of your card, and is a lot slower transferring the huge RAW files from the camera to the card! 295 photos later, and I really can't see too much difference between the RAW images and the JPG ones... and have no idea what I should be looking at adjusting on the RAW ones anyways... HELP! I really need a complete idiot's guide as to what to do with DPP... *sigh* I was shooting in the Sport preset as I was trying mainly for birds in flight or moving... have quite a few really blurry ones that even editing won't be able to save, but that's OK... I have plenty of pretty nice ones too. T.
  9. I usually go to Symbio or Taronga zoos on saturday and sunday... this saturday I'm going to Featherdale again with a friend... and sunday will be Symbio. The following weekend I'm not sure, as I'm getting my gallbladder out on the 6th Feb, and don't know if I'll be up to travelling to my usual zoos and walking about for hours... *grin* So I reckon my photos will be zoo animals predominately... but I may throw in the odd one from the local mini lake with birdies (ducks, cockatoos, ibises, and the like) if that's ok? T.
  10. I'm thinking she might like all of the fun smells the dog park has to offer her - she can meander about and check it all out at her own leisure... which is most likely why she associates "park" with something she wants to do. What she isn't fussed on is not being in control of her own space. Maybe you could find a time at the park when it's not busy, and see how she likes having it all to herself? I'm thinking she'll be in doggy heaven... Not all dogs should be or should want to be social butterflies - some are more like hermits prefering to have plenty of their own space in order to feel comfortable. T.
  11. If it weren't so expensive to fly my dogs over to you OSoSwift... *grin* What got me in the craw was the girl's attitude on the phone... they're our new prices, and that's what you'll be paying - regardless that you made the booking after being given the price at the time of booking... and I'm not going to be giving you ANY opportunity to talk to someone who can reverse MY decision on the matter. Some people really shouldn't be allowed to deal with the public... *sigh* As for the clinic that DID get my booking - the difference in attitude of the lovely girl I spoke to there couldn't have been a bigger breath of fresh air. She had all of the information I was asking for at hand, answered all my questions professionally and happily. T.
  12. Well - the price hike boarding simply isn't getting my business now - so they are the ones losing on the deal really, aren't they? At 26.10 per day per dog for 8 nights, they were standing to make nearly $420 from me... now they aren't getting ANY money from me at all. I know both the owner of the clinic and the partner vet... funny how the girl found every excuse not to put either of them onto the phone when I asked for them by name. She told me that the owner was on holiday until Feb 24 and the partner was in consult for the rest of the day. Next time I see either of them I WILL mention this incident, and put in a complaint about how unprofessional this particular girl is... it won't be the first complaint they've had about her either. The upside is that the new arrangement will only be costing me $301 for the same 8 nights for 2 dogs... *grin* As for the other 2 dogs who will be staying at home - my gorgeous DOLer neighbour will feed them for me while I'm actually in the hospital, and I'll be able to manage them just fine after I come home as they are somewhat less bouncy and silly. I've also found boarding around the corner from home that is affordable (big plus), so maybe I'll be able to have a weekend away now and then... yay! I so want to go to see some of the other zoos with my camera, and was put off by how expensive boarding can be... not any more... I might check out Mogo Zoo first, as I have a friend who lives in Batemans Bay and is happy to put me up for a night or two... *grin* T.
  13. Perhaps the mother shouldn't have been bred is my immediate thought? Dominant alpha type dogs are not dog aggressive in the slightest unless challenged for leadership by another dominant dog wanting that role. Sounds more like the Lab has a low threshold to defence drive like her mum is where that came from. Whatever... The fact still remains that the OP wants some helpful advice on what to do next... t.
  14. What has got me confused? Ummm... everything... lol! I don't find the interface all that interactive/easy to use for a start. You wouldn't think that I'm an IT person at all when you see me muddling away with various types of software... give me a hardware issue, and I'm all over it, but software... nup! I used to play around with Paintshop Pro 9 - before Corel bought it and stuffed it up for v10... THAT had a nice interface and was really quite easy to come to grips with when I was dabbling in Fractal Art for a while a few years back. T.
  15. I wouldn't lose trust in the dog either... but I'd be a hell of a lot more alert for warning signs that she may not be having the great time at the park we think she's having... I won't take my Lab to a dog park now purely because I know exactly what level she can escalate to if her buttons are pressed "just so"... yet I trust her implicitly with my other 2 dogs and a myriad of foster puppies she has helped me raise to an adoptable state/age... T.
  16. this is all I use Is there a halfway readable manual for DPP Kirislin... I'm confused enough just using it to adjust contrast/sharpening... lol! T.
  17. The original vet clinic does not operate as a pound... but $37.95/day/each is a bit of a price hike from $26.10/day/each as originally quoted for 2 large dogs, don't you think? Were they going to tell me that on dropping them off in 2 weeks time hoping that I'd be stuck with the price hike and no option to arrange something else? It was only that I wanted to confirm all was set to go that I found out that they had decided to change the price on me. If I'd been told at the original time of booking that they were likely to up the prices like that AFTER a booking has been made, there's no chance they would have gotten the original booking. The private boarding facility and the other vet clinic both also operate a pound facility, but poundies and boarders don't mix... and they are clearly labelled on the kennels. I've seen both lots of kennels myself. No chance of a mix up... lol! I have an aversion to Hanrob after seeing the condition my neighbour's dog came back from them in - after only 1 weekend. He was never quite the same after that experience... Both of the dogs I am boarding are large - the Labrador is 26kgs, and the horse puppy is 28kgs - so 21.50 is a darned good price IMHO. I also know the staff at the place they are now booked into and they are awesome with ALL of their charges. The kennels aren't the Ritz, but the care does make up for that. T.
  18. So what's your preferred editing software, and how hard is it to learn how to use huga? I'm far from professional - I just like taking lots of nice pics of zoo animals/birds/dogs... *grin*... I basically whack the camera in the Sports preset, aim it at something I find interesting and take lots of pics... That said, I'd like to maybe learn a bit more of what my Canon 60D is actually capable of giving me, but have a complete aversion to doing courses where they try to push everyone into a particular "style" or method of shooting stuff. T.
  19. So - I'm having my gallbladder removed in a couple of weeks, and decided to board the 2 more bouncy and silly of my 4 dogs. Mid last month, I rang a vet clinic that also does boarding - a clinic I've had many positive dealings with to date - and booked the 2 dogs in for a week at a quoted rate of $26.10/day each. Today I ring to make sure that all the dates are right and that all is good... to be told that since I made the booking, all boarding prices have gone up... to $37.95/day each! Ummm... not exactly happy Jan! So I ring another well known and really good boarding kennel and ask about their rates... $25/day each... sounds good until they refuse to take my dogs' C5 vaccinations as good enough. They insist on the nasal component for the kennel cough... which I was quoted by the vet at $57 each... getting a little peed off by this stage... as I'd already paid out to give the 2 dogs the C5 vaccination instead of their usual C3... grrr! So I ring the vet clinic/pound/boarding facility around the corner from my place... $21.50/day each, and they are happy to take the C5 vaccination certificate. Guess which place got my booking? T.
  20. Could be a goer while I'm recovering from gallbadder removal surgery in a couple of weeks... *grin* RAW files on my camera are around 3 to 4 times the filesize of JPG - so shooting RAW+JPG would work out to approximately 1/5th the number of photos fitting on my card - so around 400 photos on the 16GB card I currently have here... T.
  21. *points at the LOVELY persephone* You IS lovely! I've been pretty much in the JPG "camp" since forever, so all of the extra work involved with editing RAW images really doesn't appeal to me at all... especially when you look at how many photos I will take on a day out... errr! I'm hard pressed enough to go through the JPGs and pick my faves... lol! Then again, I look at some of the RAW editing jobs people are doing, and think "what if?"... I'd need a very large SD card if I were to shoot RAW+JPG to get the best of both worlds... a slow day for me is around 600 photos... and an average day will be around 1200 photos. I've peaked at 1900+ photos a couple of times... errr! T.
  22. Do either of you lovely people shoot in RAW? If so, what do you find are the biggest benefits of doing so? I only have the Canon Digital Photo Professional that came with my camera(s) that will edit RAW format... and I find it very confusing as to what I'm really supposed to do with it anyways... errr! I use it to maybe punch a little bit of contrast or sharpness into photos that are taken through glary glass and the like... apart from that, there's no other editing done at all. I downloaded Irfanview once, but that's even more confusing to work out... T.
  23. When my Lab girl was around the same age as yours, this is what she did to my Rottie/Pittie cross girl... The Lab meant business, and despite 2.5 cans of capsicum spray, batons, and boots, she wasn't going to stop until she was too exhausted to stop. The wounds to the 2 front legs were to the bone, as the Lab was shaking her by the front legs to try and disable her enough to go in for the kill. The only thing that stopped that actually happening was that I had a hold of the Lab's tail and had her back legs off the ground to stop her getting purchase enough to finish the job. This was 4 years ago now, and neither dog has run together since... and I don't take the Lab to dog parks any more either, purely because I know exactly what she is capable of if triggered to have a go. The wounds to the Lab were all defensive and none were significant enough to need any stitching - the poor Rottie/Pittie cross girl just doesn't have that level of aggression in her - not even to save her own life... *sigh* Note: the swelling on the Lab's face was due to the capsicum spray that got into the wounds, not due to their actual "severity"... T.
