  1. Well - the price hike boarding simply isn't getting my business now - so they are the ones losing on the deal really, aren't they? At 26.10 per day per dog for 8 nights, they were standing to make nearly $420 from me... now they aren't getting ANY money from me at all. I know both the owner of the clinic and the partner vet... funny how the girl found every excuse not to put either of them onto the phone when I asked for them by name. She told me that the owner was on holiday until Feb 24 and the partner was in consult for the rest of the day. Next time I see either of them I WILL mention this incident, and put in a complaint about how unprofessional this particular girl is... it won't be the first complaint they've had about her either. The upside is that the new arrangement will only be costing me $301 for the same 8 nights for 2 dogs... *grin* As for the other 2 dogs who will be staying at home - my gorgeous DOLer neighbour will feed them for me while I'm actually in the hospital, and I'll be able to manage them just fine after I come home as they are somewhat less bouncy and silly. I've also found boarding around the corner from home that is affordable (big plus), so maybe I'll be able to have a weekend away now and then... yay! I so want to go to see some of the other zoos with my camera, and was put off by how expensive boarding can be... not any more... I might check out Mogo Zoo first, as I have a friend who lives in Batemans Bay and is happy to put me up for a night or two... *grin* T.
  2. Perhaps the mother shouldn't have been bred is my immediate thought? Dominant alpha type dogs are not dog aggressive in the slightest unless challenged for leadership by another dominant dog wanting that role. Sounds more like the Lab has a low threshold to defence drive like her mum is where that came from. Whatever... The fact still remains that the OP wants some helpful advice on what to do next... t.
  3. What has got me confused? Ummm... everything... lol! I don't find the interface all that interactive/easy to use for a start. You wouldn't think that I'm an IT person at all when you see me muddling away with various types of software... give me a hardware issue, and I'm all over it, but software... nup! I used to play around with Paintshop Pro 9 - before Corel bought it and stuffed it up for v10... THAT had a nice interface and was really quite easy to come to grips with when I was dabbling in Fractal Art for a while a few years back. T.
  4. I wouldn't lose trust in the dog either... but I'd be a hell of a lot more alert for warning signs that she may not be having the great time at the park we think she's having... I won't take my Lab to a dog park now purely because I know exactly what level she can escalate to if her buttons are pressed "just so"... yet I trust her implicitly with my other 2 dogs and a myriad of foster puppies she has helped me raise to an adoptable state/age... T.
  5. this is all I use Is there a halfway readable manual for DPP Kirislin... I'm confused enough just using it to adjust contrast/sharpening... lol! T.
  6. The original vet clinic does not operate as a pound... but $37.95/day/each is a bit of a price hike from $26.10/day/each as originally quoted for 2 large dogs, don't you think? Were they going to tell me that on dropping them off in 2 weeks time hoping that I'd be stuck with the price hike and no option to arrange something else? It was only that I wanted to confirm all was set to go that I found out that they had decided to change the price on me. If I'd been told at the original time of booking that they were likely to up the prices like that AFTER a booking has been made, there's no chance they would have gotten the original booking. The private boarding facility and the other vet clinic both also operate a pound facility, but poundies and boarders don't mix... and they are clearly labelled on the kennels. I've seen both lots of kennels myself. No chance of a mix up... lol! I have an aversion to Hanrob after seeing the condition my neighbour's dog came back from them in - after only 1 weekend. He was never quite the same after that experience... Both of the dogs I am boarding are large - the Labrador is 26kgs, and the horse puppy is 28kgs - so 21.50 is a darned good price IMHO. I also know the staff at the place they are now booked into and they are awesome with ALL of their charges. The kennels aren't the Ritz, but the care does make up for that. T.
  7. So what's your preferred editing software, and how hard is it to learn how to use huga? I'm far from professional - I just like taking lots of nice pics of zoo animals/birds/dogs... *grin*... I basically whack the camera in the Sports preset, aim it at something I find interesting and take lots of pics... That said, I'd like to maybe learn a bit more of what my Canon 60D is actually capable of giving me, but have a complete aversion to doing courses where they try to push everyone into a particular "style" or method of shooting stuff. T.
  8. So - I'm having my gallbladder removed in a couple of weeks, and decided to board the 2 more bouncy and silly of my 4 dogs. Mid last month, I rang a vet clinic that also does boarding - a clinic I've had many positive dealings with to date - and booked the 2 dogs in for a week at a quoted rate of $26.10/day each. Today I ring to make sure that all the dates are right and that all is good... to be told that since I made the booking, all boarding prices have gone up... to $37.95/day each! Ummm... not exactly happy Jan! So I ring another well known and really good boarding kennel and ask about their rates... $25/day each... sounds good until they refuse to take my dogs' C5 vaccinations as good enough. They insist on the nasal component for the kennel cough... which I was quoted by the vet at $57 each... getting a little peed off by this stage... as I'd already paid out to give the 2 dogs the C5 vaccination instead of their usual C3... grrr! So I ring the vet clinic/pound/boarding facility around the corner from my place... $21.50/day each, and they are happy to take the C5 vaccination certificate. Guess which place got my booking? T.
  9. Could be a goer while I'm recovering from gallbadder removal surgery in a couple of weeks... *grin* RAW files on my camera are around 3 to 4 times the filesize of JPG - so shooting RAW+JPG would work out to approximately 1/5th the number of photos fitting on my card - so around 400 photos on the 16GB card I currently have here... T.
  10. *points at the LOVELY persephone* You IS lovely! I've been pretty much in the JPG "camp" since forever, so all of the extra work involved with editing RAW images really doesn't appeal to me at all... especially when you look at how many photos I will take on a day out... errr! I'm hard pressed enough to go through the JPGs and pick my faves... lol! Then again, I look at some of the RAW editing jobs people are doing, and think "what if?"... I'd need a very large SD card if I were to shoot RAW+JPG to get the best of both worlds... a slow day for me is around 600 photos... and an average day will be around 1200 photos. I've peaked at 1900+ photos a couple of times... errr! T.
  11. Do either of you lovely people shoot in RAW? If so, what do you find are the biggest benefits of doing so? I only have the Canon Digital Photo Professional that came with my camera(s) that will edit RAW format... and I find it very confusing as to what I'm really supposed to do with it anyways... errr! I use it to maybe punch a little bit of contrast or sharpness into photos that are taken through glary glass and the like... apart from that, there's no other editing done at all. I downloaded Irfanview once, but that's even more confusing to work out... T.
  12. When my Lab girl was around the same age as yours, this is what she did to my Rottie/Pittie cross girl... The Lab meant business, and despite 2.5 cans of capsicum spray, batons, and boots, she wasn't going to stop until she was too exhausted to stop. The wounds to the 2 front legs were to the bone, as the Lab was shaking her by the front legs to try and disable her enough to go in for the kill. The only thing that stopped that actually happening was that I had a hold of the Lab's tail and had her back legs off the ground to stop her getting purchase enough to finish the job. This was 4 years ago now, and neither dog has run together since... and I don't take the Lab to dog parks any more either, purely because I know exactly what she is capable of if triggered to have a go. The wounds to the Lab were all defensive and none were significant enough to need any stitching - the poor Rottie/Pittie cross girl just doesn't have that level of aggression in her - not even to save her own life... *sigh* Note: the swelling on the Lab's face was due to the capsicum spray that got into the wounds, not due to their actual "severity"... T.
  13. Harper was fine and dandy too... I wasn't overly concerned until I saw she started developing hives all along her back and ribs... on top of having the biggest Shar Pei meat mouth look ever. Her neck glands swelled up too, and I was worried about anaphalaxis kicking in... err! I spent the day calling her "fatty face" or "fat head" after the vet gave her the good stuff to stop the swelling progressing... I was a bit miffed that she'd messed up the day out I'd planned for myself, but she's a much higher priority than me having fun, don't you think? I must talk to the vet next time I'm there and see if he can give me a script for some form of antihistimine for her just in case she does something silly outside of vet hours... T.
  14. I'm thinking Baylee might have hooked up with my heart dog Woosie... they sound so similar... Woosie was 11 and some months when she went to the Bridge in 2004. Your Rotties so remind me of Woosie... T.
  15. Take a sample of the stool to the vet and ask for a fecal float to check for coccidia. Do NOT dose with anything unless you know excatly what you are dealing with... You've just started the dog on a different food - maybe that is part of the problem? Can you try giving her the other kibble you were originally using? T.
  16. Neko - bees will bite back you know... Harper learned that lesson a few months ago... and we dicovered that she's VERY allergic to bee stings. Luckily I had her to the vet within 30 mins of the sting and she was given a couple of nice shots to stop the progression of the reaction... but it still took over 7 hours for her face to stop looking like she was a Shar Pei cross... The vet advised that as this was her reaction to he very first bee sting, any consequent stings will need immediate attention... *sigh* T.
  17. The lady walking her little dog in Riverwood a while back was very impressed as I casually mentioned that her dog was a lovely little Tentie as I was giving it a cuddle (after asking permission of course)... The Lagotto that was waiting for it's owner's other half to arrive at the train station was one that made me think a bit harder before picking it's breed... *grin*... purely because we do have a population of "oodle" crosses here, and not many purebreeds at all... T.
  18. 4/52 - Crocodile feeding at Featherdale Wildlife Park (Taken with Canon 450D and Tamron 18-270mm lens - was giving it a trial run for old times sake - I think this turned out OK... would have been better with teh 60D and Canon 100-400mm lens, yes?) 25-01-2014-featherdale-450D 117 by tdierikx, on Flickr T.
  19. Since when did pet shops give prospective buyers "breeder" contact info? It says that the buyer viewed both parents, and that the breeder - upon being told of the Bichon in the mix - said she'd have charged extra for the dog if she'd known about the extras in the mix... WTF? ... and who goes to a pet shop looking for breeding stock? If the owner weren't so obviously serious about her "problem", I'd find this one of the funniest stories yet... *sigh* T.
  20. This is my Zeddy... she was 13 in this pic... She turned 14 in August and is still going strong... T.
  21. My Lab does it too... flat stare that you can't read what's going on behind them... If I move though, she's into mad tail thumping "mummy really loves me" mode... lol! T.
  22. Reads to me like they are wanting extra money for the pups... don't think they'll be offering a $250 job lot... *sigh* T.
  23. I'd be waiting for a good 2 weeks AFTER the symptoms have cleared up before taking your dog out anywhere... KC is still contagious for up to 2 weeks after the symptoms have cleared. T.
