Recommendation For Vet That Is Good With Bulldogs
tdierikx replied to samanthony23's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mortdale Vet Clinic used to have a couple of Bulldog breeders as clients... not so sure about that now they have been bought by Greencross. You could probably try Ben Acheson at Kogarah - he worked at Mortdale Vet Clinic for a while before going out on his own, and would have seen a number of Bulldogs in his time. He's also a really lovely man who truly cares about all animals. T. -
15 Week Old Koolie Pups

Depends what you call "expensive"... Factor in how much you would pay a vet to vaccinate, desex, thorough health check and fixing any little thing that came up on that check, microchip, then factor in feed, exercise, basic training (both house and obedience), etc, etc... what would you expect to pay for all that? Then factor in an entire litter of pups that require all of that, and numerous older dogs that may need even more that the above before they are available for adoption... I think that $500 for a happy, healthy, and well socialised pup of ANY breed or mix is quite reasonable, don't you? Crossbreed dogs are sold for much more than that on Gumtree - with NONE of the above things done already... now, that's expensive! T. -

Our First Ever Foster Dog - The Final Update
tdierikx replied to Michelleva's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Then maybe said "friend" should apply to adopt Bonnie then... or is that too much of a commitment for them to make? Ignore the "friend" and do what YOU feel is right for both you and for Bonnie... T. -
You are right of course grizabella... I am just so frustrated that the orange devils simply refuse to set themselves up somewhere I can get a decent photo of them... *sigh* Taronga went on about how awesome and expensive the Orangutan enclosure was when it first opened - and the Orangutans either find it too hot or too cold, or just rather lie around in their day room waiting for the keepers to bring them food at regular intervals. Maybe if they put some lights in the day room, at least we may be able to get a photo of something other than a blurred orangey lump surrounded by it's own droppings. They aren't precious about that I've noticed... T.

Damn! Tibbie pups are SO cute it hurts! T.

Mine don't bite people. That is an unforgivable sin in this household. 2 of them will fight with each other, so they just aren't allowed together - problem solved. None will instigate a fight with a strange dog, but if attacked may retaliate with suitable force to stop the attack. The oldest girl is more likley to wait for me to get the other dog off her actually - not so much the Labrador who WILL do damage to the attacking dog. The horse puppy is a sooky lala and is more likely to roll over and be submissive, but only small dogs have had a go at her to date, and she looks to me to stop them. Pickles makes this really bizarre strangled yappy barking when she's feeling threatened, so most other dogs tend to leave her alone - that, and the fact that she walks funny so they can't read her as well, seems to keep her from being attacked too. I'm sure she's giving him a hug in the last photo... *grin* T.

Well - the Orang exhibit at Taronga is pretty much one of the most disappointing of the whole Zoo... Considering that I go to Taronga EVERY Sunday - rain hail or shine - and have seen an Orang out only twice in 6 months, kinda says it all really. Quite a few times, they've put out a special feed, and neither Orang could be arsed to go out and eat it - they know they will still get fed anyways... I've yet to find a time when the viewing glass to the day room is NOT an opaque shade of glare either. Oh - and when they DO put out a "special feed" for the Orangs, it's also usually at a time when the glare on the viewing windows to the exhibit is kaka too... grrr! I don't want to have to press my face against slimy fingerprint-laden glass and shield from the glare with my own hands just to see an orang sitting in his own poop... I want to get nice photos showing happy orangs outside doing what they do best... even if that's peering out from under a blanket or the like... T.

Seriously... if I donate to a vet clinic account for a rescue, I'm just happy that it's paid off some of that account. It really doesn't matter if the occasional rescue person's own dog is seen on that account... that would be way overshadowed by the amount of rescues seen... T. -
Gorgeous! I wish Taronga would get their Orangutans out into their enclosure more often... they are always lazing around in the day room and it's bloody impossible to see them (let alone photograph them) due to the ridiculous sun glare on the glass. Personally, I'd kick the precious beasts out into their enclosure and shut the door to the day room... moping about in the dark day room all the time can't be healthy for them. What's the point of the purpose built enclosure if you don't put the animals in it? I've been going to Taronga every weekend since the end of July - and I've seen the male out in the enclosure TWICE - and then he only came out to eat the scatter feed (which is on at irregular times if at all), then went straight back inside the day room to sit in his own poop again. Never seen the female outside at all! T.
