Did again and only changed one criteria - went for large/giant breed... I think they decided that my size requireent was the size of the attitude in the dog... lol! T.

Hmmm... I said no exercise and medium/large dog, left alone for up to 40 hours a week... ... and I'm terrified of Pembroke Corgis... T.

Cuteness overload... lol! T. -
Come to think of it, I've got an insect bite of some sort on my hip... could have been the tick... it's a bit raised and itchy - much like the tick bites I used to get as a teen on the farm. I'm thinking this little fellow was a one-off. Have messaged the friend I went bushwalking with to check her animals asap, just in case... T.

Riverwood is not generally a tick area, and a quick check with a couple of vet clinics locally says that it still isn't... I'm thinking eggs came with the foster pups... or I brought it home with me from a bush walk I did in Manly on Sunday... which I think is the most likely scenario. Harper has had a reaction to the bite - typical - she is allergic to bees, so why not ticks? The area is raised up and about the size of a 50c piece - the tick was about 5mm long, and it didn't look like it had even started feeding on her blood yet. Have checked with my vet, and have been told to just keep an eye on it and see if it goes down on it's own. The tick has been fully removed intact, so no head or mouth parts still in Harper. She's not worried about the lump at all and is her normal self, so I'm not overly worried. Ghost is clear of ticks/fleas... and I'm going to dose both foxes with tick spot on asap anyways. No need to stress out Tom more than necessary for the possibility of a grass tick, they are pretty harmless really. T.

Ghost will be easy as he likes being handled... Tom might be a bit more problemmatic, as he's a biter. Their pen is on concrete, and I keep the surrounds clear of foliage, so hopefully they won't be affected... fingers crossed (and will count after handling Tom... lol!) It's wierd really, as I've never seen a tick in all the time I've lived here... we are not a known tick area by any stretch of the imagination. Most times, I only treat the dogs with flea stuff, not tick stuff. All I can think of is the recent foster pups may have had larval stage ticks that they shed, and they are now hatching and looking for hosts... we've just had a bit of rain and warm weather... T.

I just pulled a grass tick off Harper... wasn't there yesterday, and it wasn't engorged, but had managed to create a fair lump on Harper nonetheless. I've lived here since 1998, and never seen a tick... so this is new. She hasn't been out and about - neither have my other dogs. Immediate neighbours all round don't have dogs. My back yard grass is short due to not a lot of rain since it was mowed. Beats me where it has come from... not to mention that all dogs here have been flea and tick treated within the past 2 weeks. Obviously Fipronil (active ingredient in Frontline) not overly effective... *sigh* I've checked her all over, and there are no more... but this is concerning... Nothing on Trouble or Pickles. T.

I Know This Has Probably Been Done To Death...

Marketing for purebreds is not as bad as one would think... why else would people be insisting on "breed" names for their crosses? People like to say they have a particular "breed" of dog after all - evidenced by the vehemence with which they insist on calling them those silly crossed names... and then adding a price tag to match... T. -
Aww that would be great poochmad! Only problem is Goulburn is too much of a hike for us! I'm sure someone else closer by will snap them up though! ???? I'm sure there are a few rescues that would be happy to take up the offer of free crates... would you be amenable to donating them to rescue? T. Of course. Who's the rescue group in Goulburn? I'm sure a Sydney group could organise a pickup from Goulburn... Sydney Dingo Rescue is always looking for crates, and could probably get someone to pick up from you. They are in Menangle, so only about an hour drive... would you be able to PM me a phone number, and I can pass it on to them? T.

Kennel Owners And Dog Professionals: How Are You All Doing?
tdierikx replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've got lovely friends who are happy to come feed and play with Trouble and Pickles if I have to go away... but Harper is a different ballgame. Harper has a few issues, and she's a big girl (Dane cross) - so I prefer boarding kennels where she won't be running free with strange dogs, and she will be secure in a kennel with a roof (not that she will normally try to escape, but just in case her crazy kicks in). She is a fear barker, and that can be offputting - but she's not a biter, and will love you forever if you have treats and talk to her while working in her kennel. I have two different kennels that will respect Harper and her wierdness - and she loves staying at both, so all good there. Would be mighty upset if either had to close down... as there is no way on earth she'd be acceptable in a home stay environment. T. -

I have a foster at the moment who is carrying on like a pork chop in his crate... he's fine in there when it's dark, but as soon as there's any light whatsoever, he starts up... he just doesn't like being confined. He's been slowly destroying the plastic tray in the crate in his frustration when he's not let out when he wants to be. The other foster loves her crate and would be in it 24/7 if given the chance... *sigh* One of my own dogs just doesn't do crates at all - she destroyed 2 steel mesh crates before I gave up on the idea. Luckily she doesn't want to eat the house, so she is fine to be free when I'm asleep. T.

When we lived on a farm, one of the neighbours' GSD bitch had been got at by a Foxie... the pups were freakish... small bodies with huge heads, long legs at front, short at back, etc... neighbour put them in a hessian sack and drowned them in the dam. T.

She is so pretty! T.

We may be thinking about different kinds of naughty here I'm strictly only interested in the camera gear kind of naughty here... *grin* T.

Mum has been really good and apparently is feeding both, but until Sofia and Gomez came back, she was insisting that the other juvenile pick up the slack in helping care for the remaining little one... very confusing for them all really. Now Gomez and Sofia are back too, hopefully all will soon go back to the status quo with Gomez taking up his role as kiddy carrier... T.
-
Ummm... next time you decide to be naughty... want to direct it my way? *grin* T.
-
Gomez was alone for a while before they got him the female, so he should be fine in that regard... still going to be a waiting game to see how the stress of separation has affected the family unit. They are not out of the woods yet... T.

Nawww...sleepy girl... must have been a busy 2 weeks... T.

Gomez was found last night and is back at home... yay! T.
