  1. Agree with Espinay2 What sort of cheese is it?
  2. Fishpond is also showing out of stock.
  3. We have three boys. It is interesting watching them all trying to play, which doesn't always work. I have two English Setters and a GSD. The Setters play beautifully together but then the GSD tries to play too and kinda wrecks it. So I think that is a consequence of their personalities more than the number of dogs. I do believe that dogs recognise their breed and get on best with others from the same breed. It doesn't seem harder to walk three than two. And it is good being able to take one out (e.g. to the vet) and having two left to keep each other company.
  4. Wally was one of our fosters, and he was such a great character. DDD mentioned him in another thread. I thought I had lost all his photos in a computer crash, but stumbled over these ones today.
  5. Interesting - they won't board large dogs. http://www.lefay.com.au/boarding.htm
  6. We've used Barkshire a couple of times and been very happy with them.
  7. Am writing a toastmaster's speech on "how to groom your dog", and it's harder than I expected. Any tips and advice will be appreciated. DDD, just went looking for that photo and it may have fallen victim to a computer's hard drive failing
  8. Some time ago I stumbled over a webpage that had a recommendation for using conditioner as a de-tangling spray, by diluting conditioner and using it in a spray bottle. Now I can't find the page again. Can someone please help me out?
  9. Juice, who / where is your vet clinic - doesn't he do chiro?
  10. What about Panosteitis? Link here
  11. Just popping in with an update. Yes, brightstar123 the vet had checked his albumin levels as part of the original blood work-up. We put Veli back onto chicken and rice from Wednesday evening. He is staying on this until our next vet appointment which is Wednesday. Currently he is on Fenbendazole, Metronidazole and the Inner Health Plus Dairy Free probiotic with his food. The Fenbendazole finishes today. What I didn't realise is that the Z/D Ultra is grain-free.
  12. Mazda has had surgery twice when he ate something he shouldn't have - the incidents were a year apart. Petplan paid up both times with no fuss.
  13. Well, Veli was getting 6 cups of z/d ultra a day, and not putting any weight on. He probably hasn't lost much weight, but I feel like I was pouring food into him with no result. I don't remember the vet saying anything about albumin, will have to check this. No sign of vomiting. And his energy levels are fine. When I spoke to the vet this afternoon - before I'd read your post unfortunately - he was happy for me to put Veli back onto chicken and rice and then touch base with him on Monday with a progress report.
  14. persephone - not at this point, no. All his blood work was normal. OSoSwift - there have been a few studies published showing that protexin doesn't have effect on the gut so this vet clinic no longer recommends protexin. I will try the Inner Health as per Scottsmum's suggestion. And yes, after reading everyone's thoughts I decided to put him back on chicken and rice and see how that worked. So in summary: - he gets his Fenbendazole tomorrow - he stays on his Metronidazole until Wed and I have asked the vet if we should extend this or switch to another anti-biotic as per brightstar123's suggestion - he is getting the Inner Health Plus Dairy Free probiotic as per Scottsmum's suggestion - he will get chicken and rice for at least the next 4 days, and possibly longer
  15. Thanks for your post brightstar123 - really appreciate your response. And now I have options to discuss with my vet, which makes me feel much better about poor Veli. He is too thin. He was lean when he came from his breeder but I think he has lost more weight since then. He is weighing in at around 23.5 kg. (My other setter is too heavy at 30 kg.) His coat is fine and his stools don't stink. And he seems to generally be in good health - he is bright eyed and happy to be involved in normal activities. Off to pick up the Fenbendazole tomorrow. He still has another week of his current course of Metronidazole to go, so I'll ask the vet about extending it or swapping him to another one as per your suggestion.
  16. Nowstarin, is that the bug we sometimes get in our drinking water? Will ask the vet. Dogmad, there is only one Z/D on the Hills Science page. Will check the bag tonight to see if it says Ultra.
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. This is what I've done so far: Today I bought some Wellness Ocean and I'll gradually swap him over to this. and also got a bottle of this. It says one tablet for an adult, so I'm guessing one tablet for a 23 kg dog should be OK. Powerlegs, I'll hold onto your suggestion for round 2. It is difficult to feed bones in a multi-dog household, when one dog isn't supposed to have bones. It will take some time before we can see if these changes have a positive effect, so now I have to be patient.
  18. Yes he has been checked for pancreatitis. Funny you should mention parasites, JulesP. There is no evidence of worms and he is on Sentinel. But to make sure, the vet is ordering in another wormer - fenbendazole - because previously they've had dogs where the first sign of worms was the ultrasound. So now they worm as "standard practise" when dealing with this sort of issue. Airedaler, I should have put in my original post that I tried slippery elm on him when we first got him. But it didn't seem to make any difference and there was another poster on here who said it was bad to give slippery elm long term. (Although maybe we need to define what long term means?)
  19. Let me try and answer everyone's questions: We have tried adding yoghurt to his food for just over 3 weeks - made no difference. He gets his Z/D morning and night, and a chicken wing on a weekday morning. No other treats / food. It will be interesting to try chicken and rice for longer than a few days to see if it was just co-incidence that his tummy seemed to clear up. On the Z/D now, he will have a few OK days and then the loose poo starts up again. RuralPug, the breeder gave him whatever food was available from their pet shop so lots of different foods. Is this the sort of probiotic being suggested?
  20. Veli came to live with us at the beginning of March, when he was 13 months old. He is an English Setter. His breeder was selling him because he wasn't cutting it as a show dog. He hadn't seen a vet - there was no need. And because there was a pet shop in the family, he had been fed lots of different kinds of dry food. (Whatever was going out of date; had damaged packaging etc.) My other two dogs are on ProPlan so we started Veli on the same food. He developed a runny tummy, which we attributed to the change in environment/food. A few days on chicken and rice seemed to clear it so back on his usual food. But then another episode of runny tummy. So off to the vet we went. And this pattern has been repeated over and over again. And we haven't found a solution yet, and are getting more worried about Veli. For a while Metronidazole seemed to help. The vet thought it might be a food allergy so he suggested feeding Hills Science Z/D. Veli is now on his third bag with no improvement... Veli has had blood taken to test his liver and kidney function with no abnormal results. Apparently our next step is to have a ultra-sound which may lead to a biopsy. I'm hoping the DOL brains trust will have a suggestion for me?
  21. Stitch, can you please tell me what the soup mix is called? (If you could find it on their on-line store shop.coles.com.au/ that would be a real bonus!)
  22. In the section for training I would have liked a "don't use" or "n/a" option. For example, we don't ask my dog to sit because he has a bad knee. And he doesn't know stay either.
  23. Another cleaner I've had recommended is Kleo. My vet advised me to clean my English Setter's ears once a week as a preventative measure.
