  1. Which of the three breeds are most likely to cope with being on their own? Any distinction there? (And of course I voted for a GSD)
  2. Steve, are you drowning under squares?
  3. Coda my GSD has always been a problem eater. And he sometimes has bouts of diarrhoea that last for weeks with no apparent reason. His weight has dropped as low as 28kgs in the past. If there is any sort of fuss made about his food, he won't eat it. No good asking him to sit or doing ToT. He will just walk off when I release him. The only fresh meat he will eat is chicken. No lamb shanks, kangaroo tails, beef necks or anything like that. Doesn't particularly like dried liver treats. Won't eat pig ears. After a lot of trial and error he seems to be doing OK on ProPlan Performance. (But ProPlan Large Breed gives him the runs.) And, he gets about a 1/4 can of Natures Gift mixed into his food and enough water to make it quite sloshy. We have also stopped giving him any supplements like JointGuard too. But there are days when he just walks away from his food, or won't even bother to follow me outside to look at it.
  4. Sorry the poll only allows three questions so had to stop at 3 dogs Yes, two of my dogs are entire including my lovely girl. You could always answer hypothetically - what would you choose in that situation? I deliberately specified desexed (pet home) because the dynamics may be different between entire dogs, making things all too complicated for a poll with 3 questions.
  5. Let's have a poll on what sex of dog you would prefer in a pet home (therefore desexed.)
  6. The other day when I was out walking I met a lady who told me about a natural therapist in Green Valley who did massage (chiro?) as well. She told me the guy's name but by the time I had walked home I had forgotten it. For example, her dog had a pinched nerve in her neck and this guy did a wonderful job of helping her. She was recommended to him by Karen Hedberg. He seemed to use natural remedies as well as hands on therapy from what she was telling me. Anyone have any ideas about who this might be?
  7. We have a Dyson and I don't find it that great on the carpet. It is a DC08 with a turbine head. And my old Pullman does a much better job of pulling dog hair out the carpet. We have a project house so the carpet is cheap and really flat, if that makes sense. I also find the nozzle on the Dyson really irritating - too thick to get under and into gaps.
  8. Hi Jo-Ann Maybe give Maritime services a call and ask them?
  9. Any signs of this guy? Or are we still in the "lay low" period?
  10. Outlook is better than Outlook Express, once you get used to the difference. Hey, you pay for Outlook while Outlook Express was free. (It has since been replaced by Windows Mail.) Enjoy the learning curve (I think!)
  11. yes my GSD is comfy in a 42" so I would think a Newfie would like a bigger one.
  12. Where are you Azreal? Parklea Markets may be an option Most Petbarns carry crates http://www.petbarn.com.au/locations.php In Castle Hill these people seem to have reasonable prices http://www.petcare2000.com.au
  13. I started out with a Walky Dog but now have a Springer and I find the Springer better.
  14. Thought it was ok provided you asked Troy and had a good reason and made it very obvious you were the same person under both IDs?
  15. http://www.9wsyr.com/mostpopular/story/Dog...Zr2yRdg6Bw.cspx The article says: Romulus, Seneca County (WSYR-TV) - A dog breeder in the Seneca County Town of Romulus has admitted to federal inspectors that he killed more than 90 dogs through carbon monoxide poisoning. He trapped the animals in a whelping box and stuck an exhaust pipe inside. It appears that many of the animals at the kennel had a disease called Brucella, which would render them basically useless for breading without expensive antibiotics. According to a USDA report, David Yoder, owner of Black Diamond Acres, said he was trying to "de-populate" his kennel. The report describes Yoder's method of euthanizing the dogs in detail. "The licensee utilized a wood whelping box and fitted the opening with a metal door and a small hole that was attached to an exhaust pipe," the report reads. "The pipe was attached to a 3 horse power engine used around the farm. The engine was then turned on and a mixture of fumes from the exhaust of the vehicle with inadequate concentrations of gas was piped into the whelping box containing 5 or 6 dogs for mass euthanasia." The report also cites that the dogs' stress levels and discomfort were not monitored. Also, "the dogs were put into the whelping boxes and euthanized in view of the main kennel dogs." New York State law explicitly prohibits this method of euthanizing dogs, saying, "No person shall euthanize a dog or cat by gas omitted from an engine exhaust." By law, a licensed veterinarian needs to euthanize the dogs humanly if that's the choice of the breeder. Yoder is not a licensed veterinarian. The Seneca County Sheriff says his office is investigating the criminal aspect of this case, but has not yet decided to file charges. David Yoder left the building while he was putting the dogs down because the fumes were apparently giving him a headache. According to this report, he used a stethoscope to check for a heartbeat before burying the 78 dogs and 15 puppies. Most of the animals were small breeds like terriers and poodles. The USDA says the inspectors' findings have now launched a larger, full scale investigation into Black Diamond Acres. Depending on the outcome of that investigation, the breeder could be fined. Yoder voluntarily gave up his license following the inspection. Inspection records from the previous three years on this breeder also show major deficiencies in the care of animals. Most of those deficiencies required immediate corrections in order for the Black Diamond Acres to keep operating.
  16. Having trouble finding an earlier thread that talked about the Rrruff StayDry Baskets. Our dogs are allowed to sleep upstairs now, and someone pointed out these beds are good for stopping the dogs leaning on walls/curtains because of the back. So who has one and how are you finding it? Are they easy to clean? And what size would you need for a GSD?
  17. Oh my god!! What is this little guy really??? Apart from super cute?? Well the photo comes from this website http://www.petpoms.com
  18. If you don't struggle with increasing and decreasing it is easier to knit squares on the diagonal. Start with two stitches Next row - knit one, increase one into the second stitch and then knit to end Repeat until your side is required size Then decrease Knit one, knit two together and then knit to end Repeat until you have two stitches left Cast off That way you don't have to guess how many stitches you need.
  19. It wasn't a bull terrier... Are you saying the original report is incorrect?
