  1. A prong collar has two rings. One is round and one is D shaped. Can someone please remind me of the difference between the two?
  2. Sorry for your loss - may he enjoy chasing rabbits at the bridge now, and eating whatever he likes!
  3. My fussy GSD won't eat Sasha's Blend or Glyde. JointGuard seems to have the least smell. To be honest, I haven't seen any of them make much difference to him but it makes me feel better if I am at least trying things. For quite some time he was on Previcox but then he had a bout of diarrhoea that took nearly 6 weeks to clear up. We had to stop giving him his Previcox, and now it seems to upset his tummy even if he gets just 1/2 tablet.
  4. You could go sign his petition http://www.thepetitionsite.com/230/justice...nd-shot-6-times
  5. Today when I was driving home I saw a black staffy-type dog run onto the road and straight under a car. We both stopped. Poor dog was dead, I guess at least it was quick. No collar. An black entire male, staffy type. We door knocked the houses around and nobody recognised him. I suggested they take the body to the local vet and see if he had a chip. Sorry mate. RIP
  6. Nope, you summed it up pretty well. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find on Monday that they've been to the pound already. I'm hoping that by giving him a few questionnaires, they might stop and think.
  7. Interesting how many of us are getting similar results. Mine were Akita Anatolian Shepherd Dog Bernese Mountain Dog Black Russian Terrier Boxer
  8. A guy in our office has just bought a house. "Oh, we want a dog," he says "Can you tell me where to find one." "What sort of dog do you want" "About the size of a border collie, but with short hair" "What else? Is the dog coming inside or just outside? Who is going to walk it?" and I started asking him the regular questions "Um, we just want a regular dog." I know this pops up on here from time to time. Please help me find a couple of questionnaires that will give them an idea of what to think about, what is involved in owning a dog beyond bringing a dog home.
  9. Being a long time newfie owner I consider myself an expert on Drool . For a easy clean-up I use the Sugar soap spray. It works well on most surfaces and even on well dried drool :D I think this should be pinned somewhere under "sanity saving" tips. And how about we all pester Selleys to make the sugar soap wipes available here too?
  10. Makes you realise how much we take mobility for granted. I use Baulkham Hills Vet Hospital and while they take as long as needed on an appointment, and insurance is no drama, I don't know if their access needs your needs. The door opens outwards (towards you) and there is a step up into the building. Once you are inside everything is level. http://www.baulkhamhillsvet.com.au/
  11. We've used Greg a couple of times and been really really pleased with him: Barkshire Dog & Cat Boarding Kennels Dog Boarding Kennels - Berkshire Park, NSW (02) 4572 5598
  12. How about posting instructions and photos into this thread so it becomes a self-contained thread? (Often easier for searches in future.)
  13. My dog won't eat his food when I put Sasha's blend in it. The only one I can get him to tolerate is JointGuard. The cheapest I have found for the 750g size: http://www.greyhoundproductsdirect.com.au/....htm#JointGuard

    Tina

RIP Tina Your mum loved you very much and I'm sure you knew that as you crossed the bridge.
  15. This quote comes from the Chronic Puller! Help! thread. At first, pick times where he is not distracted and has nothing to pull towards. Short bursts, reinforce the good stuff. Build it up. Be absolutely consistent, never let pulling achieve anything for him, even in the harness. If he can pull a little bit and get a sniff at something, he'll keep doing it. If you identify that he wants to go over to something, let him - so long as it's on a loose leash. How do you let your dog sniff things while keeping him on a loose leash?
  16. My GSD injured his knee at a young age too, and has now had surgery twice to repair his cruciate. The only food additive I can get him to eat is Joint Guard, but I don't see much difference when he is on it or off it. He was on Previcox daily for ages, but then got a persistent bout of diarrhoea that took us over 4 weeks to settle down. As part of this the vet took him off the Previcox and he didn't seem to be any worse off it. I have the tablets and give him a half when he seems to be especially sore. He does get the injections, I think about every 6-8 months. My vet has never mentioned kidney damage when talking about these.
  17. MRB, been back through Steve's post looking for where he said this about a tool. the closest I can find is this: Is this what you meant? There is a big difference between fix and help IMHO. Or were you looking at another piece of his post that I've missed?
  18. Maybe BB needs to start another thread on the difference between managing and training. I don't think the OP said their dog was aggressive either?
  19. Yes I have, but generally by trainers that are not good at teaching the training concept. In fact, I have known some great trainers who can train a dog themselves extremely well, but struggle teaching someone else how to do it. Disagree with you there BB. I'm one owner who doesn't get it or can't put it together. And that is certainly not a reflection on the trainer that I've used as there are plenty of people (on this forum too) who have successfully trained with him. Re-educate as best you can...........keeping in mind if the owners had the answers and expertise, why are they hiring a trainer???. Surely they are open minded enough to listen to what a training professional has to say???. Sometimes life gets in the way. Sometimes all the "mind" in the world doesn't translate through into day to day life. Actually maybe I should start a new thread before we highjack this one any more. What shall we call - training tools for challenged owners?
  20. My two sleep in their crates at night, in the kitchen. Currently we have the Snooza D1000 beds as crate beds. While the D1000s have been awesome in terms of surviving multiple adolescent fosters, I am so over them in terms of washing the covers. What do other people have as crate beds? (especially if your dog is fond of distributing massive amounts of hair all over everything.)
  21. another vote for a vet visit - better safe than sorry!
  22. Nope, we don't like walking in the rain so we don't do it.
  23. Pockets, Coda sends ear rubs for Tyson & we hope he recovers quickly from his surgery.
