Was talking to my vet about this and he said that the best way was through the dog's throat, explaining this gave better results and had less side effects that doing it down the mouth. Has anyone heard similar? (My girl has been debarked through the mouth and her bark came back over 18 month period.)

ETA sorry I misquoted you - you said drive not aggression Can you please explain why you say high rank drive?
-
Since Steve (K9 Force) has already commented in this thread, let me pick up on another of your comments. You say your dog has rank aggression. What leads you to believe it is rank aggression and not say, fear aggression? They are both types of aggression but need to be treated / handled very differently.

Yes I have found the answer...... Stop worrying about it and resign yourself to having a dug up garden

My dogs used to sleep outside, mostly because that is what I was the most familiar with. But then one of our dogs turned out to be a bit of a serial barker. Anything moves in a 5 block radius, and she has to bark. Now everybody sleeps inside and the neighbours don't have to listen (to my dogs at least.) Ours have crates, thanks to DOL, but only one dog has to be "locked in" at night.

Have a read of this article, may give you some guidance as to what is happening with your pup. How old is he? http://www.k9force.net/index.html?row2col2=develop.html

Do You Treat Your Dogs Differently?
kamuzz replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes mine are treated differently. For example, Coda doesn't always sit for treats and because of his bad leg I don't enforce the sit. Jatz will sneak upstairs, take a flying leap onto our bed, lick me 'hello' and then charge off downstairs again. I believe we both know she is bending the rules. -
New Puppy Living With Older Dog & Other Questions
kamuzz replied to poodle proud's topic in Puppy Chat
Personally I'm paranoid about leaving dogs in the house when we are not there. What if the house caught fire? (silly, I know) Your boy could escape through the doggie door but what about the puppy? Maybe you need to see how they are together and then decide on the best course of action. Leaving the puppy in a pen would cut down on potential mischief, like chewing. Is the pen big enough to put some newspaper down in a spot for her? -
New Puppy Living With Older Dog & Other Questions

How about asking your breeder for some advice? The month is a guide. For example, our puppy was 4 months old when he came to us and he has been with the big dogs from the beginning. -

Hummmm with friends like that... -
Interesting Cockerlover. My GSD boy came home from his breeder on proplan puppy at around 8 months. He developed pano, and the vet (Karen Hedberg) said to take him off the proplan puppy because the protein is too high.

Hi, posting on behalf of a friend who is visiting his in-laws. They live in Girrawheen. I don't know Perth at all but he seems to think distance is not a problem. Could we please have a recommendation for a groomer who will clip a SWF? Apparently she really needs to be clipped off as she is suffering from the heat. (Its her first Christmas in Perth) This is a pic of Minky

Farewell my humans, Yet not farewell, Where I go you too shall dwell. I am gone before your face, A moment's time, a little space, When you come where I have stepped, You will wonder why you wept. ~author unknown

Now they have found the problem, I hope he is back to normal quickly without any weird pathology.

Hopefully your regular vet will have some ideas - could it be poisoning?

Blimey Inspector Rex, that sounds scary. Shame they don't make medic alert bracelets for dogs! Actually, why couldn't they? The disk could be clipped onto the pet's collar.....

Sounds like you are thinking of panosteitis.

haven't seen any of those at Burns. right now we have two "meaty" lamb tails lying in the garden that a certain pair of GSDs are ignoring. Burns is on the corner of Windsor and Garfield roads, the entrance is off Garfield. http://www.burnspetfoods.com.au/

Interesting topic! We have two GSDs, both bought as older puppies from their breeders. My boy came from his breeder at 9 months and had been a "house dog" with his breeder. He grew up with cats and birds, and is very well behaved around other dogs. He also knew useful things like sit, drop etc (In fact, he walked well on lead right from the start which makes me wonder if he ever got into the show ring but I'm not complaining) My girl came from her breeder at 15 months and she was a "kennel" dog. She is not well-behaved around other dogs, runs round in circles barking and tries to play too roughly. Her breeder had not spent a lot of time with her. Personally, I think she had been "ignored" for too long and this counts against her now.

How To Teach Drop From A Stand?
kamuzz replied to cassie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Doesn't this relate to Steve (K9 force) saying that training in drive is better than rewarding with food? Maybe we need another thread about approaches to rewards. -
Glad to hear he is getting better, and that they have accepted responsibility for their actions. What is the treatment for burns that are so severe?
