  1. Have you owned your dog since he was a puppy?
  2. That is what we are trying next - cortisone in case she has IBD. The vet believes that at her age (11 months) she is too young to have developed a food allergy that would affect just her gut i.e. if she did have a food allergy there would be other signs like gunky eyes, or itchy skin. While we are trialling different meds I have to keep her on the same food so we know that any change must be the result of her medication. She gets fed morning and night: - two cups of rice & carrot - two cups of Purina Sensitive Systems Formula which has salmon as the main ingredient. She is also having her TLI redone tomorrow after a 12 hr fasting period to double check that result.
  3. Poor Ruby. We still haven't got her tummy sorted out. she has just finished her latest round of medicine which included Metronidazole and Protexin (different vet who has typed labels!) He also did a TLI blood test to rule out a pancreatic disorder. She produces about four "cow pats" per day on average. The consistency varies from practically watery to porridge consistency, but not thick enough to be formed into stools. She also suffers from that lovely thing where they eat poo, although she will usually eat one of my other dogs' rather than her own.
  4. What if, just for now, you walked them one at a time? Would that help at all?
  5. This is Mark's website as I don't think he posts on DOL anymore.
  6. Hi Jen See you are in NSW - anywhere near Sydney? Our current foster dog Ruby is very fearful, around both people and dogs. She has been to see Steve and he gave us some positive tips to start her on the road to recovery. She is now doing better. She is fine around me and 98% fine around my OH. During a weekend outing she let a dog friendly person give her a treat, and relaxed enough to be patted. Ruby may always be a bit timid or "soft nerved" or whatever you call it but I don't think she is plain terrified all the time any more. As Mark S pointed out, that is no life for a dog.
  7. Any chance you could describe the hand signals?

    Be at peace Kiesha.
  9. Yes please .... to show the Government that dogs wearing them are not the unhappy, down-trodden, fearfully submissive dogs they seem to think they must be. Also to show the Government that the PPCollar is not a breed specific nor even necessarily size specific requirement. Anyone around my area offering to take pics for me please - yes mine are both German Shepherds but they can manage the waggy tail bit
  10. glad to hear things are going well - any time you get bored and need a challenge feel free to come and try one of mine
  11. Deelee - no chance of getting up to Steve? As Mark has pointed out, it could be a simple timing thing, and one session with a trainer could get you over the hurdle. And we are nearly at the end of the month, and you did say "next month"
  12. My dog is a bit of a fussy eater and joint guard seems to have no taste / smell so he will eat it.
  13. Interesting - I took my GSD to Steve (K9) and one of my comments was that she seemed totally disinterested in us. And surprise, surprise <where's the drum roll icon> Steve explained that as far as she was concerned, she was definitely top dog. We have baby gates to restrict the dogs to the tiled areas of the house. Jatz would jump over and come upstairs to visit. Here I though she was missing us, but she was probably wanted to see what the lower ranked pack members were up to without her supervision.
  14. Trying to update Ruby's medical notes. The vet prescribed her tablets for her upset tummy and I am trying to work out what they are called. Looks like: Neosulcan Any suggestions?
  15. Coda went through a phase of hating his crate too - whined to Steve at K9 about all the different things I had tried & he pointed out that Coda was doing an excellent job of crate training me. BP has it right by saying "ignore the dog". Steve had a hilarious answer in another crate training thread. Basically suggested picking the dog up (crate and all) and popping him into the laundry and closing the door firmly behind you. Oh to be able to pick up 30kg + of GSD and a crate If you try searching you should find plenty on this topic.
  16. Purina One do a sensitive stomach one based on salmon. But it probably wouldn't be low allergy enough for your dog. Only mentioning it because it has fish as the source of protein rather than meat.
  17. Hi Archie How old is your girl now? My girl certainly didn't put on more weight - I think it just depends if your dog slows down which they might do anyway as they move from being puppies to adults. Why are you keeping her away from the adult dog - are you worried they will play too roughly?
  18. Does it work to cure ears that are already fly-bitten or does it help prevent fly bit?
  19. Feels like the right time to revisit feeding frozen bones. Any news on your experiments? And how about feeding bigger bones frozen, like say lamb or beef necks?
  20. My dogs have a "snoofle stop" command that I use when I see something interesting coming up that I know they will want to sniff at. And then "let's go"when I think they have long enough.
  21. I think so - that's what my boy came home with after his cruciate op. And I think you have to be careful not to give anti-inflammatories on an empty tummy.
  22. Bigdogg where are you located? It may be worth giving Steve a call.
