Help With Introducing New Dog To Shepherd
kamuzz replied to Shepsrule's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Does Jasper consider you to be his human? Our ESS is much worse with fosters if I am at the other end of the leash. When OH has him, he is much better behaved. Maybe Jasper was upset that you were with another dog? Usually we have growls and grumbles for a few days and after that things settle down again. -

They will thank you for it eventually - it should mean nicer walks for everyone. -

Stopping Four Dogs From Pulling
kamuzz replied to luvabull's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have the same problem with my two GSDs pulling - keep hoping they'll stop when they are together because individually they are ok. But together - their brains seem to get lost on the breeze or something. -
That sounds interesting - anyone have more information?

Coda barks and carries on while he is playing, in this high pitched puppy voice. Drives us to distraction but its hard to get him to understand that I don't want him to stop playing, just to play quietly.

What about the "other" end? Or do we really need to only toilet train on piddles?
-
On just chicken wings? Or on anything chicken? Or any raw bones? You might have to try a few things to work out what doesn't suit this dog.

It is interesting to see the difference in style between vets. My regular vets will run every test under the sun, and they are expensive (surprise surprise). They wanted to X-Ray Coda to prove whether or not it was OCD. The breeder's vet had a totally different style. She was like - well it is probably pano and the cure for that is 6 weeks worth of antibiotics. How about we try that first and if that doesn't work, then we take X-Rays. He was better at 6 weeks so he stayed on the full course which was about 3 months. When I told this to my regular vet he started to spit chips & said she was just taking a guess and got lucky - no real basis for a diagnosis. All I know is that it saved my dog from having a GA and my pocket from the price of X-rays. Guess at the end of the day you have to trust your vet though.

What sort of dog is Ellie? My GSD had a limp when he was about 8 or 9 months old. Went to my regular vet who "suspected" OCD and wanted to take X-Rays to confirm. Fortunately I called Cordy and she told me to call my breeder instead of being an idiot and panicking. Breeder asked me to take the dog to the breeder's vet for a second opinion. Her vet diagnosed pano - all he needed was some antibiotics.

Wow that sounds like a lot of work. Luckily for us all we had to do was put comfy beds into the crates. Dogs put themselves to bed quite happily. We have these beds from Snooza and they are great for crates.

Why Does My Dog's Haircut Cost More Than Min

How about - your dog has a lot more hair than you do ? -
Sounds like a good suggestion to me!

Have to agree with this. We have just invested in a second crate after discovering that my GSD boy is crate trained but not house trained. By that I mean he will sleep in his crate all night without making a sound, but if we leave him outside the crate then there is a mess in the morning. So both my GSDs sleep in crates now. Fortunately our ESS has enough sense as there is NO way we could fit in a third crate. My dogs have always slept outside so this was new to me, and the crates have made it much easier. (Although the lounge did get a little chew - sorry Juice!)

What sort of dog do you have colouroflies?

My GSD back in South Africa had to have his tail amputated. He looked a little strange, but he didn't seem to miss his tail.

Where are you located? Found this on the GSD council - not sure if you know all this already.

Best Way To Teach Dogs To Stay Off The Couch?
kamuzz replied to morphjk's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Agree with others who have suggested the dogs need their own spot. We put the washing up baskets on the lounge when we are out of the room, to discourage them from hopping up. -
Would you mind posting where you have found Joint Guard at a cheaper price? I'm currently using Osteocare biscuits for Coda, who is the fussiest eater on the planet. You can check them out here Being in a biscuit form it is quite convenient, but I'm not sure it has as many ingredients as Joint Guard.

Oh I am so with you on that one. My dogs are supposed to sit while I clip their leads on. 5 minutes later I'm still fumbling around and the dog has given up sitting.....
