Rescue Dogs Owner Thinking Of Calling In Dogtech.
kamuzz replied to Kaz's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Has anyone asked Steve from k9 if he will help, seeing as they are out his way..... Maybe you could bribe him with home-made chocolate cake or something  -
RIP Kaizer ;) Hope there are plenty of rabbits for you to chase while you wait for your family to join you.

Tried my dogs on Nutro, Royal Canine and Eukanuba. They don't look any different to when they are eating Supercoat, which they seem to prefer....

How about a martingale? They have a little section of chain and give you just a bit more control plus they are difficult for a dog to back out of. If you take a look at the Black Dog page you can see pictures of their training collars. I know at our local dog club they sell training collars so you could turn up with your dog on a flat collar and then buy a training collar if you thought it necessary. My dog to weight ratio is like yours, so I know what you mean. For the ultimate in control - think power steering for dogs - check out prong collars on the K9 Force page. Steve is very helpful, and I have found my consults with him to be worth every cent. One of my dogs is fine on a flat collar and one has a prong. Different methods work for different combinations of dogs and their handlers so don't be afraid to try a few things until you find what works for the two of you.

Somebody had a thread about cargo barriers, or something similar. Dog trailers maybe? And in one of the replies there was a link to a place that made this stuff. They had great looking gates on their page.

There are a lot of views on that one. Do some google searching and decide for yourself

At least thanks to you he drifted off to sleep with a full tummy lying on a comfortable bed - and he knew that some one cared for him. RIP Doc

Reckon she would have fun with a chicken neck - probably keep her occupied for a bit

Oh my doG that must have been such a shock to you all. What was he being X-rayed for, if you don't mind me asking. Rainbow Bridge Sequel Oh, when we get to Heaven We hope that we will find The Souls that once we loved, Who left us all behind. Some left us at the right time, They left this world in peace. Others left too sudden, Without the chance to say Goodbye. They were gone before we had The chance to even cry. There's a special place for grownups, A special place for kids; Me...I'll be on the other side, The side called Rainbow Bridge. Across the dark green meadow, A top the hills I'll run, Where the colors from the Rainbow, Glitter from the sun. And there I'll find my sweetheart Running fast toward me. In my arms where she belongs For all eternity. --Jean McColgan--

Try this thread for help with crating - this topic comes up quite often. HTH

Maybe their play has to be supervised and like Kavik says, enforce time out. Be interested to read what others have to say as my GSD likes playing rough as well. That's fine when the other dog is a similar size but when I have a smaller foster it can be a bit worrying.

Maybe she went to the Bridge so there would be a friendly puppy dog nose to greet your Nan? RIP Lola

How To Care For Dog In Poor Condition
kamuzz replied to kamuzz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for that - good suggestions. No change this morning. Still no sign of interest in any food & food related noises like washing bowls etc that normally has them paying attention. She is drinking water. Morning poo patrol did not show up anything unusual so no clues there. -

No I'm not - she won't eat. Sort of ate her dinner last night. Licked the canned food off the biscuits and left them. Won't look at brekkie, even when I offered her straight canned food. Then she turned down a bone for morning tea. And at dinner she wouldn't even sniff her food, and wasn't interested in anything. Not even a chicken neck. Could this be a reaction to her vaccination? She had her C3 on Tuesday. -
Help! Out Of Control German Shepherd
kamuzz replied to Bullygirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep, breeder said "He was the alpha puppy, I always knew he would be full on." How does anyone go to work and run a family if they have to spend 24/7 with the dog! I know now that getting a German Shepherd was obviously a massive mistake for me as I obviously don't have enough time to spend with him. I was honestly of the belief that an hour and a half a day walking would be enough, along with the tid bits of trying to train him and the games during the day of ball etc. He also runs free all day. I didn't know they required more than that. I honestly don't know how any of the other GSD owners spend so much time with their dogs! Sounds like I need to be unemployed and have no family to do so! (I mean that in a nice way, no offence to anyone unemployed etc). Arrgh - there's the problem. You got an alpha puppy. That's not your fault - the breeder should have known better. My GSD came to us at 8 months from his breeder. We are at work all day, during the week. He gets walked 3 or 4 times a week, sleeps outside, and has another dog to play with plus usually a foster. And he is fine. But the breeder knew we needed a laid back GSD. Good luck on your journey! BTW I rehomed two of my dogs because we came to the conclusion it would be better for all concerned. Cordelia's helped me, we took our time finding the right homes and the dogs were definitely better off they had settled in their new homes. Don't feel bad thinking about this. It may be the best option for your boy. Maybe he'd love life as a police dog.....? -
Help! Out Of Control German Shepherd
kamuzz replied to Bullygirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Bullygirl Sounds like you and your dog have worked yourselves into an unpleasant situation for both of you. Maybe you need to have a long think about whether it would be best for everyone if your dog was rehomed. Sometimes this is the best alternative, although it is very hard to do. ( If you decide that you'll keep him then desexing certainly is a good idea. Steve from K9 Force offers phone consults and "distance education". Good luck. -
How To Care For Dog In Poor Condition

Casey went to the Baulkham Hills vet today. She weighs 26.5 kg  The vet checked her over, and couldn't find anything obviously wrong with her. She has been wormed, and will be wormed again in two weeks. Here's hoping we get some weight on her soon. -
Whereabouts in Sydney are you located?

How To Care For Dog In Poor Condition

They won't supply without a consulation and I'd much rather take her to Karen on Saturday. I'm just more confident with Karen rather than some vet I haven't met before. -

Thanks for the suggestions. She has just finished her dinner two nights in a row - 4 cups of SuperCoat (fed wet). This morning she had two cups for breakfast, and didn't quite finish it but have a feeling that tomorrow morning might be different. Can't manage three feeds a day with work unfortunately. Vet check on the agenda for Saturday, and will have to wait for then for a wormer. (Don't think I should give her Sentinel until she has been heart wormed tested?) Might try bathing her tomorrow morning before work if the weather is fine. Need more information on the fish oil please - what sort - how much - where's should I get it from Got the beginnings of a tail wag from her tonight when I came home, which is a good sign. -
Could I please have some hints and tips on how to care for this poor lass. She is so thin I'm surprised that her hip bones aren't poking through her skin. Her coat is horrid too - hard and dull. (would imagine this is just a sympton of her overall condition) She'll be getting a good bath as soon as I have a day off work. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c265/alw...ly/CCCROTTY.jpg http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/uploads/po...99019_thumb.jpg ETA this is her thread in Rescue
