Ring the vet straightaway, Panadol can be very dangerous if swallowed by dogs, hopefully you will be fine if you say 95% of the tablet is still there, but to be safe ring the vet now and watch to see if your dog starts behaving unusually, or vomiting etc Edit : Just saw your latest post, glad to know he will be fine. Good luck!

I'm going to go ahead and state the cliche ones, which I assume you've already thought of.. Kong filled with food / treats? If you freeze a Kong with his normal lunch in it, it can take him hours to empty it. Bones for him to chew on - deer antler is great and lasts for months..! My dog just lies in her bed and gnaws at it all day. Perhaps a treat ball with a small opening - altho if he's not supposed to move around much this may not be such a good idea.. I hope others will be able to give you some better ideas than I have. Good luck and sorry to hear about your boy!

Hahaha love it! Don't think there is a day that passes by where I don't stop mid-bite to pick out dog hair from my food.

Interesting replies so far! Though most of these I think applies to most dogs in general, like enjoying having their bellies / ears rubbed, sleeping on backs, etc. What do you mean by moon walk / trance? Surely you don't mean they dance like Micheal Jackson lol?? Hucklebutt??

A few years ago when Emma was undergoing hydrotherapy for her surgery, one of the things she had to do was walk on an underwater treadmill. As the water filled up the tank, she started lifting one leg up rather pointedly and the lady looking after us told me that it was a very Rottweiller thing to do in water. I had no idea! This has led me to wonder since then - are there any other breed specific quirks that exist? Not just for Rotties, but all other breeds as well. I had no idea about the Rottie leg-lifting in water.. I would love to know if there are any more!

My dog is more a people repellent rather than a people magnet. People tend to avoid us and give us a wide berth. On the other hand, I have been on a few occasions stopped by adorable elderly gentlemen to admire and coo over Emma. Quite often they claim they have had Rotties or other large breeds in their youth.
-
Whenever I get visibly upset : crying, shouting, raised voice etc, my Rottie will come over and just lick lick lick lick me everywhere and anywhere she can, non-stop. If I'm sick she will follow me around like velcro and sleep right by my side. It is amazing what dogs can sense - we owe so much to them! I hope you feel better soon.

I'll try... Are you a member of your local breed club (if there is one)? No If you are a member, what kinds of activities take place that you are involved in? N/A If you are not a member, why not? The locations the Rottweiler Club of Vic normally gather for activities is too far from me, plus my dog is not too good with other dogs, we'd end up looking like fools. She also doesn't have pedigree papers, so I'm not sure we would be permitted to join. What kinds of activities would you like to see more of in your local breed club? To be honest I'm not completely sure what breed clubs even do. Obvly I don't show, so besides that and obedience training etc, there's not much that appeals to me as a pet owner to join, I would like if they had herding or carting workshops - but they maybe already do, I just don't know about them. Is your breed club involved in Breed rescue? They do rehoming referrals as far as I am aware.

Nz Earthquake - 6.3 In Christchurch
silentchild replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hoping that everyone there is okay, keeping fingers crossed for the people in NZ! -
I agree with the dog coats and snuggly beds, however when I cover my dog with blankets I also tuck the blankets snugly into her collar so it becomes a cape somewhat and she will be unable to shake it off.

Lovely photos grumpette, I got some slobbery cuddles from Tank and had a nice chat with the lady who was handling him - although now in hindsight, that lady might have been you?? (unless you are a man?)
-
Yes, I was surprised at the number of breed stalls too - I was expecting a lot more breeds than the ones showcased. Rather disappointed there was no Dobermann stall or White Shepherd stall as I'm thinking of getting either one for my next dog and would've loved to chat to some breeders and meet the breeds. All the breeders that we did chat to however were simply lovely and very helpful. Also the friendly Lappies and Samoyeds completely stole my heart.

I went today as well - got to cuddle lots of lovely dogs, got heaps of free samples and watched some fun demos! My one regret is not buying more showbags as they were all going cheaper today.

What Did You Feed Your Dogs
silentchild replied to ShesaLikeableBiBear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
15 plus years ago I wouldn't been only 6 or 7 years old, but all my dogs back then only got Pedigree dry food and maybe some table scraps, sometimes a boiled chicken. Both lived to super long ages with no health problems. -
How terrible! People make me sick sometimes.
-
Yep, one of these: Road Refresher http://www.roadrefresher.com/ Supposed to stop the slobber too! I bought mine from here http://www.sprout.net.au/road_refresher.html OH my doG!! That looks like the answer to all my troubles!! Does it actually work?? Is it large enough for big dogs???
-
Ugh I use so many towels it's ridiculous... but the water still manages to get onto the floorboards underneath and then it leaves a horrid stain. I have to resort to moving the water bowl every few weeks so its in a new position frequently enough to avoid staining the floors. An absolute nightmare - I wish there was a better solution! ;)

Your Experience With Registered Breeders
silentchild replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do you mind if I ask why? Because people were incredibly rude. One even made a snide comment in regard to the walking stick I was using at the time. I was quite upset at the time, but now OH and I have a giggle about it. And like I said, the interactions I've had with Astrid's breeder have been great. When people ask me about purebred dogs, as they often do knowing I have one, I never tell them to go to shows. Maybe people are too focused or busy but I certainly didn't find it a good place for a newbie. Interesting, sorry to hear about your bad experience. :D Indeed the number one complain I hear about people from breeders is that most of them are 'snobby'.. when the reality is they are probably just too busy to have a chat, especially at shows. Personally I wouldn't recommend a newbie to go to a show to talk to a breeder, it's fine for looking at the beautiful dogs, but probably not if one is keen to have long chats with breeders. -
