Had a friend who lived in Fremantle. ( Now back in the UK). She sourced the 'local' honey. I wanted to use local honey as a compliment to the bee-keepers in Australia. During my searching I was horrified to find that a certain famous honey supplier mixes imported honey into its blends. As a consequence I only buy 'from the source'. Also make sure you know where the bees are sourcing the nectar! My friend's father who kept bees for many years is now suffering liver problems - every Spring he would put the bees out on Patersons Curse!

Put it on food or in some milk, you have milk in your tea, don't you?

OK, so 'we' have been on the Corn Silk tea for two weeks. Marles' hairy britches have been dry since the weekend with no discernible dribbling, so I would have to say it's working My vet is a total sceptic & disagrees, but who cares? :D

icebergblitz, can you cancel that order? You would be better off feeding whole chickens to a dog of that size, then the ratio of meat to bone is perfect. Stick a small piece of offal in the cavity & you have the perfect meal. Both of my dogs are desexed so I feed more like 2% but I am not obsessive about figures; some days I feed more in quantity than others, but it largely depends upon the individual & if they are a good doer or not. Beef brisket bones are excellent for putting weight on a dog & you should try to feed a wide variety of meats. I would be getting rid of the kibble, too. Don't be afraid to experiment.... & as I said earlier.... feed to looks, don't be obsessed with weighing the dog, you should be able to see & feel if condition is right. EFS!

That's interesting, Burkes. I wonder if that relates to carbohydrate levels (and keeping them down a bit). Just guessing and reflecting on snippets I've read here and there. I'm going to follow this up too! Burkes.... who are the people you would trust??

Not as simple as that juice, although I know what you are saying. Our LGA doesn't have a pound, we share Queanbeyan City Council pound but many residents of Palerang are not aware of that. The people who found him genuinely did not know the legal procedure & when I told them, there was no hesitation in sending the dog to the pound. In fact it is the vet who is at fault here, though he may have been found on the Easter long weekend, I can't remember now! It is likely that sometime in Snowy's life he has been rehomed & the new owner has failed to update the chip details, hence the disconnected number..... but, who is owners are & where they are is a complete mystery, again his owners may not know to look in Queanbeyan pound, although he has been postered in Bungendore.

This dog was found wandering at the showground in Bungendore by one of our client's daughters. They rang me about rehoming him as they had spent a week trying to trace his owners. I explained that he had to do his time in the pound or under DoC. I also sent a text to them with a link to Golden Retriever Rescue, however I don't know if they made contact.

Yes, kirty, if the question was to me....... I was looking for an alternative to stilboestrol :)

It's raining Akitas Another girl, 3yo, thankfully desexed, surrendered at Queanbeyan pound. Sounds like she has a nice temperament, so hopefully she will get adoption ETA Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread, valbitz - any good news for the Mildura dog?

Yes, I make approx half a tablespoon (it is very fibrous & difficult to measure so I pack it down in the measuring spoon well) to one cup of boiling water. Leave to steep & give 1 teaspoon of brew per 9kg of body weight twice per day. My girl is 24 kilos so I give her 3 tsps twice daily. She actually likes it & will lick it up. I make a cup in the morning which does both doses & chuck the rest out at night. It's cheap.... about $7 for a 50g box. I think most health shops would stock it.

Just an update on this: I have had my girl on Corn Silk (Zea mays) tea for a little over a week. Since she started on the tea, we haven't had any incidence of flooding and any incontinence has been confined to infrequent dribbling. I am being more vigilant about giving her the opportunity to urinate, she has always had an iron bladder up until now, so I am not sure if it is the tea contributing to the improvement or not However, I will keep the topic updated. If anyone else has used corn silk, whether succesfully or not, please share!

A short ad in my local rag: Free to good home 2 poodles, 1 male and 1 female. Call 042x xxxxxx Please PM me if anyone in ethical rescue is interested following this up and I will provide the number. The paper covers NSW Southern Tablelands. I have no further information as to whether they are desexed, a breeding pair or what age.

How strange - it must be Akita week There is another one in need impounded in Canberra (DAS) - looks like AMRAA are stepping up for this dog.

As the title states, has anyone tried corn silk for incontinence in an older spayed bitch? I stumbled over corn silk when looking for raspberry leaf. I think someone on here mentioned raspberry leaf for incontinence, however, I couldn't find the thread & in my (limited) experience raspberry leaf seems to be more for uterine complaints. I couldn't find any lengthy discussion on corn silk with brief googling, but thought the DOL brains trust might know. Also..... which form is best..... powder, capsule, tea? Yoohoo, Steve? :D
