  1. Hi I live in Nambour There is a good park called Petrie Park on the rivulet, unfortuately unfenced but one end has 3 sides which would suit the idea well. I have 2 whippets that I might be able to motivate, but more interested in agility. Thanks
  2. Hi I have a whippet with I think a grass allergy. Evening primrose oil shampoo - google it - available from "Groomers" in melb + prestige pets in Brish - has worked awesome. The lovely people at Groomers also suggested they had one dog whose skin struggled with salt water. This stuff smells great and settles the itch the next day plus no chemicals. You can also get a EPO supplement. Lovely smell to dog as well There is an awesome forum here from westie mum about this stuff and the success she and others have had. Can't talk enough about it. Also some success with people who have eczema and it improving with this shampoo.
  3. Hi At the Kawana Homemaker Centre - the pet shop there has a large range of Eagle Pack, they also don't sell kittens or pups I also recommend TLC pet food shop in Yandina they don't stock eagle pack but they have a fantastic range of fresh foods, and dried foods ie pigs ears, they do stock royal canin Also they stock a new one I have just discovered Vitalife by Petco - they make enduro and are Australian owned. The first ingrediant is Roo meal designed for dogs with allergies - the worlds fussiest whippets even eat it PM me I am in Nambour if you need any further info
  4. Hi all Since the orijen debarkle i have had huge trouble finding food that the worlds fussiest whippets will eat On the list incl - royal canin, EP holistic, supercoat, natural balance, evo At my local dog food place (they don't sell pets just fresh and a small selection of good dry foods) i found this product -- Vitalife -- by Pet Co who make Enduro etc in Australia - yeah go Aussie the first ingrediant is - roo meal, can't remember the others off the top of my head, currently at work -- if more detail is required I will post or PM me THEY ACTUALLY eat it. yeah They look great, the infamous poos are great Price 1.5kg for $10 BTW they get either mince or diced fresh meat with the kibble, and turkey necks, chicken wings, roo tails etc. not half spoilt little devils
  5. ususally grass the best stuff recommended by westie mum - big thread somewhere under health etc, with lots good info i have a whippy who gets a rash that weeps on her tum - Evening primrose oil (EPO) shampoo vet grade initially then normal grade - Smells good and is great if the humans have eczema on their hands, have been reports about it helping heaps Basically if she looks red I bath her and by the next morning she is a happier whippy Love the stuff - if you are in Melb then Groomers they also give great advice, there is an EPO supplement as well. or if in Bris then Prestige pets stock it. It works out cheap However initially you may have to wash her every 4 days and they do recommed blow drying, I don't always, if feeling ambitious then I will do the affected area
  6. I found a good trick for hot weather and dogs Ice cubes in drinking water - my pup snorkels and blows bubbles for them both of the whippies love them to lick Also have resorted to frozen chicken wings so they last longer and are cool on hot days. My whippes aren't very food orientated at all. Pigs ears or the strips keep the pup happy for ages, they love them
  7. Hi I have just found a new dog food that works for the worlds fussiest whippet and her allergies Vitalife by Petco - Australian company yeah Petco also make Enduro First ingredient is Roo meal, am at work so can't remember the others If you live on the Sunny coast you can get it in Yandina at TLC - ~ $10 for 1kg - goes a long way and good news the whippies eat it and look fantastic on it. No farting yeah Good luck
  8. Hi all while I was at the local fresh dog food place I found a product by Petco Pty Ltd Australia (they make enduro), its called Vitalife - hypoallergenic I checked the ingredients and the first ingredient is Roo meal, sorry can't remember the rest off hand. But they were good The fussy whippets love it and look good and of couse the ever famous poos are good. 1kg $10 - which isn't too bad since the orijen disaster have been having trouble so for all those out there in the same pile of S*#t. If you want more info on ingredients etc PM me and I will write them down. I bought it in Sunshine Coast at TLC in Yandina if anyone up here is interested
  9. know the recall feeling well Have trained our rescue that had no manners. Down the beach - no one near Let off lead and run down the beach with her leaving my partner behind, then he calls her in very excited voice and sometimes runs backwards to encourage her. When she gets back she gets lots of praise and play in the shallow surf. Great game If we feel like wearing her out I will call her back again in excited voice. We have practiced this lots and she loves it BTW is a whippet - so running is a great game Now we have a pup and the game is even more fun cause they race
  10. Mine are a bit spoilt Washed in the bath with warm water - same temp as a baby. Lucy loves it esp the towel off and the treaty later. She hangs out for the treat
  11. Wow so many itchy dogs - I feel your pain I have a 14 mo itchy whippet - I suspect grass Worlds best product recommended on DOL - can't find the posts somewhere a little while back EPO(evening primrose oil) shampoo - vet grade initially to settle things then normal Also available in supplement for diet Wash every 4 days until settled says to blow dry to really penetrate hair follicle - I cheat and just do her chest where she itches. Miraculous after 1 wash less redness and weaping. 2 washes almost gone Was not infavour of drugging the dog with steriod or antihistamines - I am a doctor and know the damage they do even the ones applied to the skin are absorbed heaps and heaps Nasty EPO is available from : Vic - www.groomersproducts.com.au - wonderful people with lots of great advice or Bris https://www.classicshowsupplies.com.au Can't say enough about how good this stuff really is - lots more testimonies on the other postings
  12. Has any one tried "My dog" - I know it is a nasty supermarket one and I can't find the ingrediants on the internet. The ocean one the fussy fussy whippet loves and it has lots of actual little fishies in there. Figuired it couldnt be too bad as a back up. Hmmm - what recipes do people use for their barf instead of patties, hard to find info easily
  13. Also forgot - Lucy seems to be allergic to Advantix - causes intense itching on the site I put it. So Sentinel + Capstar - and if feeling paranoid about ticks then half a frontline plus with her sister every 2 weeks
  14. Hi I can sympathise, I have a 14 mo whippet girl whose chest got all weepy and red raw, I think it was the grass she is allergic to. Because I am a doctor I didn't want to drug her or use prednisolone creams, which are suprisingly absorbed from the skin and cause heaps of probs. I was recommended Evening Primrose Shampoo from another wonderful DOL'er. I have the vet grade at the moment and she is itch free after just 2 washes, plus it smells wonderful. Also if you have eczema or other nasty skin conditions it really really helps. You can get it from: Groomers products "EPO" shampoo - in Melb (www.groomersproducts.com.au) - These people who own the store are wonderful and freely give info out over the phone to help Also recommend the EPO supplement to diet or https://www.classicshowsupplies.com.au - Brisbane (haven't tried them yet) This stuff you have to wash the dog roughly every 4 days and are ment to blow dry them - but I cheat slightly and just do her chest Hope this helps cause it has really helped our poor Lucy
  15. Royal Canin (Medium breed) - Lucy won't eat it, even when mixed with mince, she licks the mince off Supercoat - hates this even more Euk - wasn't fussed but not enthusiasic about it, she got fat Orijen - scoffed the lot and looked for more, no smellies, and good poopes Can't decide what now - grrrrrrrrrr
  16. This orijen thing is such a bugger Finally found a food my big whippet Lucy will eat - and they both look awesome at the moment. Lucy will lick around - Royal canin, euk, supercoat
  17. Hi I have had a good look around this area as I am from Nambour The best I found was in Caboolture - Fun dogs - their website says it all
  18. Leads and feathers - I feel your pain. I have a 12 mo female b/w whippet who can jump and scratch you on your face when let out of pen. I don't go to the pen straight away when home, don't look at them, don't speak to them. Just let them out. The little one 5mo whippet just runs around excitedly but the older one jumps crazily. Up to my face. I just usually turn around, don't speak, and walk off, for all my hard effort I get covered in scratches. I have tried having a lead on her and making her sit, but as soon as she is released she does it again. Little toad. She has now started doing it to complete strangers on the beach who are no where near us. Usually grab her collar while passing people, but not always able to catch her quick enough ARRRGGGGHHH Plus she tries to kill her sister 5mo, grr forever fighting and chasing her and grabbing her neck, no matter how many corrections we give her
  19. WOW what an awesome thread I have a 12 mo black and white whippet who has developed a red/itchy/raw/weepy chest mainly but also front paws and neck. We feel more miserable than I think she does, she doesn't itch a lot but it looks awful. I am a doctor and know far too much about steriods and would rather not use them, have tried some aloevera gel but hasn't changed much. Am currently blaming the grass cause she lays outside alot but could also blame the washing detergent as we have washed her bedding occasionally when fleas take over or littlel sister (5mo brindle particolour) has an accident. Thinking this stuff sounds good, might have to give it a go. OH wants to take her to the vet, I am not keen. She also suffers mucky eyes which may be her diet, RC + raw, in the process of swapping to raw/BARF
  20. Wow what an awesome thread. Have been reading up on the GREAT DOG FOOD DEBATE, and have decided that orijen may be the way to go. Have a 12 mo b/w whippet who was a rescue - she was initially on RC but would only eat it with chicken mince and even the pick out the kibble. Then OH accidentlly bought supercoat and she wouldn't have a bar of that even with mince,so it got donated to local rescue. So tried Euk but she is now FAT on that and had to feed heaps. So currently back on RC but not happy with her being slightly over weight. gets lots of exercise Then just to confuse the issue I added a 4.5 mo whippet into the pic. She was a bag of bones that could barely stand when she arrive unfortunately, could count every rib and had no energy. So with the same RC plus any canned food we would get- no idea what her diet was. She looks better but boy can she FART , definately clears a room and LANDMINE duty is a nightmare (ie poop scooping) b/c of the quantity and STINK. Still not completely happy with her. Also the older one has developed a really nasty rash on her chest, and think it is from a grass allergy but not sure. So think orijen is the way to go, so over spending money on kibble plus mince plus chicken wings/necks. Would just like to feed kibble with necks/wings a few times a week. Think the Burpengary shop is a goer for me, if I can get day off work. They seem to think 13.5 hr days are sustainable, I beg to differ
  21. this is a great thread, loving dolforums I have a 12mo female whippet who had red slightly red rash on her chest and elbows, I think it may be from her lying the the grass on the lawn. I am a doctor but am not sure what to do about it. It doesn't worry her at all but it doesn't look nice. Any remedies
  22. Hi all Just perusing this thread, all very interesting. I have done some extensive martingale collar research on the net and Australia is definately hard to get them. I love funky colours. I have found this American site who are interested in letting me sell their collars in Australia, just wondering what sort of interest there is around and if it would be useful for people The website is; www.shoredog.com - they have some funky designs. I wouldn't mind getting some martingales, their shore walkers and some hemp ones for burning round the beach The inspiration came from my whippet Lucy who thinks she is Houdini Anita PS how do you post photos
