  1. Olympus - in the slobbery dog advertisement mju 6100 is waterproof to 2m however, the mju 8000 is waterproof to 10m I have one of the original ones with 10m waterproofness. I paid about $400 back then I took it underwater when snorkelling in the whitsunday island and off cairns - got some pretty good pics Takes reasonable pic's in day to day Really love this little camera - light, small, shockproof to 2m Very easy to use Good viewer at the back
  2. she's all yours - little toad conned me last night. Barked so I went out to shut her up and they came in - thinking it was early in the morning I let them sleep with us Next time I look at the clock it is actually only 12:30 - I got duped Jaboticaba - yummmmm I will have them the wine by murdering point winery near cairns is to die for, as is the black sapoti port
  3. Where I get my pet mince they process it all onsite and has no preservatives. They get the carcasses or left overs from the butcher they do all the chopping and mincing on site. The lady I deal with is adamant about preservatives - she won't sell pet meat with it in it The problem with an elimination diet is I don't know what to do What ingrediants do I use: - she has had contact with tuna, ocean fish, kangaroo, beef, lamb, assume pork, chicken - I am not sure I can access rabbit but would like to use it or is it ok to just try the fish - she has only had it once. What other ingrediant do I use
  4. Any recommendations on a juicer MUST be easy to clean and use with a large shute BTW - they LOVE your treaties - especially the perfect pooch The nervous pup has awesome focus and can train beautifully off lead as long as we are not at obedience school , but will now take treats at school YEAH
  5. I live on the Sunshine Coast I can get the meat/mince already done and cut up no problems there is a place down the road that only sells fresh meat for pet food, have been considering buying a juicer. Just trying to work out the logistics of a juicer + meat adn how to package it for freezing at least a week ahead
  6. Arrrggghhh we fell off the first page. But anyway - just got Dr B's books Haven't put feed your dog a bone down - it is awesome so many questions answered. Also reading a book about fearful dogs by Wilde who worked with wolves - it has been very insightful and a thoroughly recommended read from wags bookstore in Aus - she mentions that corn is another evil BAH - OH reckons we are running out of things to feed her Was feeding Frosty Paws thinking it was cheap and ok - $5 for 8 patties However it has corn in it so swapped to Dr B's and it worksout the same price per patty - ARRRRGGGHHH Her allergies are dreadful and she is grumpy and aggressive because of it - so frustrated No only getting Dr B's and raw bones Suspect there is a meat component Have an appointment with a dermatologist in October - some response from Polaramine and have got some cortisone cream topical 0.05% At wit's end
  7. My coffee table surfing whippet eats guava's - we have a tree in the backyard and she loves eating the sweet pink flesh out of them
  8. Sentinel spectrum does not kill fleas only sterilises the eggs so they don't hatch. It takes a while to take hold but works well in our house. I use capstar when i see a nasty flea - fast flea killing tablet - kills most fleas in 24hrs, and works within 30 mins - it is sometimes funny watching the suckers just fall off dead I can't use spot-ons they aggravate my sensitive skinned whippet. I am planning to try frontline spray this tick season - will also kill fleas
  9. A couple of suggestions that I like Vitalife by Petco - http://www.masterkarn.net/enduro_hypo_and_snax.html Based on roo only - about $10 for 1.5 kg - I could feed 2 whippets for about a month and a bit off this and they like it and did well A cheaper option again and easier to access: Bonnie Complete - dogs love it and do very well - made by purina approx price 20kg $40 about ~$2 per kg Ground whole wheat, kangaroo meat, vegetable protein, ground whole corn, beef tallow, canola seed, poultry by-product meal, fish meal, natural antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals. Also have a working dog formula Note: I no longer use any of these b/c of allergy issues we suspect grains played a part but still would use them on my non-allergic whippet at any time
  10. I love this topic - i come and check it so often I have a dog with allergy issues and flaky skin - she is a 3 yo whippet - mainly her tummy is affected. Thus far I have eliminated grain from her diet, and saw a little improvement. I am also giving her an antihistamine daily and it does seem to help her with the itch. Just wondering what the dose for zinc is Supplements at the moment - Megaderm, and vitaskin by Greenpet for my itchy girl When the megaderm is done I plan to switch to fish oil cap's + EPO
  11. BIG ;) For Happy Paws Treats - my fussy whippets love them We have really excelled at obedience thanks to the treaties They love all of them - we are currently trying rabbit and roast chicken plus a big bag of perfect pooch Can't speech highly enough of them especially for dogs that are a bit fussy. Mine greet the treats at the post box. No preservatives - good for an atopic dog of mine Service is fantastic
  12. just a question regarding salmon vs salmon heads - at my local pet food supplier they have salmon fillets for about 3 dollars a kg are they as good as heads be careful with bulls testicles - the vets inject the testicle with local anaesthetic when they remove them when the animal is alive, however if while dead then local is probably not needed i got casserole from pet food place the other day - kidney, liver, beef - dogs went mad for it, but you should have seen the look on one of my whippets faces when i put a couple of sardines on the side. lucy big guts - scoffs it down and loves the tomato sauce bella delicate eating habits - eats and sniffs completely around the sardines incl the tomato sauce and left them for lucy some days in my house hold you would think i was poisoning her she is delicate in taking food - and sometimes doesn't like to take it at all have swapped over to artemis grain-free - they love it still miss orijen for burnt dead grass from wee - is it carrots in the diet that helps
  13. one other question; i think i will probably need to keep some kibble b/c of work commitments can't decide - artemis grain free v's proplan salmon and rice
  14. thanks FTPO lucy is a whippie - having stopped the VAN has made a fair difference, she seems to respond to the polaramine - though i am not sure how much of a response i am ment to get for it to be positive but she does scratch less. OH didn't give her her dose last night and she was very uncomfortable this morning when i got home from my 13 hr night shift. i have been giving omega-derm but when this bottle is done am contemplating the salmon oil, epo, vit e combination i found that you were involved in from another thread - does this help you what is your opinon of the allergy testing - any benefit my keyboard 'shift' key has stopped working hence the lack of capitals cause i can't be bothered using the caps lock all the time OOOOHHHH - i noticed you live in Brisvegas - I am up on the Sunshine coast
  15. FTPO - i have read many threads about Benson's atopy, how is it going and how are you managing it currently Lucy is also atopic and we are seriously struggling I am contemplating going raw after reading your post - sounds awesome Though back up biccies may be needed when life as a doc gets mad

  17. OHHHHH thankyou for setting up this topic - I am loving it Very tempted to switch to BARF I have 2 whippies - Bella 14 mths (mischief) and Lucy almost 3 with nasty contact allergy on her tummy I have yet to conqueor after 15mths - very frustrating. Currently the spoilt devils get either VAN or an allergy kibble called Vitalife by Petco (they also make enduro) - first ingrediant is roo meal, and it only contains roo, no wheat , cant remember the other ingrediants but very good from memory. If anyone wants them I will track them down through my pet food place Then they get diced roo usually with omegaderm Just instituted yoghurt tonight and by the look on Bellas face you would have thought I was poisoning her - very funny to watch - sniff food, look at me, look at food, look at me then tried food and decided it was ok. Also just given them some "ocean fish" - can get it for about $3 a kg at pet food store - they seem to like it Sometimes I get roo/heart or beef/heart/kidney - great place, lovely people For treaties - bones most days - lamb ribs/ chicken wings / beef ribs / veal shanks (loved them) / roo tail / turkey necks Don't bother with chicken necks as it is crunch crunch swallow Went to the vet today for lucy b/c of her skin - so frustrated i currently am bathing her 2x/week with EPO vet grade + EPO supplement Am resorting to try Polaramine - vet said it might make her sleepy - nup no such luck thanks everyone
  18. as a doctor i find tramal a very difficult drug to use and very rarely prescribe it for anyone not to mention it acts on similar receptors to a sort of antidepressants such as zoloft - can cause a nasty thing called seratonin syndrome which in extremes can be fatal but very rarely i find in humans it either has dreadful side effects or works well - more likely dreadful side effects personally instead of going for mild opiates i would go for very low dose opiates at least then you have a more reliable effect rather than tramal same with codiene - such as panadiene forte - really just constipates people and has no pain relieving effect - pain teams very rarely give panadiene forte now days more likely to use paracetamol plus something like ibuprofen or similar drug - can give them at the same time b/c they are completely different drugs and they work really really well. pity we can't use panadol in dogs but this waffling is just a doctors opinion
  19. WE PASSED lucy and bella passed there level 2 obedience last night - very proud as i have been working really hard with them almost every day, so next week we move up to level 3 have big doubts about bella though - last night after a couple of really good runs and making good progress at home she turned in to quivering non-compliant mess - thankfully they still passed us because we made awesome progress last week she wouldn't drop, not interested in food, just wanted to get back to lucy - trying very had to convince her i am pack leader not lucy but she disagrees - monster the clicker training is the best thing for her as are the paws awhile treats - even they didn't work last night - she shut down tempted to keep her back in class 2 for another 4 weeks with the others to continue her confidence and keep them separated during lessons but still proud of them any suggestions how to increase the confidence of a shy insecure dog
  20. i got mine with a head attachment with spikes that brush the coat while wetting it - a god send compared to the bucket i got mine from big w but also saw them in k mart this weekend
  21. grass contact allergy is the bane of my life - though we get quite a good result with Evening Primrose Oil vet grade shampoo from groomers, have also been giving the food supplement. at its worst recently it was weeping and oozing and red all over her tummy a week of washing has seen the redness settling and the itching settling, by no means 100 per cent but improved am about to try paw paw ointment to help moisturise the area at night
  22. i have been using van and the worlds fussiest whippets love it it seems to help with my older whippets allergies and the garlic seems to keep the fleas at bay - a recent observation poos are great too
