You have to have an Associate registered dog in your name for that too though. Ie have to put in application for both dog and human at the same time ;) Yes but I was answering the part where you said you can't become a member until you register your pedigree dog, and I was just saying that you could still become a member (but an associate member) when you register your associate dog :p I think I'm just confuzzled
-
In WA, Ruby was placed in my name as a pup and it appeared on her CAWA registration papers as me as the registered owner, even had a membership number against my name. I was not a financial member. Then when I did formally join a couple of years later, that number "reserved" for me became mine.

Can you do that? In WA you can't become a member (of DogsWest) until you are the owner of a registered dog! Well except for handling memberships and I guess Junior memberships anyway. Or Associate memberships if you have an non pedigree dog.

The cold and dark sucks, but my biggest motivation killer is training by myself Think I need to advertise for a dedicated UD training partner or else I am never going to pull my finger out!! I've got basics on all UD exercises (except directed jumping, but we did start the send to the box part ages ago, really need to add distance), and just really need to finetune the others big time! Only getting by on the basics isn't going to cut it for the trial ring Girls were doing well on SD using the same scented article. Pulled out a brand new set of metals and they went WOAH!! Nup, don't know this game anymore So I worked through the beginning stages with Millie again and she got it. Got to do the same for Ruby. Directed retrieve is coming along, but the full distance sometimes causes them to deviate to glove #2 at the last second if sending for 1 or 3 Millie's signals heelwork has been put into practice for a while now. She is so sensitive to signals that it hasn't been hard at all with her. Ruby on the other hand, will need exaggerated signals for a while longer as she's so much better at verbals. Nothing like kids being complete opposites in signals vs verbals to test you!!

At this stage, another Lab A yellow boy. And not for another 2 years at the minimum.

I have to agree. As far as dog food goes, BH smells nice! I bought my first 20kg bag a couple of weeks ago and the girls love it. I also won 7kg of it over the weekend of obedience trials which is awesome because I have finally won something that I can feed my dogs! Last bag of food I won was Advance small breed, so I gave it to my parents for the Maltese

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

I've resisted coats and PJ's for my Labs because I'd be the laughing stock... but my girls don't have much coat so I think I am going to make them some jammies Or at least a coat for winter training nights. The cold isn't doing much for Ruby's sore leg so I think she needs 2 pairs of leg warmers -
We want photos!!!!! Gosh I so want my new puppy. I have his name picked out and everything, it's all so exciting but dammit, I must wait

Oh how lucky are you, TSD!! Snooooow!! Snow is a novelty for me. It took 27 years for me to see my first snow, and I was so chuffed that it actually snowed too (as opposed to it just being on the ground already). My friends took me to the snow for my birthday a few years ago Look at Em all rugged up, the jacket looks bigger than her -
Love it! I went from teary eyed at the sad puppy in the rain to laughing at the end, all in the space of 47 seconds

Well done to everyone on their latest brags!! Sounds like everyone has been doing extraordinarily well! And 23 runs Not sure who would get tired first, me or the dogs!
-
I have a few brags from this morning and this afternoon My morning brag is Millie won CCD in the Obedience Challenge (which is the top 10 scoring dogs from each class from the previous year compete here), and blow me down, she scored a perfect 100 Millie and Ruby were also in Novice at the Challenge. Ruby got a pass, but I'd rather not talk about Millie's Novice round! Let's just say I pulled her out before I could find out if it would get better. My nerves once again failed us, so I told myself to take a chill pill, told Millie we're going to go out there and have some fun, and we did. She came out firing for her CCD round as a result :D My afternoon brag is that both my girls got their second CDX pass Ruby came 3rd with 189 and Millie came 2nd with 191 :D They both need 1 more pass each and then it's onto UD (might have to actually start training more consistently for that one! ) So my girls did me proud today! I think I'll stick around and trial for another day, after almost throwing in the towel after Millie's woeful attempt at Novice this morning

No problemo! -
Omigollygosh RV she is ADORABLE!!!!
-
What a good boy Scoota! :D Just knowing he is able to be out there with you again I'm sure is enough for smiles all round! I'm certainly appreciating being back out with Ruby, when I feared the worst after her injury
-
Thanks RV, but I think puppy photos trumps everything anyway! Please post them :D My morning brag was Millie's CCD win, and Ruby passed her Novice round (after it took her ages to get a Novice pass when she actually was in novice last year!) Let's not talk about Millie's Novice round. Let's just say I pulled her out before I could find out if it would get better. My nerves once again failed us, so I told myself to take a chill pill, told Millie we're going to go out there and have some fun, and we did. She came out firing for her CCD round :D Anyways! Advice Needed From Those With Puppy Bars
RubyStar replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
The picture is so deceiving. It's more that Millie would encroach on Ruby's space! And Millie sitting so nicely, that's a very VERY rare event!! The doors don't touch the car, the hinges stop before it does. I'm going to ask the guy if he can move the hinges to more like superminty's photo on page 1 so the doors don't stick out on the bottom where they are a danger, to up the top -
In. Viewing photos of another similar setup, I think this issue could possibly be rectified by just switching the hinges over to the bottom angle, so the bit that sticks out will be up top. Hopefully he can change them over Example of what I mean shown in superminty's setup:

Maybe in a few years I will try tracking. But then again in a few years, I hope to have my new dog so even less time for stuff I need to find someone who wouldn't mind taking Millie to tracking for me while I concentrate on retrieving with Ruby - any takers?
-
huski, I think Millie is actually a Lab X Beagle. She can be working beautifully, but if she cops a whiff of a scent, I have lost her and it is terribly hard to get her back once she starts following her nose along the ground. Don't think I could ever train a Beagle, hats off to you!!! And I know there is a bit more to tracking than just being good at smelling the ground But if I had the time I think Millie would have a great chance at doing well at it, she tracks backwards and forwards when she smells something.

Advice Needed From Those With Puppy Bars
RubyStar replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Here are pictures of my car barrier thingo, minus the divider. That will come next week. The door angles out a bit so I am a bit worried of them hitting their heads But it couldn't be helped because of the shape of my car. He couldn't find the locks like on the puppy bars, but these work ok for me! I think they are window locks. So I can open and close the doors as I need to, then can lock them up too -
Yep! The only part that worries me as I said is the door bending out and the dogs hitting themselves jumping in, but it couldn't be helped because of the shape of my car. Apart from that, it's gonna make life a helluva lot easier once I get the divider in and a cargo net barrier up! Millie jumped into my front seat today when I took Ruby out for a little bit of training on the lake
