Why? Are you going to do them naked? I'm eating my lunch here!!

So as long as they hit the right entry, they can pop right out again, you run straight to the next obstacle and you're not DQ'd?

How To Get Dog Working With Enthusiasm In The Ring
RubyStar replied to LabRat32's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think a few people in this thread would be interested if you're keen to share? -
It will be if I can get them both out of AD - because AD and JDX clash!!! So all 4 runs will be over and done with in 10 minutes. I like them a bit more spread out than that Oh, yes - that would be a bit tough. Just as well you're young And yep, her leg seems much better And I am in no rush to get her (or Millie) out of JDX. Masters = Looks for the chicken emoticon It's all good fun :D I'm sure it would be! But my handling and teaching skills are just not up to scratch, and therefore, their training isn't up to scratch. Millie would go great guns with the right handler. She has the potential to be fast, but her handler slows her down. If I wasn't so busy with my first two loves, obedience and retrieving, I'd make the effort to get my agility handling up to scratch and learn more. It's a case of I don't really know what I'm doing and until I do, it ain't gonna get any better! It would be a great feeling to handle Millie around a course with ease, She's such a loon and has a hoot doing it (so much so that she ignores me to do her own course ). I just need more hours in the day and days in the week!

It is lovely at this time of the year. The water is still quite low but flowing at least. I've never been, would like to though. Think we need a DOL meet there It's pretty rocky and hilly. Sure you're up for it. :p What are you trying to say? That I can't handle rocks and hills?
-
Yes I heard a rumour too, but not sure if it's happening. I want in if it does happen!!

RallyValley handled Ruby in Open Jumping yesterday and they both did well! In the morning trial I made the mistake of sitting outside the ring to film them. Ruby found it hard to line up at the start, her body kept twisting around to my direction and was distracted. RV got her attention back and with a nice start line stay they took off and got half way through before Ruby came running out of the ring straight to me Nice to know my girl loves me that much (sometimes I do wonder!!!) The afternoon trial went much better. I didn't go near the ring and watched from a distance. They lined up beautifully at the start and RV handled her very nicely around the course and managed to finish! She even weaved for RV so it was great for both of them Such a shame I don't have it filmed, but I was standing on the opposite side of that ring and the one next to it, waiting to go in with Millie. Well done RV!!

Lots of brags here this weekend! Well done to everyone! Minor brag. Millie got her JD title yesterday and Ruby got her 2nd JDX pass

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RubyStar replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
They have to be camo type? Not the standard white or black ones? Perhaps I need to go and read the rules again! Well done on your successes! And hope the poor sickly ones feel better soon!! -
Congrats!!! I hope there is video!! :D Congrats to bedazzled on UDX pass number 2! And to OSS and Lewis on their ET title and 2nd CCD pass!! Ruby got her 2nd JDX leg yesterday with 3rd place, and Millie got her final JD leg and 3rd place also for her JD title! So now both my girls have their CD and JD titles and are both also 1 pass each off their CDX and AD titles! Nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry

Poor Zola! Similar thing happened to Ruby, home from the vet after vaccs as a puppy and we get out of the car, she sticks her head in a bush next to the driveway, gets stung by a bee! Blows up like a balloon, and we're straight back to the vet Reminds me that I really need to buy some antihistamines to keep in my car in case it happens again! Off topic and I will probably kick myself when you tell me, but what does BRD stand for?

Endurance Test 2011 Thread
RubyStar replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Are you guys just going to be doing bog laps of the GSDA grounds?! Couldn't think of anything more boring At least at the old location, there would have been scenery! Does anyone know why the location was changed? I think that is a huge step in the wrong direction for the ET if you guys are indeed just doing it around their grounds. Anyway, best of luck to all the WA competitors tomorrow! I'm sure you'll all do great :D -
Awesome, Rach!! Well done :D So where are you studying to become a qualified dog trainer? Proud of you :D What I'd give to land my dream job *sigh* Really not sure what I need to do to get there but I'm trying!

Happy Birthday James, you big spunky man!!!! :D

Exactly, we all have our own opinions and all our dogs do have their own requirements. I am not judging either (as I sit in both camps if that is possible!), it just seemed the second I said I chose to revaccinate I kinda felt I was being judged myself Very had to judge the written word, isn't it!! Interesting! That's what I will do for future puppies. Titre testing has its place, but my personal preference now after seeing how devastated Millie was, was just to do the 3 yearly booster and be done with it. Yearly is most certainly overkill. And by mid to late age in my dogs, I probably won't bother vaccinating again.

What Do You Like About Obedience
RubyStar replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It seems a bit bizarre and pointless to me. I taught Erik heel position when he was a puppy and thought it was a good exercise for me in precision training. However, since then I am finding plenty of things to be precise about that are more challenging for both me and my dogs, look cooler and make me smile like a straight sit never will. I guess that I think, why pursue arbitrary criteria that I only care about because I'm told I have to care about them when I could pursue arbitrary criteria that I care about because I made them up? I'm having a lot of trouble communicating this, but I guess in the end I'm left feeling like obedience doesn't have much to offer me except a way to measure my training if I decided to trial and a reason to create more secondary reinforcers. corvus, you've stated plenty of times that you don't find obedience or obedience heelwork particularly exciting. Nobody is trying to convince anyone that they should like something and why they should. It's a personal thing. If you don't like obedience, then you don't have to - nobody can or will convince you to like it but YOU. And if you don't, then who cares Passion for certain things, or lack of, are things you have to find purely on your own. -
I could be wrong but I think you'll find a lot of people do the 12 month booster (so really they are 14 months old), and then titre after that. I think pups need the booster 12 months after their puppy vacs in the bare minimum, and then titre test after that. As for the 3 yearly being more risky, currently don't have an opinion on that one besides I am happy to risk it as it's what the AVA recommend over yearly
-
Or what dog you'll be bringing! LOL Ruby of course, she'll only be 13 and is going to live forever! She might have a fighting chance of holding her SFE in her old age (if she doesn't lay down to go to sleep, first)
-
How often do you titre test? Yes it would be interesting to know if there is a 3 yearly C3 and a 3 yearly C5 for those purposes. I just assumed it would be exactly like the yearly ones!
-
Can't answer your question and I'm not OSS, but can't you just go and get the KC vax separate if need be? When I went in to get Ruby vaccinated again cos her parvo immunity was low, I asked for a C3 (so minus the KC) and he said he does the 3 yearly vax but I didn't clarify if that was still classed as a C3 or something else I can check her certificate when I get home for you?

My training for the 2020 Nationals is right on track Just not sure what city it will be, yet Hopefully back in Perth :p

How do you find the results of TT? Has Mason been vaccinated since his first TT? Interested in this also. Because at some stage if the titres are low, they will need to be revaccinated. I wouldn't have gotten Ruby vaccinated again the other month if her titres came back ok. But they came back as low on parvo so I made the decision to revaccinate. Couldn't have lived with myself if she picked parvo up when I knew this.
