What classes are you doing and where? Shame mum's MS isn't here yet. Mum is joining SR obedience classes when pup has had it's shots. She comes home August 5th. So once she has had her shots I could meet up with you and ST for a puppy play date Ruby loves puppies but I fear she might knock Zora over. She loves playing with that cute little Pap pup ;) and she tried playing with a coolie pup on Sunday She is so cute, she lays on her belly to play with the littlies. Anyway, you're welcome to use Ruby for socialisation but understand if you think she's not suitable, being a Lab and all ;) Regardless, I want puppy cuddles!!!

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RubyStar replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Where's the field trial being held? I'm having retrieving withdrawals, so I should probably go and watch a trial again soon -
Hope that proves true! Millie's drop on recall keeps breaking. She did such a LOVELY fast neat DOR last week at training, and some normal recalls, then didn't do any again til last night. Was planning on doing a straight through recall but she dropped on her own. I don't do very many DOR's at all and when I do, I always do normal ones as well so it keeps her guessing. So back to little recalls again!

Agility Training Talk Thread
RubyStar replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sorry guys, agility training doesn't come before warm lounge for me tonight I went and did obedience training last night and it was just as cold, if not colder! And I'll train agility Thursday night :p I need to break things down some which is harder to do on Tuesday nights, so will do what I need to do on Thursday :D P.S. not a fan of 8pm slot so early in the week, which is the main reason I skip Tuesdays I'm fine with late training on Thursday because I can sleep in a bit on Fridays! -

I'm not sure if I can be bothered going So cold!! Are you training at 8pm? -
Hugs for Indy, hope she starts eating again!

Poor Jedi I'd do as westielover suggested, back to basics with plank on the ground. I did that, then put the plank on a low table, increased the table height, then used the baby dogwalk for ages. I didn't have the option of lifting Ruby back on It had to be all her! The downfall of having a larger dog

Your Weim babies are so cute, ST!! Are they 8 weeks already?!

Summer puppies for me, thanks!!! Though sometimes I feel like a puppyy owner. I tend to escort the dogs out on their last toilet run of the evening and wait for them. Don't want them making a racket in the yard at midnight! Not only would it upset the neighbours but it scares the bejeezus outta me when they start perimeter pacing at that late hour with the occasional woof!
-
Thanks, but not really, we're pretty shocking. We just get lucky sometimes. When I get some time (ie. when/if priorities #1 and #2 shift), I will learn how to handle better so the runs look and feel nice, and not a hack job I'd really like to do that one day, but I need to prioritise! ;)

Oh no Jules, I am so so sorry to read your devastating news Hugs to you and your girls Run free, Brock

Congrats Kavik and Tassie! Millie picked up her first JDX pass today (only 3 qualifiers all up). I also had a bash at Novice Snooker with both girls. I went in with Millie first and messed it up royally (after she pulled out of the weaves and then took the tunnel twice, I politely excused ourselves ) I then went in with Ruby with a different game plan and we came out with a pass

Hey TN, Ruby is proof that they can get over the fear and get back on it. She's had 2 scares now and so I've had to battle twice to get her back on the dogwalk, but she's been ok for most of this year and is trialling in agility. She has always feared "ramps" even before her dogwalk phobia started so she does creep up the dogwalk instead of running over it, but at least she's getting on there and wants to! I had to use loooooooooots of treats, also tried getting her to follow another dog over it, also had other exciting new handlers take her over. Just a combination of those and patience got her back on it. Good luck!! What happened, did I miss you posting about it? Congrats on your quallies, too!!!

Oh my gosh I could just eat her up!! You are so lucky to have a puppy to play with :D I can't wait to meet her

Whats Required For First Obedience Trial
RubyStar replied to Kaffy Magee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've had Ruby stood over in Novice down stays by a Rotti, but all it wanted was to play (she's a gorgeous Rotti, so friendly that I think she must be part Lab ) Ruby's tail was wagging furiously as she so desperately wanted to get up and play with it, but she was such a good girl and didn't move, and the owner went in and got it. Ruby has also been next to a dog in CCD that rolled on its back in the down stay in such an enthusiastic manner, again she stayed. Ruby's first CCD trial had a dog get up and approach her in the sit stay (she had already laid down, but this dog made her get up again). I've been lucky so far that neither of my dogs have had aggressive dogs approach them, though it was a close call once in Novice stays. We had just entered the ring, there was Ruby, then a GSP, then a Collie Rough. The GSP went for the Collie TWICE before we had even started stays. While I feel sorry for the poor Collie, I am so glad it chose the Collie over Ruby to mess with! As Ruby won't start anything but she gets all up in yer face if they have words with her! She gets highly offended and goes all drama queen. It upset Ruby, she was a bit shaken up so I heeled her around a bit to settle her down, then we did stays (after the GSP was removed and reported). Very recently, there was a dog that was eyeing a dog next to it in stays and doing this whole paw thing, it was so unsettled and just wanted to play with the dog next to it. The dog next to it was extremely nervous by this and got up and went to its mum. Another dog further down the line didn't like this, and got up and barked at it! This of course meant the 2 remaining dogs in position (my Millie and another dog) got up as they were alarmed at the barking! I don't blame Millie for getting up - being in a down stay is a vulnerable position and these unexpected warning barks was enough to startle them all. I went and got Millie, and settled her down. We were allowed to leave the ring for a few minutes to settle our dogs down and were all given another chance. Millie came out and won the ring Doesn't matter what level you're trialling in, there is always the chance of a dog interfering with yours! It just so happens that it happens more frequently in the lower levels They really should abolish group stays, it really isn't the safest exercise. -
Exactly. Just because she got the dog free out of the paper and it's a bit matted up, doesn't mean she might be a bad owner. It might have been just what the dog needs and could live a happy, well looked after life with your colleague... Or not. But as you said, who knows!

Done deal! CD with Rory in exchange for ET with Labs x 2! :D (oh and no expert here, I may in fact break his enthusiasm!) Yeah sorry ness, the deal is ET only. Which you're welcome to do, but Tassie seems to be the ET pro! -
yes that doesn't sit well at all I felt sorry for her until I read about her new purchases. Makes me SICK!!!! Poor dog

I would go hungry before I make my dogs go hungry. They get veterinary care much more often than I receive medical care. They had pet insurance long before I had medical insurance. They get fed supplements when I don't care enough about myself to do the same for me! I have an acquaintance on facebook whose dog is facing surgery. She messaged me for advice because she says she simply can't afford to pay for it and for reasons she can't go into, cannot loan the money. She said she may have to euthanize him instead. Couple of weeks later, facebook status update is about her upgrading to the newest android phone and getting her first tablet PC  So I added a comment in that status asking how her dog is. In circumstances like these, yes I truly believe the dog should come before the person!!!! While her dog is in pain and faces death, she is getting herself new phones and computers when she's allegedly broke. I don't approve at all

Good thing I'm not currently because it would be all over my screen right now! Is Trixie only 2?!

I'll offer you free accommodation in exchange for training my two I'm such a sook in cold weather. It's freezing here today, but it's probably warmer than your warm day! I lack motivation to head out to train in cold weather, unless I have people I am meeting up with to train. I could go for a bike ride this arvo, but can't be bothered I'm rugged up under the blankie right now! Better get back to work -
No not really, it's just that I haven't had holidays in forever, so thought I may as well take a couple of days off. I would like to take the whole week off actually. Your birthday is a couple of days after mine miss pie Are you getting drunk and where do I sign up? :p

Tassie, do you bike both your dogs together at the same time? I wouldn't have the guts to do this with mine Sounds like you're going great guns, and your commitment is astounding in such cold weather, and with all the other commitments you have as well! Well done! Wanna have a holiday in Perth next year and get 2 Labs ready for the ET? ;) -
You're invited! A few of us (me, mirawee, amypie and rallyvalley) are heading to the show Wicked on the 31st July at Burswood and are meeting up for dinner beforehand, partly because we need to eat anyway and partly in celebration of my big birthday the next day. I am opening up the dinner invite to our WA thread folk if anyone would like to help me celebrate (or console me). The restaurant hasn't been picked yet, but it will be in the Burswood complex due to the show being there. The restaurants there are pretty pricey so my vote goes for Carvers buffet. It's about $22 a head I think, which includes endless soft drink. Please let me know if you'd like to join us! Would love to see some of you there! We are also going to have some drinkies and head to the casino after the show so anyone is welcome to join us then, too. But as it's a Sunday night, I can't see many people opting for that. But dinner will be early enough for you to get home and prepare yourself for work the next day! (I have the Monday and Tuesday off :D)
