Quarantine Detector Dog Program Positions
RubyStar replied to Clicking Mad's topic in General Dog Discussion
I just got all excited then until I saw they are Team Lead and Senior positions Thanks for the heads up, though, hopefully someone here will have some luck -
Thanks valley but I was just kidding Cute puppy, though

And we will be perfect tenants, any landlord will be lucky to have us :champagne: Thanks for the offer but that is a bit too far out, we're looking for a nice short easy commute The Cottesloe one looks promising on a second viewing, so fingers crossed! Ptolomy, hope the Toller cuddles are going well Can I ask, commute to where? The city? Canning Vale isn't that far out of the city, less than half hour by car! How far is it Cottesloe to the city? If work are paying for it, or most of it, I'd be getting a nice beach side property too. But people need to realise Canning Vale and surrounds is not a very big commute, I am 20 mins by train to the city

There is a section on the Petplan form, if you know the persons name who's dog injured yours you have to fill it in, I think Petplan then contact them and try and make them pay up. Fair enough, but not the angle I was coming from ;) To be clearer, if one of your dogs injures another dog of yours, if the one who caused the injury has insurance, is there anything to cover the cost of the injured animal (kinda like 3rd party insurance... which I know nothing about so I am probably likening it to something that I shouldn't be :D)
-
Hmm just wondering - if your dog that has insurance, injures another dog that doesn't, there isn't any chance you can claim using the one of the dog who did the injury? Gosh that sounds sillier when I type it out than it does in my head, but the dog causes damage, isn't there any sort of cover available for this?
-
If your pup didn't show symptoms before you took out the cover, and their policy doesn't exclude the condition, then I'd be claiming. But I think you only have 12 months in which to back claim something. I should have claimed for Ruby's yeasty ears as I went in a few times for it, costing about $110 so I thought why bother. By the time I realised had I claimed the first time, I would have received other visits back in full (within that year) as I would have already paid the excess first time round. Unfortunately, I left it so long I didn't bother. Now I'm with another insurer, they wouldn't pay up for her ears as it's on her medical history. In general, I claim for stuff that are $200 or more. I've claimed twice, one for each dog. One was x-rays and the other was to remove a lump in the mouth, both costing around the $600 mark.

Wish I had! I insured Ruby at 9 weeks old, which wasn't sufficient time for me to claim the little accident she had and I had to fork out for! She swallowed glad wrap out of the bin so she had x-rays and stuff to see if it caused a blockage. A few hundred dollars later, she naturally passed it that night the little minx ;) Glad it passed though of course, cos there was talks of cutting her open to retrieve it if it wasn't out by the next day :D I think it took 2 or 3 days to pass, can't remember. Why couldn't you claim for it? Did they classify it as an illness rather than accident? Or did it happen before you insured her? Glad she was ok! There was a 10 day waiting period or something for it for accidents I believe.. I even rang up and asked, knowing I wouldn't be entitled, and they confirmed for me that unfortunately I couldn't claim.

If it's easy city access you want, you shouldn't forget those suburbs that are further out (therefore cheaper) and quite close to a train station! I live less than a 5 min walk to the train and I can be in th city in half the time it would take me to drive there, without the parking costs, the traffic woes, and my car is tucked up safely in the garage each day!

$1000 per week? The ceiling should be lined with gold, not mould!!!

A guy who loves Labs... is he taken? Maybe a "still" singles thread needs to be started
-
Awww how very sweet! Lucky Ella!!!
-
Do we even have any guys in the WA thread? I think the only guy who comes in here is Nick! I wanna know which thread all these guys are hanging out in, cos I'm clearly participating in the wrong ones

think I read somewhere blood clotting / circulation issues as well. It's just plain cruel. Don't forget the huge health issue of the very real possibility of sitting or stepping on the dog and killing it it's that small!

Who's Doing Something Dog-related Today?
RubyStar replied to halfthewords's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep, I am, I'm having a DOL day and being paid for it (because I have no work to do!) Would rather be at home though with my pooches -
There's a lovely thread in Off Topic about how people met their partners, and I was surprised to see quite a few people met theirs on DOL! Where are all the gorgeous dog loving guys hiding, certainly not in the WA thread
-
I'll try be there! But as GR says, where the hell is it?!
-
Yay for Strauss day!! Can't wait to meet the little man this weekend

Agility Training Talk Thread
RubyStar replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It is so funny watching the dogs trying to figure out what will earn a click, though I set the jumps up in the backyard without the bar on them with Ruby near me and she starts running around them and pawing them in an effort to get a click. Umm Ruby, we haven't started yet Then after I did some jumping with her, I got the clicker out and did some shaping with her and she kept running up to the jumps, around them, jumped over some in her own order, all in an effort to get a click. My criteria had nothing to do with the jumps at this stage but it was funny as hell to watch her do anything and everything -
I spoke too soon! I can see out of the corner of my eye a couple of Labs eyeballing me.... I know what those stares mean and the second I get off the lounge they will be up in a flash!

I rarely have super motivated spells. I just chug along, mainly with mediocre motivation! I can be a little grumpy with my dogs if they keep doing the wrong thing, and I hate being like that :D I've gotten so much better with that attitude, but still needs work! I do sometimes think why do I bother torturing myself, but then I have breakthroughs like I think I had today that keeps me going I need a truck load of motivation and a semi-trailer load of skill if anybody can deliver on the weekend? :D

I've finally suffered my first i-squeak casualty. From those originals I ordered from the bulk CR order we did on DOL around 18 months ago (not the recent i-squeak order), a small blue one finally bit the dust. Which is good though because I was just about to rip the squeaker out of one for trials! Don't have to now All the ones from the recent order that I got are still in their plastic bags :D Ohhh that reminds me, I saw i-squeaks for sale in a Melbourne pet shop But it was a stupid pet shop that sold puppies (with people cooing over them ), so I walked right out. The large was about $15 from memory.

I'm so tired, so I'm piking on agility training tonight It's amazing what a bit of sunshine and fresh air does to you. Went and did a bit of training today (those on my facebook will know what "excitement" we got up to down at the K9 ) then came home and did a few chores, then got the clicker out and started working on a few new things. My girls polished off neary 1kg of treats today :D I'm not concerned, Ruby is looking a little ribby at the moment so it won't hurt her. The dogs are sooooo stuffed from all the training that they are dead to the world in front of the heater and haven't bugged me for their dinner once (this never happens!!) They can go without it if they stay asleep, but Millie should really get some, it was Ruby who got most of those treats :D
