  1. Naughty Beagle!!!!!!! I vote for stays to be thrown out, they are useless and cause us to lose some nice quallies So glad to hear that her ringwork was lovely, so lots of positives yay :D Well done Kath, sounds like Coco is coming along well!
  2. Finding a training partner will be the toughest part!!
  3. My heart just melts at the sight of every Labrador pup in existence, and a healthy looking adult Lab. I can't help but stare at the Guide Dogs I see on the train and out and about. My love affair with the Lab started long before I got to actually own one. I love a few other breeds but Labs are definitely MY breed!
  4. I want to do this next year but lack the motivation to go and train it Well done guys!!!!
  5. Have you been studying hard? I went out to the movies tonight, so no "study" for me. Rally looks like fun, but I am still in the minority that thinks "traditional" obedience is a hoot (edit: when it goes well )
  6. TerraNik, GORGEOUS little puppy!!! I'm sure you're going to have heaps of fun with her! Bugger huski, but sounds like Daisy improved and third time's a charm perhaps??? Good luck tomorrow! Sounds like Ella's UD is going well besides the few minor hiccups, way to go
  7. Half way between Tiggys and MM... my house? We could do somewhere in Midland though (yes I am including myself) Tiggy they did do an annoucment at class which was particularly effective as only 3 people turned up for obidience. I think a little Eastern Surburbs club between me, you and MM is probably the way to go! You guys could call it the DOL Dog Club and become ANKC affiliated ;)
  8. My son has an orange belton English Setter, he got him at an 18 month old ex-show dog. He is totally, utterly gorgeous but fair dinkum, he's the dumbest dog I have ever met. I'm sure there are intelligent ones around but my sons dog isn't a good advert for ES brains. I don't know much about the breed, but know they are beautiful Especially love the orange beltons! I've been advised that the ES isn't the most excited by the idea of obedience trialling, but I would absolutely love the challenge one day many years away at training/trialling one in obedience! If I wasn't after a dog to trial, then ES most definitely would be up there on my list. I love how laidback they appear to be as adults Just hope they don't "bore" me after having Labs!! Labs will always be my #1
  9. I grew up with toy breeds so wanted something bigger as my first dog as an adult. I fell in love with Labs as a teenager so it was always going to be a Lab when I was finally in the position to get my own dog. They are the complete opposite to me - full of life, energetic and thinks everyone is their friend, while I'm relatively shy and not so energetic But they are the one thing that truly brings a genuine smile to my face Since joining DOL, my dog breed list has branched out from Labs, Labs and Labs after reading and seeing so many beautiful pictures of other breeds. I'd love an Aussie, a Beagle and an English Setter. I don't think the ES would suit my lifestyle as well as the others will, though. Maybe that is a dog for me later in life when I am not as interested in training all the time I just wish I could have one of each, or several of each in different colours!
  10. How much are you looking at your dog? I agree with the judges, you shouldn't be looking at your dog while heeling, it's an extra cue. I've seen some give a dog a glare when they don't sit or something, double signal right there Edit: If I feel I've lost my dog big time on a turn or figure 8, I will look for her, but I've already lost points for that so my care factor is I'd rather know if she's run out of the ring instead of keep walking
  11. You're joining Midland though, right? Is this Eden Hill you're talking about cancelling obedience classes?
  12. Nawww look at her go!! You know what I love about hers (and the other red kids) heeling? The way their head is stretched so far up to look at you, that it's a flat line from their chin right down to their feet Very nice!!! I should do some serious duration work, I always seem to call them off and reward them too soon to catch them before they look away, which isn't doing me any favours for upping that duration. I'll have to set the video camera up I think so I can see from a different perspective how well they are paying attention...
  13. I love my electric blanket But it makes it very hard to get out of bed in the morning I am finding that on really cold mornings I will crawl out of toasty bed and put the heater on. Ruby rushes right in and sets up camp. Makes it hard to get dressed though when she's hogging it!
  14. Have those attending this Saturday/Sunday received their confirmation email and instructions for the day? I haven't received one yet so will ask Thursday night about it, but just in case anybody has it and can give me any of the info sooner, would be much appreciated!
  15. I still have a book of 55c stamps to use, what a pain to have to go and buy 5c stamps
  16. I'd be one of those ones either turning the R/C aircon off because it's too cold in winter, or upping the temp I can't handle the cold! Lucky my office is pretty good, my last was a shocker!! Edit: I HATE going into a supermarket fridge section unless I am rugged up, it's awfully cold! I keep saying there is no way I could work in a supermarket... or a hospital by the sounds of it!
  17. Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!! I was strong, and closed the site. However, I would really love to buy one of those big lush beds, and another soft crate! Don't ask me why, when the dogs have a zillion beds already, and a soft crate I spent well over $100 on end of last year and have never used yet!!! I'm a dog stuff shopaholic
  18. Please classify "weird" for those of us playing along at home
  19. The name rings a bell. I think he was last years judge at our state and national trial. He put me through Novice in the state trial, and it was some of our best heelwork to date Shame about the SFE though, he laughed when Ruby wanted to say hello
  20. Some really awesomely priced things there today! I wanna go on a huge shopping spree. Someone please take my credit card off me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. So they're aware that a puppy is not just a one off cost, either? All those vet bills, and all those bills coming their way to repair all the damage a puppy Lab can do, especially being an outdoor only dog That is great they are holding off for a while, though! Will give them a chance to think about things and hopefully when the baby(ies) arrive their hands will be too full to think of getting a dog!
  22. What are you heading to the park for? You've got that huge new backyard There is a woman who lives around the corner from where I used to live and she sees me drive my dogs to the park while she is walking hers, I bet I get "lazy" thoughts from her! But I drive the dogs when I go there only to train, or if I'm on my way home from mum and dad's and I stop for a quick ball throwing session to wear them out. Don't think she realises the training part To keep mildly on topic, this was an interesting read. I am going to start teaching Ruby soon I think She's had a quick go before not getting very far from the start peg, but I didn't progress any further and that was last year so I've been very slack
  23. Now that is a straight out LIE!!! Puppies have that gorgeous, GORGEOUS puppy breath ;) Nothing beats a Lab puppy breath :D Erm I don't think Mindy smells... PerhapsI have become desenstized then I didn't mean she smells (bad) Your Mindy didn't come to you with that gorgeous sweet smelling puppy breath?!?! I miss puppy breath so much
