My superstar showed her agility skills by somehow getting from the middle of the dinning room table a HUGE fruit and nut toblerone while I was at the shop for a mere 20 minutes and mum was still in bed. When I came home I discovered a gift tag on the floor so went looking for what it should have been attached to and found Beans (yes the allergy child ) thoroughly engrossed in her winnings. Yes I know chocolate and raisins are a NO NO On a more serious note, is she ok?? I know the most that would come out of Ruby's eating adventure would be she would be getting no dinner that night and more poos - yep, she had me up at 1am whining to go out, made a mad dash for the grass and was actually a little bit constipated!! We've had a good run, 3 or so years and this is the first mishap of it's kind

I would have thought there would be some reference to retrieving in that title. People will go "qualified in what?"
-
Ruby is just an all round superstar . Lucky I wasn't drinking coffee or it would have been spluttered all over my screen! My "superstar" indulged in an entire container of 4Legs yesterday out of my training bag Bad dog, but but handler for leaving them there!!

Thanks for the name of the new title, it was driving me nuts what the actual letters were The link Amy posted is what you were after, and you were only half inventing a conversation I used that method for Millie after I taught Ruby very adhoc. Though Ruby still has the stronger retrieve.

fetchindawgs / valleyCBR - can either of you please tell me what that new retrieving title is again? Something to do with a qualifying retrieving dog after successfully completing 5 trials? And is it an approved title yet or just an idea that is being tossed around?

It's called the "I don't really know what I'm doing, being my first attempt at dog training, but the dog seems to know what she's doing thank goodness!" method. I don't have a link to it, but can arrange one if required Was very nice to meet you too fetchindawgs, thanks for the tips ST - soooooo not ready to be trialling! Ruby can't complete a whole retrieve on her own yet if it's too far away, but she is showing promise! She is mainly lacking confidence to keep looking. I am so impressed that she had 2 river crosses in one of her retrieves and still kept looking! She didn't realise it had landed a bank higher up than where she was. At one stage she couldn't find a nice entry into the water so she took a leap of faith and jumped in! :D Then on her return she had to climb that steep bank. I could see her using every ounce of strength she had to climb that bank, she struggled, but she managed to get up AND keep that dummy in her mouth! But then when she had all 4 feet on the ground she dropped it to have a nice shake This is something I need to work on. And I need to work on her heelwork with that many smells and distractions around as she wants to get there quicker than me to get going! When it wasn't her turn, she kept watching the dummy being launched with such focus, and she was whining and trembling in anticipation of being allowed to run and go get it. The day was just fantastic, it was such a rush!!!!!!! :D

Yep, already don't spend much time at home as it is, what's one more activity, eh? My housework and renovations are really taking a hit

Had an absolute ball today at the Retrieving Training Day! What a RUSH to watch your dog perform what they were bred for, to watch their instincts kick in While Ruby is lacking confidence in venturing too far on her own to keep looking for the dummy (will introduce to birdies at a later stage!), I was super proud of her diving into the river, up the bank, then into the river again on the other side of that bank and up again. 2 river crosses and still looking But the dummy landed on the bank another level up from her, so she needed a bit of help to understand to look up there. Loved watching her speed and enthusiasm as she took off in pursuit of the retrieve And she wasn't freaked out by the gunshot going off next to her Now I just need to figure out how to train properly for retrieving, cos boy I think I'm hooked

Just watched Daisy's heelwork video, great work

Way to go, Daisy! Sounds like some really good training sessions there

What about UDX when you have your OC? I'm guessing the UDX is there to stay as that one too is optional. If what Seita says about CCD is true, perhaps I will skip CCD with Millie and go straight to Novice. I don't like that it could be there to stay! Seems a bit silly. Edit: Your quote from the blue book says about highest titles AFTER the name, so wouldn't that mean you keep UD (or UDX) as well as the OC?

Just looks weird to me! I'll be dropping it once we get the CD

Is this from CleanRun? I saw that and was hoping it would have free shipping, wanted to order it too! Do you mind me asking how much it cost you including shipping, and where from? :p I got mine from Air Dogs but it seems to be missing off their website now so maybe they sold out. It was about $45 with postage. Great minds think alike. ;) I am thinking or re-training Toby using the method and training Lincoln using it, we can work through it togther on Thursdays. You guys should share your book and loan a copy to me and Amy

Really?? I haven't seen anyone do this though Not sure many people who have a UD or OC title would want CCD displayed there though for some reason :p

Semeru Bellis CDX has a nice ring to it, you'll get there I'm looking forward to when Millie gets her first title, so her Associate registered named doesn't look so lonely ;) Milliemoo CCD will be a good start! (yes, I really did register her as Milliemoo! The other option I was tossing up was Justmillie ) Speaking of dumbell and surprises, I was doing retrieve over the solid jump with Ruby last week and Millie looked keen. So I gave her a go and blow me down, she did it :p She must have learnt that by watching Ruby Though when I tell Millie "box", she just stares blankly at me... don't think she's been watching Ruby do that one too closely

not yet!!

I had a fun night training last night Took both girls to do some agility with Amypie and they worked very well, very pleased with them! Then I couldn't help myself and did some obedience with them afterwards. I think I may make a trialling dog out of Millie yet Her heelwork is focused once she revved up (though I need to sort her forging issue), and her dumbell retrieve is coming along nicely! Still need to work on her present being a little closer, but I am soooooooooo pleased that she is bringing it back, sitting, HOLDING IT, and not mouthing it :p Getting her to hold it until I say give has been excrutiating. That was the bit that Ruby was held up on for ages too (the rest went so much smoother for Ruby, while the whole process has been a long one with Millie). Millie is doing most Open exercises now too (though certainly not as reliably as Ruby), so I am quite chuffed with my girls I love a good training session ;)

What To Do If A Dog Off Lead Attacks Your Dog
RubyStar replied to miss shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks. ILK you're right, it's anxiety I feel walking my area now, and at the sight of any street roaming offlead dog, even if its small! I feel so ridiculous! A couple of days after the event, some small fluffy dogs barked at me through a fence, even that scared the bejesus outta me! -
Cool, thanks. Maybe I will just leave after lunch anyway, hmm but I'm meant to be going out for lunch, don't wanna be full for it Can only leave early (if it goes all day) if Masons Mom doesn't mind as we're going together. I'll definitely be there for the first 3 hour session though So did you not get the afternoon shift?
-
Does anyone know how long this retrieving day goes for this Sunday? Like is it all day or is it just the 3 hours in the morning, followed by BBQ, then home? Reason I ask is the family have now arranged a mother's day lunch at 2pm so just trying to work out if I can make it to both! If I can't, sorry Mum, I'm off to retrieving

What To Do If A Dog Off Lead Attacks Your Dog
RubyStar replied to miss shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Rubystar, how horrible. I can't imagine what it feels like to not feel safe walking in your own street and neighbourhood. Take photos, if you can, of these dogs and report to the council - see if you can find out where they live and just keep hammering it home to them each and every day - eventually something will happen. We had a DA and people agreesive dog in our street and the owners didn't have proper fencing and let it roam loose, no collar etc. Several of us in the street just kept on at the council - the dog is now contained behind proper fencing and we never see it anymore. Well these dogs were standing in their front driveway with no owner in sight and came rushing out across the road to me to "attack" me. So I know where these dogs live. They got reported to the council right away, but all they did was issue a warning to them. The ranger has been out again to follow up on the initial report (saw them at their house and spoke to council to see if they were there for another offence but turns out it was just a follow up) and I haven't seen the dogs out again since, but it still doesn't make me feel any safer in all honesty. On Thursday night when I was walking home past this house, they had their front door open with just the security screen door closed and these 2 dogs were barking quite ferociously at me walking by (on the opposite side of the road again, I won't walk on the footpath in front of their house!!) and I gotta tell ya, I was so close to tears. I was trembling so much, praying to Dog that that screen door was latched properly! I thought knowing my luck, it won't be latched properly and they will come tearing out at me for round #2! Yes it might be a bit dramatic, but it really has affected me Very awful feeling to have -
VCBR - aren't you starting to feel sick?? :D :D *cough cough* You can't go into work when you are contagious :D
