The poles hang out about 50cm past the fabric. If I stretch it any more either the poles will snap or the fabric will rip Does it help any to get the poles in if it's already standing up and suctioned to the car? When I am at this point I still have it lying on the ground. It's the step after this one where it says to attach to the car.

See the poles at the bottom closest to you on the screen? Well with the pole other ends inserted correctly (near the roof that suction to the car), the poles on these ends stick out way past the fabric where there is a peg hanging off the fabric. This peg is meant to hook onto the bottom of the pole somewhere. Impossible

Love the facebook page Has to be taking the piss for sure!! Are you able to elaborate on that at all please? This is something I don't know about

Does anyone have details of the retrieving trial held tomorrow (16th May)? I know the rough place, the equestrian centre in Upper Swan I think, but I don't know the time and the exact instructions on where at the equestrian centre it is being held :D I would like to go and watch the Novice trial which I know is first up, 8am I think.

I prefer obedience over agility but I am finding I am training agility more because I have more people to train agility with. Nobody wants to train obedience with me, not sure why I'm looking for a retrieving training buddy though, as I am really keen on getting this training underway :D Motivation to train comes for me more when I have a training buddy, even if we're doing our own things, it's nice to have someone near by to bounce ideas off and vent to if things go wrong

Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy
RubyStar replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
:D Ridiculous. Run!! OT: What is your poodle x crossed with? I always thought she was just a mini poodle, I obviously don't know my small breeds -
Does anyone have one of these BCF RV Shade Deluxe thingies and have managed to assemble them? I'm up to step 5 and for the life of me can't get the peg thingy to meet the metal at the bottom of each pole!! Surely it can't be too hard. I never buy into statements such as "easy to assemble" because usually that isn't the case (unless you're some real handy type or have assembled it 100 times already! ) but I didn't think it would be THIS hard and fiddly!! Trying to assemble it on my own is very hard and time consuming, and then getting stuck at step 5 isn't helping matters! Dog help me trying to assemble it in public! Got two trials on next weekend and wanted to use it, but if it's this flippin' hard then I might just take it back!! Hope some "pro" can help me out!!! Please! :D Edited to add a picture of the nightmare of a thing! It's those bottom pieces I can't join.

My niece is the best spectator. Had Ruby doing silly things like walking backwards between my legs and spins last night and she thinks Ruby is very clever :D Aunt and Uncle were visiting once and I was just mucking around with a few things like COP and they were impressed too

Threads like these are few and far between! The last thread I read that brought many tearies of laughter was the Chuck Norris one This one is right up there! :D

Little tearies are forming x2 Sooo funny Sounds like a euphemism for something

Millie barks her head off if she's NOT training, waiting for her turn, but she then goes silent like Ruby when training. I like my quiet thinkers But the only shaping I have done with Millie is the dumbell, so I have no idea if she'd woof at me too. It was just very unlike Ruby! It was a half hearted woof, not so much AT me, just a small noise of displeasure kind of under her breath at being wrong! I enjoy shaping with Ruby as she was a clicker trained pup, but Millie drives me bonkers having not done a lot of it. She hasn't "learnt to learn" like Ruby has, but is trying hard to catch up!
-
I haven't asked her to fetch random objects like keys, slippers, etc. so I don't know for sure. But she fetches the dumbell, bumper, and scent discrimination objects. Though she finds it very hard to pick the SD articles up, so she tosses them around in her mouth to get a better grip. She looks like she's trying to smoke it most times, as she comes back with it holding it by the end I obviously need to do more work on this, but have been focusing more on other exercises.

Are the ones at K9 grippy? I don't want to teach him to mouth hard because the dumbell is slipping around. I don't think you'll find dumbells with grip on the mouth part IMO, wood encourages the dogs to "chomp" on the dumbell, as the soft wood is so enticing! But I only have one dog experience in that You can teach them not to mouth though with whatever one you use. My concern is that wet, smooth plastic can slip, causing him to use his teeth, I have never seen a dumbell up close so this fear might be unfounded They can roll the plastic ones around in their mouth. When it comes down to it, a dog can mouth wood or plastic, its you who has to teach the dog that mouthing isn't allowed

I have a funny from training last night. Well, it quite amused me, not sure others will get it being that they don't know my dog! (or not agree with the way I train!) I was doing some shaping with Ruby to get weave entries right. When she got it wrong, I simply ignored her while she stood there waiting for me to throw her a treat or ball (I was mixing the reward up a bit). There were a few repetitions when she got it wrong one after the other (yes I should have made it simpler if she was getting it wrong more than once or twice, but that's another story!) then out of nowhere, she came and sat looking up at me, then woofed at me! The reason I found this amusing is because this dog is a silent learner, she doesn't make any noise while training, even when we're shaping and she's trying to work out the criteria. She was clearly frustrated that what she was doing wasn't right, enough to give me a little woof! Whether it's the right reaction or not, I found it amusing and had a bit of a giggle. I then made it simpler for her and it was the one and only woof of the night

Think I might have seen it but if you can dig it up I'll watch it again. I'm bored at work

Another reason to make sure the wood is not a soft light one I go plastic now The obedience trial I did in Bunbury recently was terribly windy, I couldn't even walk in a straight line! I didn't see what the people throwing dumbells had to endure! I do know the seekback took some dogs a while because the scent was being blown all over the place!

At the shop at K9, valley I bought mine from some online place, can't remember the name. But will buy my next one from the K9 shop when I start trialling in Open (as my current one Millie found in my bag ages ago and thought it was a chew toy ) If you want a wood one, like amy says, that website sell them. But be careful what type of wood you get, the one I brought from there the edges chipped very badly from general use (was only thrown on grass and wasn't a mouthing issue!) Get a hard wood one if you don't want to go plastic.

If I train at home (inside or outside) I work on the finer details such as fronts, finishes, back end awareness/pivoting, sometimes scent discrimination, dumbell hold, stays Oh and now I will be adding contact training for agility and weaving out the back. I just need more nights of the week

I must have slept through most of the storm. It was the dog that woke me, not the storm, and for the few minutes I was awake at 5am, there was very light rain and only a handful of small thunder and lightening. Maybe the real show happened once I was asleep again, cos most of under my patio was wet when I got up at 7. I'm glad I've decided to get a doggy door installed to give the dogs run of the back room as well as the backyard instead of the large kennel I was going to get, now that I've seen not much of under my patio remains dry at all!
-
I woke up at 5am to the sounds of nails clacking their way into my bedroom on the wood floors, which is very unusual because the girls know they can't wander the house at night, bed time means bed until morning. It was Millie. I thought she must wanted to go to the toilet so I walked to the back door, her following, when I saw a flash of lightening and heard thunder. Ahh I see now, wasn't toilet she wanted, although when I opened the door Ruby was happy to run outside into the rain  Millie just couldn't settle so I locked them both in the bathroom so I could go back to sleep, one of only two rooms in the house that has a door

Boxer Suitable For Obedience/agility Sports?
RubyStar replied to TUPS's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Agreed. Your dogs get used to their routine, whether it be lots of exercise or little. If you offer them heaps of exercise, they will get used to it and expect nothing less! They will also become fitter and demand more and more to tire them out! I own Labs who people say would need at least an hour walk/off lead a day. Ermm nope, not my two, they are more than happy to laze around if I don't get a chance to walk them. And they sure as heck don't get an hour of physical exercise a day! They get that and more in training (mental stimulation) most nights. Just as tiring as physical exercise, if not more. And to keep this post vaguely on topic, one of mine is a rescue who is being trained for obedience and agility. Some areas she is stronger in than the one I got as a pup, so you don't need to rule out rescue (unless you are deadly competitive and want to take no chances because you want nothing less than a champion! The right rescue can be a champion too, mind you.)
