  1. And if that was the attitude most of us carried around, most of our dogs wouldn't be doing more than one discipline! Our dogs are smart enough to learn different things and different disciplines So glad I wasn't around to train in times like those! Training is so much fun when you can throw as many different things at your dog as you both can handle, which is quite a few
  2. huski, I know how you must feel! And how dare they! I agree, stick with training with people you know or train on your own
  3. Lexi has another name? Look Ptolomy, everyone is so intrigued by your kids
  4. OMG poor Jed, my thoughts are with her
  5. Is that the 2x2 weaving method? Forgot to add another 3 weeks to that total, to get the DVD back from amypie Might grab it from you tomorrow night if that's ok?
  6. Knew you'd pop up I wanted to teach 2x2 in a leisurely manner. It will take me 3 weeks just to watch and understand the DVD, let alone start teaching it!
  7. Yep! Haven't watched it yet either. Might put it on tonight if I get time Yes I keep meaning to bring it to things! You have an obidience trial the 22nd right? I should be showing at K9 so if your trial is there I can give it to you then. Thanks! And yep, 22nd at K9.
  8. Regardless of having the weave bases already or not, I don't think I could train a reliable 2x2 weave in 9 weeks! I was under the impression it would take a bit longer but would be more reliable in the end. I'll just keep going with the way I was doing last night and maybe train Millie with 2x2 at my leisure. amypie, love your updated siggy!!!!!
  9. valley, can I pretty please borrow your retrieving DVD sometime?
  10. Aww poor Lincoln and his sore foot. And no, he is far from overweight! Really enjoyed agility last night. They want us to learn weaves already Ruby said no problem Mum She also said you don't mind if I miss a few here and there do you? But on the whole, 5 mins work and she was starting to understand the criteria, so I'm pretty chuffed! Gonna work on them tonight me thinks
  11. Oh no, poor Beans!! Hope she makes a speedy recovery.
  12. Had a great first night back at agility for this term RosieFT and I got graduated to the Elementary class (I think that's what its called) We have to teach the dogs to weave in 9 weeks I gave it a go tonight and Ruby was showing potential already so I think I'm going to have to get the weavers out over the next 9 weeks and practice, practice, practice! Oh and Ruby my "stand in" dog as RosieFT and amypie are calling her, who sat Millie's exam end of last term after not doing any of the classes, got her graduation certificate and sash tonight for passing
  13. Is that really the case? Sorry, just trying to understand. I didn't join the Canine until Ruby was 2 years old. She was registered in my name by 8/9 weeks of age, and on her registration papers it had a membership number against my name, though I didn't have a membership yet. When I actually registered, this became my number. So the dog can be registered in your name even if you aren't a member yet, and it looks like a membership number is reserved for the owner should they wish to join. Having the dog registered in your name may not matter to some if they aren't going to join Canine, but to me it would feel wrong having my dog in someone else's name, regardless of me joining Canine or not. I want to know my dogs are mine in every sense, if you know what I mean. Happy to oblige anything in a contract, I like to earn and keep the respect of my breeder/s, but would still like a dog in my name if the breeder is happy for that to happen. I'm lucky that it was never an issue with Ruby, the breeder transferred her over to me automatically, no prodding from me required And yes, she is desexed, but wasn't part of any contract.
  14. We held onto the papers of our limit registered pup... the dog was to be sterilised before it would have been ready to compete in dog sports (not that they wanted to compete anyway). By holding onto the papers they couldn't "accidently" breed with the dog and show a copy of his paperwork to say the parents were registered. They got the papers and a $300 refund once they sent the sterilisation certificate And they certainly didn't have any problems with it as unless you want to breed or are ready to compete the papers don't mean anything anyway. If the dog is show quality and you may want to try showing ask the breeder if you can transfer her to the Neuter register as well. Not many Clubs run neuter events but they are bringing in a neuter championship title We do the same as do many breeders Physically having the papers in their hands or not aside, does this mean the dog is still in the breeders name, too?
  15. Millie is pencilled in for sometime later this year, that's as close as I can pinpoint at this stage Or if Ruby decides to be a star and get her last Novice pass soon, then Millie may make her debut a bit earlier...
  16. Problem is there are unstable dogs still in Novice, too. I'll probably do CCD but I train more with the lead off than on, too. Only time I train with a lead on is if there are a lot of squeaky balls in the vicinity, I am then likely to have Millie run off to one thinking it's hers
  17. Not my video, but a funny one I just found on youtube. Retrieve over solid jump that goes a little wrong, but the dog doesn't give up!!
  18. Have you tried practicing without your dog? Try not to change your speed to match what the dog is doing, the dog should keep up with you.
  19. Bit hard when I've been training by myself for the past few weeks :p And now you've moved, I'll probably be nigel no friends at training forever! I really need to get some video of Millie working so I can work out what needs the most attention to debut her soon. I'm not sure if I should do CCD with her or not! Yay for Lexi's UD debut!!! Can't wait for that! :D
  20. Me and Lincoln SHOULD be there but we might have to leave a little early cause I have to work. I don't know if you know but it starts at 12.30 now. We will also be there the next day for Gundog Club show. ;) Yes, I noticed all the ads throughout the latest K9 news. Which is why I thought I might head along. Im heading to Perth that weekend anyway, so it would be nice to spend the arvo at the dog show before heading further north to my brothers place. And I may catch up with people I didnt get to see at the Western Classic! But I WONT be bringing cake :D :p Rat There's an obedience trial on the 22nd too. Also one on the 23rd but at the GSDA headquarters I believe.
  21. Labrador Retriever (currently own and hope to always own!) Australian Shepherd English Setter Beagle Foxhound PBGV Can't think of anymore I want to own!
  22. Mine are pretty good, especially since they're typical food crazy Labs, but an open treat bag is an open invitation in their eyes! They don't steal food generally, won't touch the little old dogs dinner bowl while she's eating it, and if their dinner drops on the floor while I'm serving it, 9 times out of 10 they will stand there just looking at it
