What To Do If A Dog Off Lead Attacks Your Dog
RubyStar replied to miss shel's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm too scared to walk my dogs where I live now. After being bitten and surrounded by 2 vicious dogs who live in my street when I was walking alone, and after seeing many offlead dogs in my area (most who have no owner in sight!), it has terrified me from walking them, so I drive them to my parents place where I feel safer walking them. It's even got me terrified now to walk on my own where I live! :D I'd carry something nice and pointy with you on your walks if it makes you feel safer. I keep wondering what I can carry in my handbag when I'm walking down my street to the train each morning and afternoon, in case I get bailed up by these dogs (or others) again! It's very scary, and shouldn't happen if owners just kept their bloody dogs onlead or contained within their property! -
Yep, Masons Mom and I are going Are you??

Persist with it MM. A day before our last obedience trial, our neighbour’s roof was being tiled with about 5 beefy guys standing on the roof causing my bc to constantly bark at them. All I did for that session was reward focus in a sit position. Must have worked…he got 199 in his next trial. Showoff :D (and he deserved every bit of that 199!)

That is what the guru told me to do, and I have to say it works! She said Ruby finds heeling fun (when I thought she was bored to tears of it!) and that by stopping the game and stepping away when she looks away, she loses her chance for earning rewards. When they look back, start the game again and get a reward in when they commit back to you. She also said you don't have to wait for them to get back into seated heel position next to you each time, just get moving again straight away as all you're after is focus (I was asked about this method the other day and for the life of me couldn't remember the whys of it, but it just came back to me ) The other guru with the red kids also taught me that if your dog just plain doesn't want to focus/play the game, put them away for a few minutes. Rinse and repeat, they soon learn if they don't pay attention they don't get to stay out and play!

Kyzer doesn't have issues, what are you talking about? It's completely normal to give someone a tongue kiss in their mouth, roll in their lap, then growl at them Poor little K. I do think that coat would look SMASHING on him, though

So give us a rundown of what's in your loot?

One day I want to have a bit of a retriever collection. So when's your first Lab coming along? -

Pffffft who'd go an Aussie if you could have a beagle???? :p Why either when you could have another retriever! I'd go an Aussie because I want to :p And one day I will have the best of ALL worlds, my retrievers, an Aussie, AND a Beagle if council will let me The size of Beagles is the only downside for me, I like my dogs bigger, hence deciding on the Aussie over the Beagle, but I do so love the Beagles (those ears :D) that they will appear in my life along the way somewhere ;) -

A beagle is on my wishlist for someday for obedience and agility It would have been my next dog (whenever that will be!) if I hadn't have fallen in love with another breed What could be better than a beagle?? If I wanted a higher drive dog I don't think I would go with a BC. A Toller, working line GSD, Malinois, Dobie, would all be a preference for me before a BC. A BC isn't for me, either. My next dog I hope to get an Aussie :D -

It's not just not having a dog who isn't ready, the handler is pretty dopey so she needs work on how to handle even an experienced dog!

What clubs are these? ie. are they going to be at K9? Nope agility is at Lumen Christi and obidience is at Carine. Lumen Christi is good, nice and close. Not Carine, though! Ick!! But seeing it's obedience, I may do the arvo trial there (sleepin!!)

And knowing me, not having anything better to do, I will head along for something to do! I like walking the courses  How sad does that make me? No wait, don't answer that Especially you AP :D

I've never trialled at northern suburbs before, I opted out of it last year as it was too far and plus I was trying to get things with Ruby together a bit more. Most I had travelled was Midland, until I went to Bunbury earlier, but Ptolomy did the driving so not sure if I can count that one

Sounds like a great trialling weekend! Shame I'm nowhere near ready for the agility side of things Edit: the only bad part about it is they aren't at K9! Travel involved for these which I am never keen on

I shall have to look it up tonight, unless someone else with their Canine News handy can do so for you...
-
I think there are a couple coming up. So that's 3 that I can think of in the first half of the year.
-
Millie will be staying home
-
Yes I most likely will be entering the Midland one, but if it's an AM and a PM trial, I may only opt for one.
-
From my understanding, if you get your 3 passes before the closing date, you need to contact the trial secretary and be moved up if you don't wish to scratch your dog, as you can't enter a trial of a class you have your 3 passes in unless the closing date has passed. If closing date has passed and you have your 3 passes, you can run that class and use it as a freebie round
