I'll end up being crazy dog lady! That's great you found a man willing to let you spend most of your time with animals, where do I find me one like that?? But what about 2 fox terriers?! Imagine how fun it will be trying to water the plants if you had two! I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself! Now you've got an agility or jumping trial to aim for I thought Rosie was adorable when we swapped dogs that one time in class! Not sure how I got so into it. I think Ptolomy had something to do with it Before I knew who she was I would watch her working her red kids after class in awe and said to myself I want to do that one day I was never allowed the Lab I had wanted since I was a kid but finally my mum gave in one day (out of the blue too mind you, I had stopped nagging long ago and one day she said ok you can get your Lab!) so when I finally got her that was when the passion started. I think I will be training and trialling dogs until I'm an old lady... I just hope that I get better by then

Sorry Zug Zug, I don't know the answer I can see your logic and I agree, train it in as many places as possible, but just make sure they are safe places. The park isn't one I would personally do extended out of sight stays at. What about at club? Can you get a few people together with trustworthy dogs and do a far away out of sight stay with them?

Bouncer from Neighbours! No, not really But he was a Lab I've never really thought about it to be honest, now I'm gonna rack my brain!

I hear ya! Millie screamed over that a-frame so fast her nails scratched it all the way down and she flew off the bottom Ruby on the other hand is slower, but more controlled! I have always loved dogs but I never thought I'd get my Lab/s and never thought I'd be into doggy sports. Now it's taking over my life and hell I'm gonna let it, it makes me happy Makes me very tired as I get home late most nights, but gives me purpose I guess But what about 2 fox terriers?!

Calming Down After First Heat
RubyStar replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My Lab settled down hugely after her first season at 9 months. Not only was she more affectionate and sooky while in season (which is weird for her! she likes her space), she turned into a well behaved young lady. Craziness slowly crept back though But on the whole, she was much calmer. Any future females I have I will be letting them have one or two seasons for this reason. Both my girls are desexed now. -
People Who Train In Agility
RubyStar replied to GoldenGirl85's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've just started too, so would be interested in hearing other people's responses. So far, the only things I have named is "tunnel" for tunnel (duh!) and "over" for jumps. I think I've heard people use "walk" or "walk it" for the dogwalk and some I think even throw in a "contact" command. I've also heard "bang bang" for seesaw because they've taught it as a game, make it go bang as they step on it so they aren't scared of it and get huge rewards! -
Sounds like a plan, except for this part! Unless you have someone else with you to watch your dog. I don't think I could trust walking to the other side of the park and hiding when a strange dog could come round the corner at any second!

I've been a member of Southern River for 3 years and highly recommend it There are quite a few members on here that are members of that club too. It's a positive training club, so flat collars, no chokers, bring lots of treats and toys if he is toy orientated. You'll have to wait until a couple of weeks after the vaccination I believe. I think the DogsWest rule is a dog must be no younger than 3 months to enter their grounds, and SRAODC train there.

So many horsey people! I think I've ridden a horse only twice in my life. First time I fell off, second time the horse took me under a low tree and it scraped my back something cronic Would have loved to learn how to ride but just wasn't something on the cards growing up! Would still love to go for a ride, but scared I still don't know how to do it

The thing is, they're not that short on Sat or Sun I hear, just Thurs/Fri but I work so can't help out then I'll probably just be running boards back and forth from ring to office and bringing drinks for judges and stewards
-
I told them I could help out and they go and put me down for all day Saturday and all day Sunday!
-
I'll be there Friday and Saturday. I'm stewarding Friday night. Candice, do you wanna give stewarding a go with me? They are short on help I hear. You can ask to be something easy like lead steward or backup timer. Let me know and I will pass on your details.

A dog did have a grumble at Ruby as we were heading towards the ring for our turn. I need to start taking notice of more things around me so I don't put Ruby into that situation again. But I do wish people would not sit so close to the rings with their dogs as competitors are trying to get to the gate, and usually with the lead up to the gate, you are focused on your dog having them focused on you as it's part of a good ring entry in my opinion. If you insist on watching close up, keep your dogs in the car. But anyway, apart from the grumble, I don't think it affected Ruby's performance, she just wasn't into it all morning so I didn't hold high hopes from the start.

Naaahh!!! Don't be too nervous. Ruby's debut in novice obedience without the lead as my backup was at the state trial and she surprised me by blitzing the heelwork!!! I thought for sure she'd run off Ruby was fine, just not in the mood to work I guess! I felt a bit off yesterday so perhaps she was feeding off me? Dunno

I think you did just commit to being official cookie baker

Actually I could take him and I live closer .... Living closer ain't gonna matter when she's dead I'm not about to fight for Mason, but my home is open for him if he ever needed it, it's all I'm saying!

You're in the Nationals aren't you? Or coming to watch? I was going to try and make some real white choc and macadamia bickies (ie not use cocoa like I did since I was cooking so late ) I could always make a few without macadamias Although won't guarantee taste since I have to play with the recipe a bit to figure out substitutions for cocoa! Didn't the double choc ones have white chocolate bits too? I am coming to steward, so save me some without macadamias!!!

What you got against obedience people! You are one on the odd occasion Caramel slice, mmmmm... I have such a bad sweet tooth! Good luck Ptolomy and Bedazzled!!!!

Jenna could end up thrown over the pound fence on the way home on Friday, might mean a slight detour but if today was anything to go by I may have blown my dough entering her in the States and National. Hope your reading this Jenna! Throw her over my fence thanks... Hey does that mean you would be willing to adopt her if anything ever happened to me? My son sidestepped this question pretty quickly when I asked him. I wonder why! I often wonder what would happen to my dog if something happened to hubby and I as we have no family over here to take Mason on, its a scary thought actually If Katie wont take her then I will I will take Mason in a heartbeat if he had nowhere to go

That's disappointing. I was wondering how Snazz and I'd go in a day trial. I slept in this morning instead after 2 nights of ADAA I know..very slack I hate day trials... so does Ruby I almost stayed in bed this morning myself... perhaps I should have
