  1. Can I ask a silly obedience newb question? If you do something like trip over (very likely if you are as un-co as me) does that d/q you? Do you lose points? I can just imagine if I ever get Daisy to trialling stage that is exactly something I would do Do you mean trip over as in @ss over tit? They might give you extra points for entertainment Sorry, don't have a proper answer for you
  2. That is very interesting! We've got our last leg to go... is the last the hardest to get?
  3. I just tripped over the dog entering the figure 8 in our first CCD trial
  4. Jealous here, too! When do we get another Sue seminar in Perth?!?!
  5. Congrats, Seita! I actually pulled my set out tonight too, haven't done much lately with it. I set the video camera up so will post a link once I get it up on youtube. I'm currently working metal and wood together, and leather separate as we've only done a little bit on leather so far. Next time, I might combine the whole set and see how we go
  6. This I wanna see and how did you teach it?!
  7. Brilliant! Can't see my Labradors ever doing that
  8. I'm trying this with Millie but she's being a little bugger not offering me anything further than licking it!
  9. I've taught Ruby to close the door (targeting with her paw); to go into a hula hoop, turn and sit (beginning of her box work for obedience - required a bit of luring at the start but phased that out pretty quickly); to put both front paws onto a small stool (to begin on her back end awareness training); to "take a bow"; that's all I can think of right now
  10. I would like to do many dog sports at once but my only restriction is time I'm doing obedience with both my girls (I'm one of those who finds it fun, not a chore!), but additionally, I'm doing retrieving with Ruby and thinking of starting agility with Millie. My only personal concern for doing agility with obedience is I am worried about wrecking any heeling I've worked hard on on the left when I have to introduce the right for agility. But that is a fault with my training skills, not the dog's ability to know the difference as I'm sure they would if their mum wasn't such a dufus
  11. Their current weight But your 5kg Labrador won't stay 5kg for long!! So I wouldn't go buying a 6 month supply of the small dog versions! For a breed who grows so quickly, I would personally work your doses month to month appropriate for its weight at that stage, instead of stocking up on a certain product for a certain weight range right now.
  12. WOW!! That was incredible to watch! I wanna learn more about the training in drive stuff but don't really know where to start Seeing how well you're doing makes me wanna try another approach with Ruby! Though we had a good short session at the park today, I still can't maintain focus as long as you were getting as everything is always so much more interesting. Mine lasts in 10 seconds bursts if I'm lucky She really struggles with not being distracted by outside things. I can see her trying so hard sometimes but the temptation to look away is just too strong an urge :nahnah: I saw that, was something in particular happening to make him do that? I missed it then
  13. Sentinal Spectrum covers fleas as well. Interceptor is the one that doesn't I believe. So you can dump the separate flea treatment and save $!
  14. Clipper World's prices seem cheap as well, but do they charge shipping fees? If their shipping is free or very, very small, then they are quite comparable to Pet Products on the Web
  15. After posting ^ about poor packaging and slow postage I received my order within 3 days by registered post and no squashed box. Very happy! Mine took a bit longer to arrive, and one box was squashed while the other wasn't. But as long as the product is ok I don't care about the box so much in this instance
  16. So cute Aussies are starting to grow on me (haven't had a lot of exposure to them prior to DOL!) with my particular fave being the black tri But I don't know the first thing about them so will just admire from afar... especially when you post such cute puppy photos!
  17. Really? I really need to go read my rules then I was convinced that you only return to the dog in CCD (obviously no dumbell there though), and then it's always a finish (return to heel) for higher levels. Off to read me thinks! The video is great! She does a nice retrieve and has great focus on you
  18. With Ruby, I lured her into the box (we're using a hula hoop for starters) then I waited her out to offer the behaviour. She now happily goes into the hoop and turns and sits, but now I'm just working on sending her from greater distances to run with a bit of enthusiasm to it. I've found the best way of getting that speed from a dog who is pretty lazy (tho you guys won't have this trouble with BC's! ) is once she hits the box, click then throw a treat far away from the box so she's driving out to the treat, and then drives back to the box in anticipation of the next treat. But I am finding I have to stand between the box and where I throw the treat to make this work, so I'm trying to find ways I can send her to the box from where I am standing and get her driving out, right now when I do that she gets halfway there and stands and looks at me Suggestions welcome Or constructive criticisms on the way I'm currently doing it if you can see it causing us longterm problems
  19. I often cop mouthfuls of Labrador hair and I'm definitely not nipping at their necks! Damned moulters
  20. Hi, see that's been my attitude so far - lots of people have said "Oh, it's just play" but when they rip pieces of fur off one another, I feel terrible for letting it happen I'm no expert or trainer, just a Labrador mum - but if they're at the stage where they're ripping fur out of each other, I'd step in too. They are still young so I wouldn't worry too much if they show love for each other in everything else they do
  21. My 2 Labs play much like you mentioned - nipping at each other's faces and necks, then it gets a little wilder. If they do it in the house I put an end to it or shove them outside to finish up, but the act of putting them out to play where it's more appropriate behaviour usually stops the play in its tracks as they want to be inside to do it I rarely step in due to it being too rough, I just leave them to it (outside) to sort it out, but it isn't aggressive, just highly excitable Labrador play! When I take them out to the park and they have an offlead run together, they chase each other at the speed of light and topple each other over and sound like they are going to kill each other. I sometimes call them back to get them to stop just because I'd hate to think what others think of the sound!
  22. I haven't read all her book yet, or watched her video properly I remember you being the one recommending her stuff to me!
  23. While we're on the subject of retrieving, can anybody please advise any good dvds/videos that will demonstrate the basics? I'd like to learn the basics with Ruby, with the aim to eventually get my 3rd Lab to train in retrieving from a pup once I've been able to learn a bit. Quite a few years off yet
  24. I can't believe how much fun it is - bloody hard work training and trialling but certainly worth it! Here's how I got started :D Oh wow that is awesome!! Soooo SO jealous! I would LOVE the opportunity to be shown the ropes one on one by someone in the know and have a shot with a dog that knows what it's doing I didn't think you had another dog besides Zig to do retrieving with, and now it makes sense
  25. Way to go TSD! Great news! I have gotten a recent interest in retrieving and can't wait to learn more and watch a real trial! When did you first get involved?
