  1. that's alot of watermelon for one little bunny!
  2. Many thanks Kirty. Marcus is house sitting somewhere else at the moment and he's said I can go to his place if needs be. I hope it doesn't come to that but I appreciate your (and his) kind offer.
  3. There's hardly any breeze here in the valley, nothing to worry about. :(I have a bit of PTSD from black Saturday. I hate the sound of helicopters now. I understand. Sorry you're carrying that burden around.
  4. I'm wondering how SA is going because it's even hotter there today.
  5. Yes I see the watch and acts are being added to now. this morning it was only 2 but now there's 6.
  6. I find this really hard to read. All the symbols overlay each other and it's hard to know what's underneath. I've got friends in the Grampians, Bacchus Marsh, Bendigo, Heathcote and Rubicon. All those areas could be affected with a change in the wind, not to mention where I live in the Yarra Valley. I just wish Saturday would come soon with no loss of life or property before then.
  7. It's even too hot for the blowies today. I'm doing my weekly dog food cook up and usually the flies just about bash the doors down to come in and drive us all crazy but I haven't seen one yet. I suppose that's one good thing about the heat wave.
  8. It's a hound collar. Leather doesn't do great in salt water but if you wash the salt off it afterwards and then oil it it should be OK. I bought several of these collars and have put some in our club raffle. They would fit a greyhound and I had to cut the long tails off them, but they've worn well, the boys have been wearing them for quite a few years now and they still look good. I have a black one and an natural one left if you want to buy one. PM me
  9. My little puppy Neko went crazy last night and the night before, probably from being shut up in the house for most of the time. She felt very hot and was growly and bitey so I picked her up and sprayed her tummy and chest with my cool water, then sat her on my lap with her back against my tummy and we sat in front of the fan. I held her little arms out so she was much like the lemurs who sun themselves and she seemed to love it. She didn't resist at all and it definitely cooled her down.
  10. here you can see Puck's wide buckle collar. See it's quite firm around his neck.
  11. I hope they dont cut the power off. I dont have air con, just a fan so I cannot really keep cool anyway. I also dont have a mobile phone and my land line wont work if the power's cut, so if they do the emergency fire warning I wont get it. If they cut the power all I can do is load the dogs into the car and start driving with the aircon on. I have a full tank, I should get 1000ks with that.
  12. I'm dreading today and tomorrow. My house is still hot, yesterday it got to 34.5 inside my house so I expect it will be hotter today. I spent all day sitting inside with the radio on listening for emergency warnings and checking the website and then going outside looking for smoke. It's going to be so much worse today because everything's been baking in the sun for the last 2 days.
  13. Does she wear a wide whippet collar? They are usually worn tighter than normal thin leather collars and my boys who play pretty rough have never slipped them.
  14. I've just stuck my t shirt under the tap and put it back on. I wont win any wet t shirt competititions though.
  15. aww thankyou. hard to make a whippet or IG look ugly though
  16. My dogs are a bit shpeshal, they also love the pods when we have fresh peas, we take the peas out and give them the pods and they'll spend hours on that. They don't mind banana skins either, and went crazy over bean shoots the other day, bloody weirdos!!! My dogs eat banana skins too, they love them when they go all black and revolting.
  17. Poor darling. I hope she can get through it. Did she kill the snake?
  18. mine eat the watermelon and skins all the time, also cantaloupe (rockmelon) skins. They sometimes let them dry in the sun and then crunch them up.
  19. What an awful situation for her and you. I hope she can recover. What breed is your girl?
  20. Mary Lowe, a renowned whippet breeder showed this way in her book and it worked for me. Try standing in a similar way to a farrier trimming a horses' hooves. have the dog facing one way and you stand facing his tail, then pick up his front foot, ugh, I'm not explaining it well. Like this. My link Also, although it's slower, try walking him on abrasive surfaces like concrete footpaths or gravel roads.
  21. this is my problem now. I have a 15yo, 14yo, 12yo and 2 rising 10. I said to a friend just today I think I need to space a new dog to every 5 years or thereabouts from now on. Good luck in your decision River star.
  22. hellish night, I didn't sleep much, my bedroom was close to 30C all night. It's still almost 28C inside so it didn't cool much and wont take much to heat up again. My funny little whippet Feather jumped off my bed to wriggle under the doona I'd kicked onto the floor and Neko squirmed her way under the bed sheet that I slept on top of. It's so dry here now, I'm dreading the next few days of scorching heat, very reminscent of the lead up to Black Saturday.
