it's 38.6 outside and 32.2 in the coolest part of my house. I'm sitting here with a spray bottle of chilled water that I douse myself with and then sit in front of the fan. I dont have aircon. My poor chicken wants to come in the house, she's standing out there with her wings drooping and panting. She's got plenty of water and shade so please dont tell me I'm mistreating her. I've been giving her chilled fresh corn to eat too. She liked that. Phew! HOT! Damn HOT!!

Des Fegan at Cranbourne for (racing) greyhounds, although he did see my racing whippet. If it's not a greyhound ring and talk to him, he might still see it. Barry Haywood http://nearyouau.com/b679007/0359785174-dr-barry-haywood-cranbourne-south-03-5978-5174.html

My dogs self medicate with several plants that grow at the park and in my garden. Comfrey, wild mustard and clivers are just some. I see them eating other plants I dont know the names of.

Preparing For Next Weeks Severe To Extreme Heat...

when I used to have to leave my dogs in the hot weather I'd just water alot under a shady tree or bush so they could dig down to the cool damp soil. They have a wading pool too although not all of them use it. We're in for a hot few days now and I've just gone round and filled up the bird bath and a shallow bowl on the ground for any little wild critters that might come around. Dont forget them too. -
it's a scary rate of growth isn't it, 5 kgs in 3 weeks! She is very cute and this is the place to bombard us with puppy pictures, you wont get any complaints, unless it's to ask for more photos, so post away! post away! keep 'em coming!

I often leave mine in the car on a cool day, and they love it. Sometimes when I get home they dont want to get out of the car. but on hot days they stay at home if I'm going anywhere that they cannot go with me.

years ago Penny whippet got one in her ear and shook her head so much she got a haematoma. I had to treat it very carefully so she didn't end up with a cauliflower ear. One of my old girls got one in her neck when we lived in Qld. I think Tag was really lucky I noticed the lump on his face last night though. It probably would have been inside him by today and required surgery to remove, that's if they would even be able to find the damn thing.

Preparing For Next Weeks Severe To Extreme Heat...

I have an evaporative cooler to give away if anyone wants it. It was given to me but I dont use it. I'm in Vic, it would need to be a pick up only. PM me if you want it. -
Glad he's picking up. Get yourself a bottle for your whelping kit if you intend to breed any more litters. You might not need it but it's handy to have just in case. How about some photos of mum and bubs?

the evaporative coolers need refilling too, they might not have enough water in the reservoir to last while you're not there. Not sure what happens to them when they run dry. -
It's the season for grass seeds. Having a short haired breed this hasn't usually been a problem for my dogs but I got a surprise last night. I noticed Tag seemed to have a lump on his face where his big molars are. I've seen this before in dogs with filthy teeth when they get abcesses, but my dogs teeth are immaculate so I checked it out. I felt up under his lip and felt something sharp. I thought it must be a bone shard but when I managed to pull it out I discovered it was a bloody grass seed working its way into his head! He was such a good boy and didn't struggle or even flinch. It's left a hole and this morning there's still a lump but I'm hoping it will be ok without AB's. I've got some awful grasses growing here now after an agistee brought in hay. It's amazing how much rubbish grass and weeds are spread around the country from bad hay. I was lucky I got this one before it completely disappeared inside him.

You should see her in the flesh! When I pick her up she's all floppy and trusting and relaxed and just gazes up and me or looks out at the world while she's safe in my arms. It sure melts my heart too Yeah I got a shock when I saw it. It's a wonder it doesn't trip her up.
-
Yes, she can alternate them, she's got at least 3 pretty collars now. Whippets and IGs tend to acquire quite a wardrobe after a while, it's those beautiful long slender necks that just invite dressing up

a collaborative effort. A limited slip collar, works the same as the ones I used to make but slightly different design figured out by Marcus. I supplied the leather, he designed and cut it out, and I did the stitching. A teeny tiny shiny little collar for my teeny tiny shiny little dog :D
-
I hope you succeeded! I didn't know about it till now. I suspect I wouldn't see it from here though because I'm still too close to Melb. Many years ago I lived in Gippsland and I remember looking South one night and the sky was glowing, as if I was looking towards a big city, but there was nothing out there but Bass strait. I thought it had to be the remnants/very edge of the Southern lights, it couldn't have been anything else, it took up the whole horizon but didn't have the swirling movement you see, just a glow.

they're lovely photos. I bury the same way, on flowers and plants, I dont like wrapping in synthetic material. I knew a woman who wrapped her GSD in lots of thick black plastic when she buried him. I'd much rather they go back to the earth, not become a putrid soup all sealed up in plastic. I've kept some old cotton sheets, they will be my whippets shrouds when they go. I sure wish I could dig a hole that deep.
-
Well, I've just done the first poo patrol since giving them some yesterday and sure enough, they're all still there completely intact.
-
Oh, I forgot to say they've already had the outer husks removed, so they're the little grey looking ones.
-
 pole dancing wasp  you're so observant to capture that though.
-
 No, she's definitely a bully. The boys are around 18kgs and she's not even 4kgs but they're so gentle with her, such good boys They let her get away with everything. They're like doting big brothers.
-
Look at the little bully. Pick on someone your own size Neko! She must have eventually got tired. This is the first time I can recall seeing her run with her tongue out and I got a shock. Have you ever seen such a big tongue on a little dog? It looks like she's stolen someone's bath towel. It's a whopper!
-
she's certainly not as stoic as a whippet. I'm glad I didn't rush her off to an emergency vet.

does anyone know if sunflower seeds are good for dogs. I bought some thinking I might sprinkle a small amount on their food each day. I know they've got alot of oil in them.
