  1. thanks everyone for the tips. I'll keep trying.
  2. Yes, it is distressing, and my first thought was for the poor fox too. It's still an amazing photo. I've seen eagles here take young ibis chicks from their nest and all the parents and other birds divebombing them in a futile attempt to save the chick. Once the eagle did drop a chick and I went down to where it had fallen in my paddock. It was dead and there was just a small drop on blood on its chest which made me think that its death was quick, but that poor fox, oh dear
  3. thankyou, that sounds good. I dont have a clicker, would a verbal word or sound be as effective if used the same way?
  4. I'm not a show person and I've left it way too long but I'm trying to teach Neko (Italian Greyhound) to stack. She's so wiggly and keen for the bait that she wont keep still. I've put a towel on my dining room table to give her some grip and get her up high. She just wiggles and squirms either away from my body, leaning away, or follows the hand with the bait like a crazy starving ferret. I tried her before and after a meal and her behaviour is the same. I place her front feet for a second but she immediately moves them. I just cannot do it. I'm sure I'm doing a million things wrong but I dont know the right way. If anyone can give me some pointers I'd be grateful.
  5. It's an amazing capture but look at the poor fox screaming, I suspect it wasn't a quick clean death. This thread might be seen more in general or at least the main photos section, rather than tips and tricks although I understand you're saying you have to have a camera with you all the time to capture that brilliant photo. The photo deserves to be seen though, it's incredible. I know a woman who lost an Italian greyhound to an eagle.
  6. awwww is she an old girl? I used to have a cat this colour, I bought her from the Oakleigh market for $1 almost 40 years ago and I was too young to have a car so just carried her all the way home to my mothers house. I love the pot Gussy cat is sitting in too.
  7. I think it's just how dogs play. I wonder if they ask each other why humans dont sniff each others backsides when we meet.
  8. Just wondering if this page is of any help to you. My link
  9. It looks like a (bloodless)massacre with a little lamb thrown in there as well. Where's Jolie? I love all the toys strewn around too.
  10. yes they do, those little growly noises that are like music to me after the way Feather's been all her life. I've never heard her make them until now.
  11. They used to sell exotic animals too. They sold Christian the lion. It might help spread the word not to buy from pet shops, they're pretty high profile.
  12. thanks everyone. Yes DD when they finally realise it can actually be fun, it's the best. :D I thought Feather would go to her grave never knowing what it can be like to just play with another dog. It's such a relief now that they've become buddies as I was concerned for a while that Feather could hurt Neko, but that little puppy has wormed her way into all of our hearts with her charm. When she first came here Feather spent alot of time in her crate, she'd go in there in the hope of avoiding Neko and it's actually where she bit Neko, but now they're cuddled together as I write in an open dog bed by my feet. Feather doesn't feel the need to hide anymore.
  13. It's OK I've used the tablet. She was wormed with syrup when she was at the breeders and smaller but she's over 4 months old now so I'mve changed to tablets. I did it yesterday and she seems fine. Thankyou everyone for your advice though.
  14. It brings tears to my eyes too SM just watching them. Feather's never had a playmate. She will be 12 years old in May so this is a huge turnaround for her. I'm so happy that she now knows what it is to have fun with another dog. For the first time in her life, she has a doggy friend.
  15. I bred Feather and she was mostly hand raised so perhaps was a bit of a mummys girl, I dont know, but for what ever reason she never really learned how to play with her siblings. In fact she was nearly killed by them when she was only about 6 weeks old! The adorable little darlings were such savage fighters two of her sisters gashed her neck, just missing her jugular vein. I suspect it had a profound affect on her and she's always been rather aloof with most dogs. I've recently got a little Italian Greyhound puppy (Neko) and aside from the usual worries about protecting such a tiny puppy from my whippets I was particularly guarded about Feather. Sure enough, all the other whippets were good with her, I just had to make sure they weren't overly rough and didn't trample her in their mad dashes around the yard, but Feather was different. She wanted nothing to do with Neko and seemed to be confused and afraid of her. Feather would give all the right signals that she wanted Neko to leave her alone, but the puppy ignored them. I was constantly taking Neko away, and rescuing Feather from her advances. Finally it became too much for Feather and she bit Neko on her toe. Much squealing and sooking from Neko and it frightened Feather even more, this strange little creature in her face all the time, and then such a carry on. The weeks went by, Neko was undeterred by being bitten but gradually I started seeing a change in Feather. I've tried to protect Feather and Neko from each other as best I can while still allowing a relationship to develop, it's been quite a juggling act too I can tell you. After about 6 weeks Feather would occasionally interact with Neko, but it was only around dinner time and she looked a little too keen to me, as if she thought Neko might be good to eat, so I had to monitor it carefully. After about 7 weeks they would play but Feathers hackles were up and still she was just a bit too keen. We're almost up to 10 weeks now and it makes me so happy to be able to say, they've become friends. I never thought I'd see the day, Feather is old and grey now, and it must have been a steep learning curve for her, but she now enjoys Nekos company, and even seeks her out to play. She's learnt how to moderate her bite and be gentle and is teaching Neko how be play kindly too, she lets her know if Neko's been too hard. So the old and the young are teaching each other and it makes my heart happy.
  16. thanks everyone. Well I've done it so I just hope if she has a sloppy poo she does it outside. We still haven't perfected house training, but we're getting better all the time.
  17. I broke it in half but it came out slightly uneven so I gave her the smaller peice for now and when she's next due I'll give her the bigger one. Maybe with your pup you can give her the 1/4 and then another 1/8th
  18. My puppy weighs 3.6kg and the smallest tablets do a 10kg dog. I can break it up but I've been told to round up to the nearest 5kgs. It means giving her half a tablet. She's so little I worry about overdosing her. Does anyone know if it will be safe for sure to give her a 5kg dose? I'm a worry wart about this tiny girl I know.
  19. I certainly hope my local vet doesn't become a greencross vet.
