Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
Kirislin replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Animals Australia haven't taken the law into their own hands, they've only exposed the failings of the law and self regulation. I did wonder though if those caught will use as their defence that the video was taken without permission and by trespass. -
I'd love to see a photo of her too. Geeze the other ones sound like they were HUGE at birth, over half a kilo!!! She must look very cute. I hope you've taken lots of photos so when you work out how to post them you can bombard us with them.

this has been the law for about 5 years here in Vic for that very reason and it didn't work. Tooradin didn't even try to hide it, there were always bits of dead rabbit just laying around the perimeter of the track and I know within the last 3 year one was photographed on the lure because I saw it and warned the photographer that it was against the law. -

I cant help thinking when they make big loud statements of increasing surveillance, naming all the tracks they'll do it at they're just talking in code saying go somewhere else to do it so we wont catch you. -

Geeze "The Government will also give $3 million to Greyhound Racing Victoria to improve its animal welfare and integrity measures, including surveillance technology to assist with detection and prosecution; and a dedicated steward to inspect and monitor the 15 private trial tracks registered with GRV." It's like they're being rewarded. They shouldn't need Govt. assistance to improve animal welfare and integrity, it should come from them! And monitoring the 15 private trial track??? They'll just do it somewhere else!! (where's Mr rollyeyes when we need him) -

except plenty of innocent people will own those dogs and their progeny. I assume Kirislin means any progeny bred after the date of suspension. Simply put.. its progeny couldn't be registered as it was no longer a registered dog, which I think is actually quite a good idea. yes. :) -

a friend of mine came up with a good idea. She said the trainers should be banned for life as should the dogs in their care at the time and then we thought and their progeny should never be allowed to race either. It might hurt more than just copping a bit of a suspension anyway. -

clearly they're racing the wrong breed. I didn't have to blood my whippets with live kills. They were so easy to train and when I'd go to the greyhound track to run them the greyhound trainers used to look at them going psycho on the end of the lead while waiting their turn and comment that they wish they could get their dogs that keen. I hope they dont start racing whippets professionally though, just saying they're alot keener than greyhounds. -

Hi Krislin, The Victorian Integrity Commissioner is calling for people to come forward - you might want to consider making a submission - and I hope you do. where did you see the call for people to come forward? Perhaps wreckitwhippet can report, every trainer she knows does it. With what evidence ? I'm sure as hell not going down a dirt road at the end of an industrial area with camera in hand to film it. I have already reported dogs not being kept to the required standard, sent photo's (risked being caught getting them). They were living in a paddock without kennels and some others were living in smaller runs, with overgrown grass and no kennels. They are still there living the same way. If the authorities want to stamp out corruption and cruelty, then they need to get off their arses and get out there, as suggested with random inspections. I dont know what evidence you have, I was only going by your first comment on this thread. -

I wondered why some people's faces were blurred out, as if they're innocent and not involved. But they were there with their dogs and participating. I cant stop thinking about the Tooradin footage. I raced my whippets there for 5 years. To think I'd turn up all excited and happy to have an afternoons racing, what fun!! and just an hour or so before that nightmare was being conducted. -

I hope something will happen. They still have to try though and I applaud the people who had the courage to investigate this. I'm sure the GRV knew about it, or certainly individuals in the GRV knew. Now that it's been exposed they're all huffing and puffing about how they have zero tolerance. -

A huge difference. Obviously you dont understand what they actually do in live baiting then. I didn't. Perhaps you should have watched the program, you can still catch it on iView. I worked in the greyhound industry as a professional lure driver and my "boss" the track supervisor told me he was often approached to put a live rabbit on the lure, which he always refused. I'd heard whispers that it still existed but I didn't really imagine how horrific it was. I've driven private trials for Darren McDonald, he was always so quiet and polite to me. I was shocked to watch the program last night, the cruelty and heartlessness of those people. I think alot of people will go down with this, and I hope they do. -

there used to be sign up on the community notice board here offering good homes to roosters. I said to someone how can they be willing to take all these roosters as pets and I was told they were used for greyhound training. -

Wow Tooradin's been closed down. That's where I used to go whippet racing. I knew they had live bunnies kept in a securely locked shed. Penny and Kibah could tell too and would stick their noses against the door and breathe in the smells. You'd always see bits of dead bunny laying around there and occasionally there'd still be one on the lure when I arrived. It was gruesome, but at the time it wasn't illegal to put a freshly killed rabbit on the lure. In fairly recent years that did become illegal though. -

Different Methods Of Sedation?
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
thanks Rappie. The osteopath is pretty good with finding soft tissue problems, I'm sure he cant work out everything but he's pretty amazing. I cannot afford an MRI and I still feel that an ex-ray might at least give him a bigger picture of what is causing Pucks pain. All my vet could suggest was rest and meloxicam, and it isn't helping. I believe there's something wrong with his neck/spine that needs actual fixing and I'm hoping the osteo can do it, or at least ease the problem. I realise it might be ongoing, like my own spine. -

Far out! They are so "human" sometimes it's disturbing, to think of how they're being eradicated, even eaten. When I see photos like this I'm reminded of how alike we are. Wonderful photos and simply fascinating to look upon. -
Different Methods Of Sedation?
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
thanks Rappie and Kirty for explaning the need for a GA. I think I'll have to just go in and insist on it then, because when I asked last time the vet talked me out of it saying I'd really need an MRI, but on thinking about it more I dont think so. I want to know what, if anything is going on with his skeletal spine and take those ex-rays to the osteopath. He will feel if there's any soft tissue injuries, but if he's manipulating Puck I want him to be up to date with his spine. Pucky is 10 now so I'd expect that there might be stuff going on with it. -

He didn't seem willing to try anything but a GA. I think I'll take Puck somewhere else to get him ex-rayed. -
Different Methods Of Sedation?
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No, I never asked at the time, but I asked about using it again when we talked about Puck having an ex-ray and he said it's not suitable for that purpose. -
I'm wondering why my vet wont just lightly sedate my dog for an ex-ray. A couple of months ago Puck started whimpering every now and then so I took him to the vet saying I thought he needed his neck/spine ex-rayed. The vet (not my usual one) talked me out of it because he said Puck would have to have a general. I asked why he couldn't have the light sedation that was given to Kibah and Penny as a relaxant the day they were put down. He said that's only given when they dont want the dog to wake up ever again. At the time it was wonderful for them both. They seemed to have a respite from the pain and it gave me time to love them for a couple of hours before their final injection. Why cant it be used in other non terminal cases and is there some other kind of sedation that would temporarily relax Puck so he can have an ex-ray without giving him a full GA?
