Thanks, yep, I've been communicating with Ping (ASFA president), she's very keen to help but I had to tell her I'm not the one organising it. I dont want to step on toes so I'm just gathering information for myself that I can also share if and when it's asked for.

Yes, they're a long way ahead of Vic. I would imagine it's a very big task to start from scratch. I've put my name down as interested and am trying to get information on certain aspects of coursing so I can read up and learn but it's not proving easy to get. I hope they post photos of the days they have. I'm looking forward to seeing them. NSW has benefitted from the efforts of extremely dedicated workers from the sighthound community and their proximity and relationships with the sighthound folk in Qld. Hopefully as NSW grows in experience, there will a flow on effect to Vic as their neighbouring state. :) Yes, I'm hoping for a flow on effect, I've suggested to Deb Huon that she join the NSW page to hopefully get ideas from how they're going about it. Good to hear. There sure was v popular lure coursing already in Qld. A registered breeder we got our first tibbie from, in the Darling Downs area, used to take her tibs to local lure coursing. With their hare feet, like the sighthounds, some tibs can run like the wind (my sedate girls excepted! :) ) I hope lots of pics get posted, too. Dogs of all kinds look fantastic in full flight. I agree. It lifts your spirits doesn't it.

Kirislin, we have permission from council to have the dogs off lead while they are working in the water, and we have the area of the far beach roped off to stop the public walking through, but that does not always work. Our next water training day at Lilydale Lake will be on Sunday 29th March at 10am. You are welcome to come down and have a look. We are also holding a Giant Dog's Picnic Funday, which will be held at Lilydale Lake from 10.30am - 2.30pm on Sunday 19th April, if you would like to come along. What a great arrangement. I'm assuming other dogs cannot go in the water unless they are with your group. I might have a friend and kids staying with me then, (school hols,) but if not I'll come down with my camera (and no Neko)

Oh wow, are dog allowed to swim in the lake at Lilydale? I wish I'd known about this, I would've gone along for a look see.

thanks for looking, I think he's pretty amazing in action.

It looks like it's going to be a big job to get the clubs off the ground. I know Deb Huon is asking for people who are interested in helping her to give a brief bio of themselves on the facebook page she created. In the hope of helping her get the word out, I'm posting the link here as well. Victorian Lure Coursing Facebook page

These are just private events but we will certainly adhere to the rules once we get to go to any ANKC events. I am looking forward to them getting off the ground.

Lure coursing at Wogdogarama yesterday. Arkey is unstoppable, he loves it. 5F6A8598_1 by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A8559_1 by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A8602_1 by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A8603_1 by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A8604_1 by kirislin, on Flickr

I posted these in the Iggy thread but it's pretty quiet in there and I think this little dog deserves to be seen. Alot of people think Italian Greyhounds are quivering fragile timid little dogs. They are classed as part of the toy group in Australia, but they are true sighthounds and many love to run and chase. Arkey is almost a champion show dog, but his owner doesn't wrap him up in cotton wool, he lets him get out there and do what he wants to do, and Arkey has discovered the thrill of the chase, drag lure racing, and coursing. One day Lure Coursing will be recognised in Victoria and Arkey will excell at it, I have no doubt. Here's some photos of him and all his beautiful, athletic magnificence. :D 5F6A8297_1 by kirislin, on Flickr Crazy psycho running maniac. Dutch (Link Contains Graphic Image)
Kirislin replied to Little Gifts's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
I wouldn't sign her petition. She's an idiot who let her dog roam and caused his death. If he was roaming on a farmers land the farmer has every right to shoot him. Poor Dutch for having an irresponsible owner. -
Although I've never had a Corgi, or even much to do with them, it was my first thought too. Small but robust, the couple I know at the park are very friendly and playful too.

Just another side of back yard breeding. What happens when they dont sell those cute little puppies.
-
Perhaps approach them after they've shown. If it's like Melb Royal they have to stay all day anyway so they might be a bit more relaxed once the stressful part is over.

Neko even has her own font. :happydance:  [NEKO typeface by kirislin, on Flickr

I think it is.

I'm going to an Iggy function this weekend that the breeder holds every year to invite all her puppy buyers back. She makes a calendar to give everyone as well. Since she's met me she uses my photos. Same on her Christmas cards, the last 2 have had Neko on them. She also takes her dogs back if the owners go on holidays. It's a lifelong (and sometimes lifechanging) relationship with her.

Mentone beach. I do live in the country but every now and then I go places. :D
-
Yep, that was definitely her, it was pretty cute actually.. On the Sunday she was fine, I didn't need to medicate her and she had a wonderful day, even having a go at coursing.
-
Thanks T. Yep, she loves it. The lure seems to get dogs that dont normally want to run excited. Even Feather, who's seen the drag lure alot and isn't particularly interested got crazy seeing the coursing lure and Marcus let her go. She bounced after it, got distracted when she saw me and came over for a cuddle and then when the next dog ran and lost sight of the lure she spotted it and took off again and completed the course.

what a cutie she is.

Pedigree Dogs Exposed by Jemima Harrison caused an uproar when it was aired a few years ago.

I love the last one with her hair all swept back in the wind. We also had some lure coursing yesterday. It was our normal whippet fun day but in the afternoon Bindi set up her lure course and a few of our dogs had a go.
