  1. Does anyone use plastic dog beds? How have you found them? I've seen people use them as whelping boxes sometimes too. I found these ones, not sure if there are other brands that people can recommend. Please tell me if you know of others. Perla Pet Beds

  3. as others has said, yes she is. I dont beleive it's particularly a sighthound trait although I think that was said early on by sighthound "experts". It might have been as simple as in the late 1800's some bloke took a series of photographs of running animals. I remember there was a horse and possibly a greyhound. Perhaps the myth came from there. I've seen lots of dogs of all shapes and sizes doing it, even Iggy Mums little Chi/MinPinX does it. Done some searching, this bloke might be responsible for the original belief that it was sighthounds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eadweard_Muybridge#mediaviewer/File:The_Horse_in_Motion.jpg http://www.sciencephoto.com/media/364571/view
  4. great news!!! I bet you're relieved.
  5. Now there's some lateral thinking. Neko's just finished her season.
  6. What a sight to wake up to.
  7. I'm so sorry Kirty. He sounded like such a big presence in a tiny package. He will leave a big hole in your life.
  8. So are funnel webs deadly to dogs? We think my mini foxie had one the other night, kept a really close eye on her all night. no, apparently only to primates, and the little bugs they intend to eat of course
  9. Pudding is such a cute name for her.
  10. Yes, I know someone who was bitten and he said it hurt. I think Puck may have been bitten as he shook his head a few times. I also think when Kibah was alive she was either bitten or instinctively knew she might get bitten and that's why she'd grab and fling it a few times before she ate it. In the beginning, I never encouraged her to catch spiders for me. It was her thing that I made use of. She could recognise the difference between different types of spiders though and wouldn't go near white tails or wolf spiders. I doubt she'd been bitten by all to learn not to touch them. Kibah was a very instinctive little girl though, quite in touch with her inner wolf. She's the only one of my dogs to learn (by herself) the magpie word for fox. When she'd hear them call a warning she'd go charging outside all hackled up and barking. I think Puck's already learnt not to just carry it around as when he saw it the second time yesterday he did the fling thing.
  11. Same state though Kirislin? That was my plan with Quinn too but now I've moved states I'd have to arrange something else if we were to go ahead (big if). yep, same state.
  12. when and if Neko is bred she will whelp at my place but the puppies will be registered under a different prefix, even though I have my own.
  13. I had this problem with mine and it went to Canon to be repaired, luckily for me under warranty. I think I've worked out why so many 50 1.4's fail. When you put the lens away remember to have it on infinity so it's as short as possible. I think if it's wound out it gets knocked and that damages the AF. I've remembered to wind it in now and I've never had the problem again.
  14. I dont think it will be hard to rehome her when she's ready.
  15. Neko does the CPR shove like the Mal, or Sibe, but thankfully not when I'm sleeping, she does it when she wants to play.
  16. I have recently started using my mop to get them outside and I actually tried that with this one first but it wouldn't cooperate so it got the whippet treatment. There is an end to this story now. Later on I went looking for it because Pucky was still looking for it over an hour later. I saw it on the outside of my house and pointed to it. Puck took more notice this time of where I was pointing, he is learning :D and grabbed it off the wall but just chucked it around a few times, then dropped it and just looked at it. Tag shouldered past him, picked it up and ate it, so it might take 2 big whippets to do the job that tiny little Kibah used to do by herself.
  17. My Kibah was the champion when it came to disposing of huntsmen spiders. She passed away in Feb last year and it's been all that time since I've had one in the house. This morning I had cause to start teaching another whippet to take up the challenge and Puck's the most responsive. I showed him where it was (behind the toilet!!) but he kept running into the shower cubicle instead of beside it. He's just not as tuned in as Kibah was. Anyway, when he finally followed my point he saw the spider and grabbed it at which time I took off in case he flung it like Kibah used to. But instead he gently carried it and I could see its legs poking out of his mouth, so I commanded he go outside, which he did but the silly bugger lost it. So now who knows where the angry spider is? He must have a very soft mouth, he could get a job as a gun dog if he can carry spiders without harming them.
  18. Yaaay!! I hope she gets into the right routine for you now.
  19. What a breath of fresh air that was. Loved it.
  20. spotted this. I know HN aren't much liked but thought some might be interested if they want to film from a dogs point of view. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sony-dog-harness.html
  21. thanks for this, I might post it on a few pages I've seen
  22. The breeders are usually the ones that run breed clubs. IMO because they are the ones that stick around year in and year out and they are the ones that have the most information about the breed and in most cases are the most interested about the history of the breed over a long time. I don't believe there are too many breed clubs that are for the betterment of breeders but without the betterment of breeders there is no betterment of the breed. Breeders are the custodians of the breed. In my experience non breeder members are only interested in a minute part of the club and more often or not only want to do what they want to do. Of course there are exceptions. I agree. If the breed is doing well, then breeders will do well too.
