the photo doesn't bother me, if the dog didn't like it he could move. I recall as a small child climbing on to our GSD's back while he was standing and he just gave a shake of his shoulders and tipped me off so I clunked my head on the kitchen door, or the cupboards, not sure which, but I didn't do it again. I'm still as hopeless as an adult, cant sit on a horse if it doesn't want me there.

I'm so glad you've found a minder. It was a good idea to post here and get suggestions of what to do. I know with myself if I'm overwhelmed I cant think straight and would not have known what to do in your situation. I hope you find somewhere suitable very soon and get back to being a family again.

He's a hairy little dude. Like a baby Chewbacca

I like the sound of that club. Thanks! I think I'd like the future IG club to also encourage reporting of health issues and keep a data base of them. That might not be popular. I'd love something like the whippet archives that people all round the world can contribute to and access. Have a rescue service. Have sporting and fun activities.... racing comes to mind :D and lastly and most importantly, be for the betterment of the breed, not the betterment of breeders.

hoping for slightly more informed answers. Some breeders are trying to form an Italian Greyhound club and they have to have a mission statement (I think) some kind of statement of purpose. As I'm not a member of any dog breed club I was wondering what they do.
-
I'm wondering just what is the purpose of a breed club? That's all.

Missing Rescue Dog - Update :(
Kirislin replied to MavericksMission's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh no. This is so sad, poor little girl would've been so frightened and confused and then for it to end after days like that. -
No, I definitely wasn't suggesting Jed would keep one, I wrote the comment before she posted, but it is important to know who you're leaving them with and that it's clearly understood you'll be covering costs, and be wanting them back. Good luck I hope things are working out for you.

and here am I thinking, why would anyone make a dog eat its own collar?

I took her with me today and gave the boys a bit of a rest. She only seems to get "active" in the afternoons. I'm hoping tomorrow will be the last day of it.

Or perhaps rethinking leaving their dogs in kennels in urban fringes at the height of the Australian bush fire season? After all, ultimately who is responsible for the safety of my dogs. IMO it's me. Evacuating a kennel is logistically extremely challenging. Getting dogs and cats out is difficult enough. Having somewhere to take them is the other big ask. There are risks associated with transporting and relocating pets, particularly in emergency situations where volunteers with varying degrees of skill and judgement must be used. You want a cast iron evacuation plan? Then be prepared to pay a hefty premium for it. It won't come cheap to the kennel owners. I'd like to see people not vilifying the kennel owners for what was, in hindsight, an error of judgement. They have lost everything. They thought they'd be safe staying. They were wrong. That is a situation that has confronted many many people confronted by bush fires in this country and my guess is they wont be the last. Sitting in judgement on the internet without full possession of the facts is what I expect on social media. That doesn't make it right. It certainly is not compassionate, nor helpful to those who have suffered the loss of their pets. Mourn what has happened, hope that other kennel owners learn from this tragedy and cut these poor buggers some slack. There will be a time to ask questions and gather facts but now it's all too raw. Have a heart for pity's sake. They are suffering enough. I have seen zero evidence to suggest that they didn't give a damn about the animals in their care. Yes, thankyou HD.

I'm glad you're at least getting some ideas. If you can find someone to temporarily care for them, sending them interstate by road might not be that much, not sure, I haven't investigated it myself. If you do get them fostered one thing you need to be careful of is make sure it's clear in writing that whoever cares for them is only doing it temporarily, you are not giving them away. That's actually how I came to find this forum years ago. There was a big campaign to "get Blossom back" A person had left her dog with a neighbour I think, but when she asked for her back the neighbour refused. I think it went to court and the neighbour won.

It wont be like this for a fortnight. She's only going to "stand" for about 4 days. At the moment they're all out and calm. If they get frisky again, I can crate her. I have also had an offer from a friend to take the boys for a couple of days if needs be. As far as breeding her, it's not up to me. I have her on breeders terms, I was aware of that when I took her. Tags amorous behaviour certainly took me by surprise, but now that I've gotten over that I think I'll be able to manage it, I just wasn't expecting it, that's all.

Not your fault, I didn't mean that. Last night I was watching the news and without warning they flashed up a photo that was distressing to see. I wont say what it was, anyone who watched 9 news at 5pm probably knows what I'm talking about. Maybe I just need to harden up.

I wish I hadn't read the first few lines of the description of the fires, I wont repeat it here.
-
luckily for me, at the moment Tag is OK if she's not wafting it under his nose. He's quite relaxed here beside me while she's in the other room.
-
she's crated at the moment.

I've seen it happen before and I might not be as concerned about these 2 if there wasn't such a size difference. I have visions of him running around with a tiny little dog impaled on the end of his penis.

I have 2 male whippets who were neutered before they were 12 months old, almost 10 years ago now. Neko is my little Italian greyhound bitch who is being kept intact for now while being shown, and her breeder plans on her having a litter sometime in the next couple of years. She's already had one season and my boys were fantastic, showing no interest in her at all, but this season is a different story! She just reached day 12 of her 2nd season yesterday and in the afternoon started waving her rear under Tags nose. Well, it's triggered those primal instincts that males have, whether neutered or not!! Now I've got a love sick boy on my hands and Puck is starting to show a bit of interest too, probably from watching Tag carry on. The last thing I want is an 18kg male mating with a 4.5kg female. She wont have puppies from the mating but she might be split in 2. I wasn't prepared for this. I've crated Neko for now and I'll be happy for the next few days to pass quickly.

I just dont know when it will be. I dont want her to be too old before she has her first litter but I dont know if there's any suitable males around. There's a distinct lack of fresh genes in Aus.
-
Just seen there's a go fund me page for the same kennels. I dont know who set it up.
-
I'm not sure this page is still taking money. When I first looked there was an email address for paypal but it might be gone now. I did notice early on that any comments suggesting it might not be a good idea to donate to it were quickly removed.

My sister did this too with a kelpie x. The dog was in a shady place and all the shop keepers knew her - but she stayed there for hours because my sister forgot. I've forgotten that I didn't take the car and walked to the car park where it wasn't - or that I did take the car and I've gone home on the bus. Same with the treadley and the bus. When my mum has something for me to take home - I have to attach my keys to it so I can't leave it behind. I think with the baby - maybe putting the work security pass or handbag or briefcase with the baby seat might help. Ie you can't get those things without reaching around the baby seat - you might notice the baby in there? I do this too, it's a good idea I reckon

geeze, sounds like a crappy situation alright. I cant help but I think more people would see this if it was in General rather than Off Topic. Good luck.

She's going through her 2nd season right now. A very good chance of her having puppies, when Marcus can find a suitable sire, and who knows what colours she'll give us? No doubt, I'll be posting lots of photos. :D
