  1. I think in worrying about him I'd stopped thinking clearly. If someone else wrote about a problem like this they are exactly the vets I'd be suggesting!! I've taken whippets to both of them in the past. Thanks for jolting me into the present.
  2. He likes the wheat bag, good suggestion Perse. Puck and the wheat bag by kirislin, on Flickr I'm reluctant to go to a chiro without xrays DM
  3. Off to read the instructions on the wheat bag right now!!
  4. I'm so glad you've said this. It's what I've started thinking too, although I also wondered if the neck injury was caused by shaking his head if he's had sore ears. But to be honest, I haven't noticed alot of head shaking..until I started putting the drops in. What does the magnesium/calcium do and where do I get it? I've got rescue remedy and lavender oil and was just given a wheat bag for Christmas!
  5. I've been trying to massage him, but I dont really know what I'm doing. He's on meloxicam now, liquid I had left over from his mum Penny. I'm reluctant to take him to a chiro without x-rays but the vet clearly stated he doesn't like chiros as they can do more damage than good, which I agree with if they didn't know the problem which is why I wanted the xrays in the first place Actually, I dont think I will take him to a chiro, I'd rather he see the osteopath I recently took Neko and Feather to, but he's injured his hand and is off work. I wish I knew when he will be able to return to work. He was very gentle and careful with them and I think he'd be safer than a chiro, but I still think xrays might give him information. I wish I'd just insisted on him doing them yesterday but at the time he said Puck would need a general and that combined with the xrays would have been close to $400 so I decided to leave it for now. It was only when I got home and started trying to put the drops in I realised I'm just making his neck worse.
  6. I tried to stop him, and he realises himself that it's going to hurt, so he tried to do it carefully but he still hurt himself and cried, I suppose it would be like telling us to stop blinking, you just cant do it.
  7. On Boxing day I took Puck to the vet (yes expensive after hours ) because I thought he'd perforated something by eating raw turkey legs bones. Before I rang the vet I watched him doing the prayer posture, which incidentally he does alot as a behaviour, but he was whimpering as well and that's what had me concerned. The vet just gave him a meloxicam injection and sent us home. Well Puck didn't get any better but I came to realise it wasn't his gut that is hurting, it's his neck. Every time he shakes his head he cries or if he jumps off the bed (which I'm trying to stop) he cries. I also observed his neck muscles trembling and the hair standing stiff on end on part of his neck, and it wasn't his hackles up. So I took him back to the vets yesterday and asked for an x-ray to be done of his neck so that if I take him to an osteopath or chiropractor I can show them. The vet talked me out of it and said it wont tell me anything and I'd really need an MRI or some other test, cant remember what it's called, where they inject the dye. It would have to be done at a specialist vet and I dont have that kind of money. While there he examined Pucks ears, took a swab and determined he has a yeast infection. I've now got 2 lots of drops I'm supposed to put in his ears twice a day, which I can easily manage as he's very compliant with things like that. The problem is he naturally wants to shake his head to get the drops out and then screams in agony because it hurts his neck. I'm worried he's going to damage his neck even more! It's already cost me just under $300 and all I've come away with is ear drops that are hurting his neck and possibly causing more damage to it. Any suggestions as to my next move? Something that doesn't cost a fortune.
  8. can you get a video of him doing his behaviours at home just in case he doesn't act the same at her place?
  9. I'm so glad I asked about shoes, thankyou all. I have 2 pairs of cheapies for now, one of which I might still return, not sure. I'll keep the others, they're terrific, but I'll keep my eye out for some of the brands mentioned and definitely look for the sales. I'm showing Neko today that's why I needed them quickly as I still have a bandaid on my heel from the last pair I wore over a week ago for about 20 minutes! Thankyou Meggie. Lately she's had some bad luck just before shows, being trodden on by my mare just 3 days before the Royal, (although she still won her class ) then being stung by an ant just minutes before she went in the ring so she bunny hopped around the ring poor baby. She's also had some kind of issue with her lower back, probably from being pummelled by her boisterous brother as a puppy and I've spent a small fortune trying to have it diagnosed and treated. I think it's starting to come good now, although I'm noticing something else seems amiss, so we will see how she goes today.
  10. Yes, that happened to Neko a few months ago. I didn't see what stung her that time, I'm guessing a bee or wasp but I'd also guess she snapped at it and got stung on the face. Because I've seen it before I didn't panic, just watched her closely for signs of it worsening and giving her breathing problems and I once again gave her some polaramine, and of course, took photos. With this last sting just her tiny foot swelled up, but it's gone down now.
  11. Poor Neko got stung by a bad ol' bee! She came whimpering to me and I did the wrong thing, with my poor eyesight I thought it was a prickle and pulled it out, probably squeezing more poison into her. She cried for quite a while, it must have stung like crazy. I put her foot in iced water and gave her a tiny fragment of polaramine, not sure if anything helped. 5F6A6927t by kirislin, on Flickr
  12. Oh that's a relief, I thought mum might be Ess.
  13. Just the one little puppy? The colour is stunning looks a bit weimaranerish at this age. I think I can guess who mum is.
  14. I agree but I just felt that wearing crocs into the ring was disrespectful to everyone, including the dogs!! They're just too scruffy, even though I wear them most of the time. Anyway, I've been out today and bought 3 pairs of shoes. I'd intended to go to Eastland and visit Athletes foot but didn't get that far, the thought of the Christmas crowds put me off. Bought some homy peds from a chemist and 2 el cheapo pairs from Kmart which might need some inner soles added, not sure, I'll see how they go. At least I'll feel like I've made a bit of an effort and hopefully they'll be comfy enough that I can show my little girl off to her best advantage.
  15. I do love a black and tan kelpie. Years ago when I was active and riding horses I thought about getting a kelpie to run along side me. That smile is pretty damn cute too.
  16. dont worry, found other threads on the same subject.
  17. Is it OK to show bitches in season or is it considered poor form?
  18. this is the style, or something very similar, I saw a few women wearing yesterday and thought they looked good, practical, and comfy. Just what I want. I looked online but cannot see anything about their price. Can you remember what they cost, although I would imagine they've gone up a bit since you bought yours.
  19. I'm not a show person but I think my puppy Neko will go better for me than she does with her breeder, even though he's a really good handler so much as I'm not keen I have to give it a go. What I found yesterday was that I need comfy shoes so I can move without pain. I've got really big wide feet and it's difficult to find comfy shoes. I seem to live in crocs but they're not very nice in the show ring. I didn't wear them in the ring yesterday but the shoes I did wear hurt like hell. I need something that's as wide and comfy as crocs but looks decent enough to wear in the ring. Any suggestions?
  20. What a wonderful story and thankyou for your kind open heart to take this old boy in that no one else wanted. He can live his days out now being cared for and loved.
  21. gorgeous! loved them and I got a giggle too.
  22. some people are really aggressive and just cruising for trouble and it sounds like you copped some. Possibly drunk, drugged or both and from your description it's lucky you weren't assaulted. I've had run ins with people like this and it doesn't matter what you say, it makes it worse.
  23. I've watched this youtube video about it. Not from the OP, it's a US based company. It might be good if the OP made one too to show and explain the procedure.
