  1. Ah yes, it makes sense now. My brother has a slide on and the top pops up where the bed is so yours looked similar inside.
  2. Oh yes, it was cold over the weekend! I spent Thursday night in Uralls - such a beautiful town - and woke to 3 degrees on Friday morning. Yesterday my friend at Red Range near Glen Innes posted that the morning temp feels like was -16! It looks like you had a great weekend and your camper looks very cosy. Is it a slide-on?
  3. The vets always send them off with those e-collars or cones and I have found that most don't need them! Even my super sensitive scratchy little Cav, that had a cyst removed from her eye lid rim recently, didn't touch it. Hopefully you get her eating with some warm BBQ chicken. Of course, you will have them all lined up for some! Often just popping a piece into their mouths gets their appetite going.
  4. I live in a rural area and my vet has 10% off dental Mondays and 10% off desexing Wednesdays. They have a vet that only comes in those days to do those things. It certainly helps keep the costs down and it would appear there costs are pretty reasonable as well.
  5. Google 'fear periods in dogs" and it might help you. My Cavalier (and myself) had a bad scare from a child at some markets when she was about 12 months old. Ever since then she has been very wary of kids and recently we were at a venue where some kids were running around, screaming. My poor little dog started growling and we quickly left.
  6. My male cattle dog pup did this for quite a while. He was probably about 10 months old before he outgrew it. How old is your pup?
  7. I used to be a microchip implanter and had to enter my own records on the database and give the new owners a copy of the paperwork. Once I found a chip on the floor so obviously I had stuffed that one up and had to redo that kitten. Kittens are hard to do as the skin where it goes is quite thick and difficult to pierce and puppies often scream when they get there's. I gave it up after a couple of years as I hated putting that big needle into those poor little things. @Dashiehopefully you can get it sorted as per the advice above.

  9. As you're in NSW you can take down your proof of ownership (receipt, messages etc) and get the local Council to help you change ownership. Have you checked that you have the correct microchip number first? In regards to the second part, you can contact Dogs NSW if that is who they are registered with but it is possible that the breeder is still awaiting registration papers so unable to forward them on.
  10. I've had a dog and a cat lose an eye. In both instances they never looked back. The next day both were more relaxed and playful than they had been for quite some time. Eye problems are very painful, as I'm sure you know, and dogs are very stoic. No prosthetic as their appearance didn't bother me and the fur grows back very quickly. My first cattle dog was totally blind (and deaf) and she still lead a good life. When we went up to the off lead area, she was onlead, but if I managed to drop her lead she was off! They adapt very well.
  11. I have one and have used it on my dogs but it does take a little while to grind them down. And beware of breathing in the dust - I put a fan on to blow it away from us both.
  12. Some of these posts have reminded me what my last cattle dog was like. We would go for long bush walks, he would have a 20 minute 'power nap' and be ready to go again! Fortunately he was also very happy to just be near me and would settle if I did.
  13. To do scent work at home you use boxes and other objects. Plenty of videos on youtube that will give you ideas. Good luck!
  14. I think you need to ask your vet for an itemised quote and explain that you are worried you will be unable to complete the dog's course of treatments due to possible financial difficulty.
  15. Working breeds need mental stimulation and while you're providing plenty of things for him to do, training is what will tire him the most. Teaching tricks, obedience and something like scent training should help. This link might give you some ideas. I love the shell game idea! https://www.puppyleaks.com/more-mental-stimulation/
  16. Me too, used quite a few off label products when I was cat breeding. The most memorable being a product to get rid of fur mites that one of the cats picked up at a cat show. These days we have great spot on products but nothing back in the 90s.
  17. The poor Cavs look so frightened. I wonder if there is an update on the dogs. Everything crossed they get returned quickly.
  18. Having taught in TAFE for way too many years, funding is the struggle. Teachers want to teach quality but for anyone above teacher level it is all about results and funding. It was very dis-heartening for long time teaching staff who started with quality teaching (plenty of hours and resources) and quality outcomes.
  19. I've taken mine out and about from 8 weeks, attended puppy pre-school, and gone to friends' homes with them as pups. From about a week after the 2nd vaccination I start to walk them for short periods around busy areas, eg ferry wharves, where there is a lot of traffic and so on. At this stage I also start them on different surfaces eg, jetties, sand, over the rocks at the beach and so on.
  20. Mine follow me outside and I throw it over the gate as I am about to get in the car! I have a doggy door so they can get back in the house if they want. You have to be really organised and give it just as you're going out the door.
  21. One of my Cavs is very full on and a bit highly strung. They always know when I am going out and get excited because of two things. Firstly it means they are going with me or secondly, they are going to get a treat! I started doing this after she became an only dog. The first time I left her I could hear her inside, barking anxiously. It worked for me but she is very food driven! A give something that will keep her occupied long enough for me to be gone.
  22. Another tip. a friend makes covers for the dog beds out of waterproof mattress protectors, puts them over the inner bit, then the outer bit over the top so she only has that to wash. Hers do tend to pee in the beds though.
  23. I put the whole bed in my top loader and only occasionally get a bit of hair around the bowl. I just wipe it out with a damp cloth, clean the filter regularly and remove and clean the inside of the agitator.
