  1. I also give VAN to my lot, I mix it with their meat, I also add a good tablespoon of frozen Bell's Winter Vegetables (winter vegetables don't contain corn) that I have whizzed in the food processor then a lump from a packet of frozen spinach. and bones...they get bones They do well on it
  2. I was thinking that exact thing mairead here's some more from a Welsh walker's diary: In Beddgaelert, we took a walk by the river and visited the grave of the legendary Gelert, the hound who protected his master’s infant child from a giant wolf. When the baby’s father, Prince Llywelyn, returned from the hunt, saw blood on the dog and no sign of his son, he killed Gelert believing him responsible. As Gelert fell, the prince heard his son cry and found him safe with the slain wolf nearby. space The faithful Gelert Horrified by his actions, the prince, it is said, never smiled again. The village is named in honor of this brave dog. Beddgelert=the grave of Gelert.
  3. Ages back I took Henry and Zara to an Earth Dog fun-day at Durack, they didn't have rats (unfortunately as Henry would have cleaned them up quick-smart) they had a fox-tail on a stick, Henry went through the caged tunnel ok but only because he thought the fox-tail was something to eat, he couldn't figure out why it required so much effort for such a low-grade treat. Zara was just soooo uninterested in the whole hunting thing and wouldn't go in the tunnel at all! so much for rat-killer Dandies she was happy sitting on a hay bale just waiting for a treat
  4. A little but to partly answer @Adrienne's question: when you buy your stripping knife get the one that has a groove to put your thumb, an example here (though the teeth are to coarse for your dog) I find they are more comfortable and easier to use than the flat-sided bladed ones. Wear rubber gloves also as your fingers get sore if you don't, you can buy little finger condoms like these . if you are using a stripping stone I find it's cheaper to buy a Heros Chiropody sponge (it's a type of pumice stone) from Chemist Warehouse here it does a good job. Just do 10 minutes on your dog each day
  5. I had a search on FB @asal ---> https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091380890365 and like heaps of dog "adoption" pages it appears to be a scam. If ya feel like some stirring perhaps it'd be fun to string them along
  6. Hi @Jayrii hopefully some others here can suggest some solutions. Here's a site especially for Labs https://www.thelabradorsite.com/blind-dog/ and you can buy a halo which will allow your dog to be outside without bumping in to stuff, some pics here and maybe you or an electronics-geek friend can make one of these https://www.instructables.com/Sonar-Collar-for-Blind-Dogs/ and a video that may give you some good ideas
  7. Oh, just look at their sticky-up tails! Lovely pups Adrienne
  8. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dog+in+training+vest+do+not+pet&crid=2G1C3BCA4L2TU&sprefix=do+not+pet+dog+vest%2Caps%2C355&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_19
  9. https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/dog-found-trapped-in-underground-rabbit-hole-after-5-days/ Given the breed I don't think he'll learn from his experience SWNS A distraught pet owner has been reunited with her beloved dog after he was found trapped in a rabbit hole five days after disappearing. 33-year-old Sarah Mclellan was left devastated after her beloved dog Ralph disappeared while out on a walk near their English home in Haworth, West Yorkshire last week. Mclellan and her husband then spent their weekend searching for the wire-haired Dachshund. They recruited volunteers; made posts for “Lost Dog” Facebook groups; and even had a woman create a website for Ralph – all to no avail. “On Friday it was horrendous weather, it was freezing and we just couldn’t find him anywhere,” said Mclellan. “As you can imagine at this point your mind goes wild thinking, ‘what’s happened? Has he drowned? Has something bad happened?’ LOOK: Good Samaritans Save Drowning Animal From Frozen River Only to Discover It Was a Wild Wolf “My son had asking us where Ralphy was. He was opening the front door and shouting for him – it was heartbreaking,” she added. “We just had to tell him that Daddy was looking for him.” Miraculously, the terrified pooch was eventually sniffed out by his sister Edie while she was out on a walk with Mclellan’s husband on Monday. Ralph was trapped five feet underground in a maze of rabbit runs located just half a mile from his home. After two hours of careful digging, the pup was finally rescued. SWNS “The rabbit holes are like mazes and he must have gone through one hole and got stuck – he had made himself a hole in the middle but he couldn’t get out again,” said Mclellan. “When he got out the hole he went for a wee – and then carried on as if nothing had happened! “When I got back home I opened the door and there he was in the kitchen,” she added. “I couldn’t believe it.” MORE: Thousands Are Rejoicing Over Photos of a Chubby Rat’s Rescue From a Manhole Cover Despite losing weight while he was trapped in the hole, Ralph was not left with any serious injuries. “Ralph is completely knackered and he has worn down his nails from where he was trying to dig himself out, but he is otherwise fine,” said Mclellan. “He’s lost weight and he’s so tired – he just needs time to build himself back up again.” SWNS The relieved owner hopes that her happy ending will give others hope that their pets will also be found. “It was such a drama and I was still in shock when I saw him – I was up till 1am last night just cuddling him. “He does like chasing rabbits and he does that a lot but he just took it too far this time. Hopefully he has learnt his lesson this time.”
  10. O No! I was just reading about those flights to Antarctica yesterday LG (but thought I'd rather go by boat anyway) just imagine if I had gone and she had been onboard
  11. This is LMO but it may be worth tradies contacting you via this page linkie here (I was contacted by a very reasonable and very professional solar inverter guy and was very happy with the job and he really did have to go out of his way to get to our place)
  12. Contact breeders nearest to you and ask if they would have or know of an older dog for sale, tell them all about your family, if you are home most of the time, and if not, what time you will be spending with the dog and where it will be sleeping, also send them photos of your house yard. Breeders want the best home for their older ones so you'll need to work hard to prove you are the best home available
  13. What beautiful dogs! To see them on your wall where they are forever with you is such a bonus Lovely paintings...made with love
  14. 122 pages in this PDF but it is listed as a vulnerable breed, there are litter/pups registered charts (up to 2018) info here and better statistics in this link https://australianterrier.org/global-statistics-and-sustainability/
  15. yes I saw that and it surprised me, maybe people have gone off those little feisty rat-catching rangas
  16. Yesterday at The Dandie stand at Crufts she doesn't care about her one-eyedness she has the best of lives so just get the eye removed and don't bother with the prosthetic xx
  17. Westie Rescue have had good results with Austrazole Topical Fungicide Wash for Dogs and Horses I have used it on Minnie as a wash (obviously) after I have given her a bath (and yes, I just use Fido's shampoo) Minnie's skin has cleared up well though the dog's immune system also needs a kick-start so a raw diet (seems to be the go-to for skin-problem Westies) Apoquel for the short term (thank goodness fo Apoquel), Hydrozole ointment for a few days on the bad areas as well as Gold Cross Whitfield's Antifungal Ointment (Chemist Warehouse or ebay) The Hydrozole is a pharmacy only product so you'd need to say it's for your husband's feet, don't mention it's for your dog The Whitfields is really so good, cheap enough and covers a big area as it's greasy. Calendula petal wash was is helpful but is really slow on results, I made up a wash by steeping some petals overnight, I also made a Calendula oil by putting petals in coconut oil and keeping it warm for a couple of days, I used an electric yoghurt maker. You can buy the petals here https://countrypark.com.au/product/calendula-petals/ Hope this helps
  18. All of us here have gone through the same grief @West so we do know how you are feeling. have your dog cremated or buried under her favourite garden-spot and give her some dignity. Remember it is still about her and doing what you are thinking of doing is not going to help your grief. Would she have wanted it?
  19. years ago I used to use Aristopet tea tree dog soap on Penny and Mac (my first Westies) it was so good but it seems to be unavailable now
  20. I use Fido's to get the dogs clean then use an special shampoo for Minnie's crook skin (which is getting so much better) I had a quick look and this is a small amount if you decide to try it, though I don't know what the postage would be https://www.jumbopets.com.au/Fido-s-Everyday-Shampoo.html?vid=347&msclkid=55363b6b253f19dcce055f6f620d0a90 Fido's also have tea tree shampoo and Aloe Vera shampoo
