  1. The evidence is out there in every dog or cat that ever had a reaction to a vaccine. And before you say that they have had a reaction to the "additives" -Where is the proof of that? Just a question- Do MLV's shed into the environment?
  2. also try Aussie Pet Comfort (googl0e) or email [email protected] They are in chelsea Heights. They make beds to orser and have stockists ( I think) Just as good as Snooza but not as dear.
  3. I use Wagner's Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSN all in one mix. Interesting thing that I got from my Naturopath- I've had trouble with my lower back lately and I asked him what I should be doing to stregnthen it. As well as excercise he recommended Bovine Collagen powder. Apparently as the body ages it finds it increasingly difficult to make collagen and so this is a good way to supplement it and it is recomended for people who have shelfish allergies.
  4. I don't think you should be getting this done "just in case". These are only babies and their heads have not finished growing yet. I think the vet is being very irresponsible to be suggesting that. If the vet did not do the surgery then do not go ahead with it for a few more months. Putting a pug under anaesthetic is problematic at the best of time but to go under twice in such a short space of time just to fix something that may not be a problem is ridiculous. My advise is to wait.
  5. I'd be wanting to know what the C7 covers and if that is really necessary. New vaccine protocals do have 3 years. I think your vet needs to read up on the new protocals.
  6. I breed pugs and my puppy diet is meant to cover the first twelve months not the next eight weeks. I would also suggest that the dietary needs of your Border collie would be different to your pug. I would stick to the breeders recommendations.
  7. I neede to distinguish between 3 of my black pug puppies, who were almost identical. I ended up writing 2, 3, 4 on their bellies with a non toxic permanent texta. Had no problems. I also made little elastic collars for times such as worming, nails ect that I just slipped over their heads to show they had been done. i took them off after I had finished.

    The Lead !

Yes I have to fully agree with Huski here. I have pugs and at the moment I have a 13 week old. 30 minutes is way to long for a pup to be walking on lead. 5-10 minutes at a gentle pace . The rest of her excercise comes naturally. I don't actually start taking my young ones for "long" walks until around 6 months. Then it would only be half the distance of the older pugs. Of course if you walk the little one for 5 minutes and carry him for 10 minutes and then walk ect you could do 1/2 hour walk yourself.
  9. When I have puppies I make it a habit of having some background noise eg TV Radio going during daylight hours and then when we sleep-light out and quiet. This happens from day one. I find as the pups get older they settle down to sleep quickly once lights go out. Just this weekend, my 13 week old has become an "only pup". Her sister has gone to her new home. He first night I set up her bed next to mine. She hopped up for cuddles and then I put her in her bed. She stacked on a turn for about 3-5 minutes but I ignored her. So she lay down on the bed and I turned out the light. Not a peep until about 8 the next morning. Last night repeated the process and when I put her down she looked at me and the laid down and went to sleep.
  10. One of my pug girls nearly lost her eye years ago due to an accident and she has low tear production. I have found that the gel based eye drops work best with her.
  11. I have one. I have pugs. I found it is excellent. My dogs love it it. Some just think they are having a massage.

    Pug

Since someone mentioned contact the pug club in your state, and since I'm assistant Secretary in our state, here is our website http://www.pugclubvictoria.com/ Okay the site needs to be updated a little re: shows ect but with this years shows being so close together tihngs have been a little busy.
  13. Try "dermcare" Aloveen, Oatmeal Intensive Conditioner. also comes in Shampoo and conditioner. Available from vet. I use it with my pugs
  14. My girl Elyse went through this.. and Ithought I was the only one!!!! Anyway after about 8 weeks recovery and when her liver test were back to normal for a dog of her age she returned to her normal diet. We have not had a relapse.
  15. My pug girl Elyse had a bout of Hepatitis around 2-3months ago. very high fever and pain, her liver results were through the roof. She spent a couple of days in the vets on fluids antibiotics and metacam. She came home full of vigour and was on a special liver diet for about 3-4 weeks. she had blood tests every 2 weeks and her liver tests were back to normal. She is fine now. Her ultra sound showed up normal liver ect and only sludgy looking stuff in her gall bladder. Since then she has had 3 incidents (over 5 weeks) of high temp and pain and we have used metacam to bring the temp down and stop the pain. Her liver test results were better than her previous "good" results. We are looking at doing an x-ray and then possibly "spinal fluid" if it continues. I can only recommend that when you bring her home get the vet to send home her history with you including blood test results. that way you have accurate information that you can take with you to another vet in case you need to in an emergency.
  16. I bought a Lazor dryer of e-bay. I was purchasing this model but they actually sent me a different model with the heating and two speed. Excellent, I use it on my pugs. Some really enjoy it as a massage. Have also used it on a friends lab. when they say it blows coat off...it does!
  17. Been to the vet today, result.... It turned out to be a melenoma and she also had a cyst nearby. She is home happy as larry and asleep at my feet.
  18. No not a tick, at first I thought it was like an ink spot and then realised that the hair would be a different colour!!!
  19. Could this possibly be a Mast Cell Tumor? Elly is a pug and has a very short coat and also very pink skin. About two days ago I noticed a "ruffle" in her coat and when I pulled back the hair I found this black spot. It reminds me of a human mole. Her sister had Mast cell tumor cut out of her leg a couple of years ago. I have seached for images of MCT's and can't find anything like this but I'm wondering could it be one in its very early stages. Of course we will go to the vet's and have it checked out but I'm just wondering if people have seen this in their dogs?
  20. I can't agree with that, we would average one show a month and yes the blacks will "flake", sometimes it helps if they are washed a few days before, sometimes a spray with plain water before going into the ring helps. Very rarely do I use shampoos on the dogs coats just the hydrobath and essential oils and still we will flake. It may be that at this time of the year the dogs coats are changing and the skin is a bit dryer. i've never found any of the mentioned products have worked significantly for me????
  21. Best wishes for millie's speedy recovery. I have had two with bloat/GDV and 2 successful operation And yes all dog owners need to be aware of bloat. One was a Deerhound and one was a pug.
  22. Yes, my old pug boy had it and I thought he was having a stroke or something. God I was almost hysterical by the time I got to the vet. He recovered quickly and was back to normal within a week or two.
  23. I had a pug girl come down with suspected AIHA at eight months. tests proved inconclusive but they treated as such. She had to have a blood transfusion her blood count was so low. She is 5 now, has had a perfectly healthy litter, has never relapsed (touch wood) and has never been revaccinated (so she only ever had her baby vaccs.)
  24. I have 12 dogs and don't have a flea problem. When we moved to our farm it was riddled with fleas. we had a very big flea problem. Our vet rtecommended using Frontline and so we did. It took time but we eventually broke the flea lifecycle. yes you will find the occasional flea on your dog but it will be dying. With Frontline and probably some of the other products, when the flea gets on the dog the product starts working and the flea doesn't actually get to bite/feed and therefore you don't gte the reaction. Now we only ever use the Frontline in summer and still don't have a problem. Never had pups with fleas either. Even my husbands working dogs have had pups that have been flea free because we treated mum with Frontline.
  25. I have to agree with Charles here. I have had first hand experience with his clinic on two occassions and they did everything within their power and knowledge to help our dogs. Out of the box thinking and care. Also my regular vet is also a trained and probably a leader in Accupunture and alternative methods. She uses both. I was stunned on one occassion when I took my GSD in to her. She wasn't eating with her usual gusto and I knew there was something wrong but not what. She had a feel around and said let me do some accupuncture. After she finished I asked when would I expect to see an improvement. She said "tonight" and she was right. When I put her food down she ate like normal and was back to her old self. She had somehow managed to "hurt/pull/do something" to her diaphram and eating caused her alot of pain. I have a great deal of respect for my vets and after 18+ years of being a client, they have a great deal of respect for my knowledge of my breed.
