My Dog Is Really Restless And Wont Settle Down
Lady Flying Furball replied to vnv's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would be taking her back to the vet. Obviously it wasn't just stress or excitement as it has continued over days. So go get her examined/investigated further. -
What Do You Wish You Knew Before You Got Your Dog?
Lady Flying Furball replied to GeorgieB's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keisha voted my favourite cutesy avatar... Now on topic, that dogs are such little mirrors!! And that I needed to set firm boundaries and not be so anxious if he was alright because he was alright!! -
Can You Suggest A Breed?
Lady Flying Furball replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I just came back to this thread to deliberately ask about how the famous "show" poodle clip developed...so great info Poodlefan . I think that there is a lot of misconception and opinion on the Poodle breed, distinguished by the show clip, no doubt about it! -
Toy Poodle With Papers In Petshop ?
Lady Flying Furball replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes it does sounds like that. I'm not sure about that. When I was looking at papillon pups at PP here in NSW they wouldn't reveal the source of the pups, assuring me that they came from breeders that they had checked. They want to protect their sources so customers don't go straight to the breeder. If you get to see the parents papers you would know where they come from...which I think could be against the chain's policy. -
I can't wait to find out...although it could be a trick question...I would easily have said pure chi too.

Chi and kelpi is good, but how about chi and daschund

Hi, As described in the title, I was slightly alarmed to find a live flea on my head . Tonka was itching so badly during the night that I got up at 5am to give him his monthly Advantage 5 days early. Perhaps they are escaping and will just die now that they can't stay on him. I'm certainly hoping so. Any suggestions or advice. Surely it takes a lot of fleas to create an infestation in the furniture...

Very Old Dog Breed Book (link)
Lady Flying Furball replied to Ausvarg FL's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the link. It's so interesting!! Had to smile at the category "British Colonial Breeds" just to claim ownership on breeds that truly had nothing to do with Britain ! Also, that the Papillon is put as a belgian breed, and that they have a toy spaniel. -
My Papillon continues the Pap tradition, being bred as a companion/ lap dog. He can be observed daily lying on the softest surface available, and as a friend of mine who looked after him for a few days said, he was an expert at "enjoying the cushions."

It's a crossbreed as previously pointed out...and how can they ALL be horrible? That's a bit of a generalization, isn't it?
-
How about some piccies of said dogs and possum

Big Problem With My Newfy
Lady Flying Furball replied to Raven's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good luck with the people coming to see Digi. They sound very good candidates...and if you find the right situation and people to rehome to, it may make it that little bit easier. It sounds like you've made the best decision in a difficult situation. -
Thanks, but I'm not a breeder yet! Okay, then...great to hear from an experienced Papillon person!
-
Thanks Pappylove. Great to hear from experienced breeders!!

Seems to me there is a bit of a paradox here, which I think about with the possibility of getting my dog done if training doesn't work. You need to keep the dog quiet for the operation to be successful, for three weeks. The thing is, if you can keep the dog quiet, you can keep the dog quiet!!

Thanks Zug Zug. I am actually booked into see K9 force so REALLY look forward to that, and have decided now to write for some advice and/or an early appointment, as I don't want bad neighbour relations. Erny, what can I say. You really asked a "straight to the bull's eye" question there! It has been dawning on me how anxious I am to leaving him, my own attachment to him, and worry that he won't cope. I think I may need the behavioural assessment. I will call for an earlier appointment... Thanks guys.

Hi, Has anyone had experience with training work for a dog that is too attached to it's owner's presence. I suspect that this is why my dog is again starting to bark when I'm out. It got better and now seems a bit worse again as I just got a letter from my strata. I suspect that it isn't excessive. He never barks when I'm here or at any noises from outside or from neighbours so I suspect it is trying to call me home. Many thanks. PS. I have a behaviouralist session booked for July, but hoped to get a bit of advice/ideas from here to try

Separation Anxiety
Lady Flying Furball replied to poochmad's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks for this thread, with such clear details of all you are doing. I have dealt with the separation anxiety of my papillon and recognise a lot of the same issues with how I have experimented with decreasing the anxiety, and also in recognising how I have let my dog become very dependent on my presence to feel okay. It was not so much of an issue anymore until I tried to leave him at night and with daylight saving; barking when I came home and neighbors said he barked on and off...so now have to work on it again as I definitely want to be able to leave him at night sometimes! It sounds like you are doing well. At one point I also rang Dr Seksel's practice to have a consultation, but $595 just felt wrong. Can anyone tell me what would justify that charge? I am sincere in that question; would like to know. -
I'm glad it has gone so well for you all. ...And how have your neighbours received your efforts? (Asked out of curiousity )
-
Hi Wagsalot, Just had a look on your website...saw the squirrels in junior size...is that for puppies or would that be okay for my papillon (full grown)? Thanks, FF

Thank you everyone for your support, replies and ideas and experienced suggestions. Many things have struck a chord and it gives me strength to go on and will preserve this thread thus far in a good old Word cut and paste job for future reference!! Fortunately his behaviour is minimised in its impact by being only 3.5 kilos, unlike some of your big dogs... and makes for easy and light physical handling... I have to watch what I am communicating to him; and see that I just need to refocus and be totally with him when we walk...that translates to not going for takeaway lattes (well it is Bondi!! ) and having free hands for treats and things to reinforce the behaviour I want to reward. Cheers

After trying a few "internet" general tactics I am starting to realize that I do need to find out what's appropriate for my particular dog and what's going on for him... I'll PM you closer to June if don't find something sooner... I think I get frustrated because he is so trainable and smart...but I haven't worked out what he really is doing and needs! Reassuring to hear that the vast majority can be worked out... I noted in another reply that trainer didn't work on this specifically...we did basic obedience and worked on some separation issues too which showed up early... I focused on those as I live in an apartment...and he really responded. I can leave him now up to 10 hours...but he is very fixated on me nevertheless when I'm home...
