  1. Sounds like something heavy being dragged across a hard floor to me? ie outdoor chair scraping across concrete or tiles.
  2. Wow, hasn't this thread got off topic... Re the original question: I don't see what was wrong with the suggestion of correcting the dog for showing inappropriate behaviour (whether it be with a prong or otherwise) and rewarding the dog when he focuses back on the handler. Sometimes rather than make yourself more appealing you need to make the distraction/bad behaviour less appealing. Sounds like the dog understands that focussing on his handler is right, but has not really been taught that focussing on the other dogs and/or becoming overly excited is 'wrong'. If the dog isn't taking food (when he is normally very food orientated) then he's simply over his threshold.

  5. I have wondered the same. Kei is a solid dog with quite a bit of muscle and weighs around 37kg - so very different to Lewis. I'm assuming that the dose/size of the implant remains the same regardless of the size of the dog, so perhaps the guidelines (ie 6 or 12 months) are a minimum and based on a larger breed dog? It would be interesting to know how very small breeds go with the Suprelorin.
  6. I have been following your updates here. Kei's nuts are coming back and he is returning to his obnoxious self already - 6 months on the dot since he was given the Suprelorin. I will be re-implanting with the 12 month version in a month or so.
  7. Could be many reasons for the behaviour - might be as simple as frustration and excess drive, might not, you need a professional to assess the dog, not a diagnosis over the Internet from God knows who. You might need to make a trip to Brisbane. In the meantime I'd suggest that you crate train the dog and crate him inside in a quiet area when the kids have their friends over rather than chaining him (as chaining will build frustration and amplify the behaviour). If you can manage walking muzzle the dog (for safety) and use a weighted backpack which will tire him out faster. http://caninespirit.com.au/categories/canine-backpacks Also have a look here: http://leerburg.com/articles.htm http://leerburg.com/flix/category.php?categoryid=30 Plenty of free articles and vids.

  9. All mine are covered, I can't see any cons - keeps them cooler in summer and warmer in winter plus the dogs prefer it. Most have windows or you can roll up the side if they need more ventilation You can pick up covers relatively cheaply on eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Extra-Tall-8-Panel-Pet-Dog-Run-Enclosure-Pen-Crate-Cage-/270830050386?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item3f0eba9c52#ht_2224wt_1398
  10. A playpen is best used for quiet time and containment, you want your pup to learn to relax in there and entertain itself when you can't (similar to a crate). Perhaps consider playing with your pup outside instead - more room and more fun. If you wanted to gate off a corner there are some very large baby gates designed to do so and also pens which can be attached to a wall with brackets. I'll see if I can find you a link... from memory these come with wall brackets http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Extra-Tall-8-Panel-Pet-Dog-Run-Enclosure-Pen-Crate-Cage-/270830050386?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item3f0eba9c52#ht_2224wt_1398
  11. The pen you linked is not tall enough to contain a lab puppy. Have a look here; http://shop.vebopet.com.au/store/dogs/dog-pen-dog-run/?page=2
  12. I got mine from here http://www.naturalpaws.com.au/product-categories.asp but doesn't look like they have it any more.
