  1. Because any tension on a collar comes at an awkward angle if there is a leash attached and I'd prefer to avoid it.
  2. Decent harness but I would prefer something lighter/less coverage if I can find it.
  3. I'm looking for a Y-front harness that will not restrict movement, but also have a front attach point. I don't want anything that will rub the coat too much or rub under the armpits, nothing too bulky, also don't want a 'no-pull' type. Needs to fit a larger dog but does not need to be particularly strong as it's just for running on the treadmill. Anyone know of a harness that will suit or someone who could make something? Alternatively I'm wondering if it's possible to attach a leash to the front ring on a Lupine or Rogz H-style harness, which would otherwise suit? (Don't have one here to try at the moment). Thanks
  4. For the first time in Australia - Jogi Zank Jogi Zank is internationally recognized as one of the world's most gifted trainers, is a multi-national Team Leader for big Championship events and his feel for dogs and his expert technical knowledge really set him apart. Amongst other top wins, in 2009 he won the prestigious SV/VDH German National Championship with a re-homed dog - something virtually unheard of! The Melbourne seminar will be held on the 17th and 18th of January - start 9am. ($350 with dog - limited, $240 per spectator.) Limited handler spots are still available for this seminar. Jogi will be discussing/displaying the methodologies that he uses to develop and train his dogs to competitive level. The seminar will concentrate on obedience and is suitable for both IPO and ANKC participants. Each day will commence with theory and then follow through with practical work. This is the seminar's facebook link: https://www.facebook...86366578305011/ Some video of Jogi Zank with some of his champion working dogs For further info & bookings contact Karen: 0414 315 782 Email: [email protected]

  7. Moorook's biggest problem is their 'no kill' stance. If animals were euthanised when their time was up, then people might think twice about dumping their unwanted pets there. So Moorook is now restricted to 60 dogs, but idiots (including council) keep dumping them. Where else are they supposed to go when no one else wants to take responsibility? Hoarding animals at all costs is not 'saving' them. For many PTS would be the kinder option. ETA, as someone who actually lives in the area I can tell you now that I would rather see my animals humanely pts if there were no other option than end up in that hell hole.
  8. I've just bought one for a friend and waiting for it to arrive this week. These are a new style and should be suitable for walking/car travel, the webmaster would also suit that purpose. The front attach point looks to be a material loop rather than a standard d-ring, not entirely sure that I would be attaching a leash to that point... The Ruffwear gear is all good quality and that particular harness is a good price for what you get. You cannot use a front attach/no pull harness for car travel, it would be neither safe nor comfortable for the dog

Much more. PETA is letting loose upon the world individuals who not only maniacally believe that killing is a good thing and that the living want to die, but who are legally armed with lethal drugs which they have already proven—29,426 times in the last decade—that they are not adverse to using. 10. Forms have arrived. Pretty straightforward - a space for our details, a space for name and address and signature of each neighbour (up to 4) plus a box for them to tick with either agree or object. Up to us to approach and get the signatures and there are no fees. When I say 'is there a loophole' I mean is there a way to dismiss one nasty neighbours (likely) objection if no other neighbours object? Have thought about getting some reference letters from other neighbours stating that our dogs are well kept and not nuisance barkers to back it up if need be.
  11. This is what I was wondering. This neighbour has complained to council about our dogs barking (and everyone else's in the street really). Council no longer take them too seriously, however there is a record. In this area all immediate neighbours are required to sign a consent form. I'm 100% certain this person will kick up a stink for no other reason than that she can. Would like to find a way around it if possible.
  12. Could anyone please tell me if there are any loopholes to getting a permit for a third dog when one immediate neighbour won't agree? In this case the person has a long history of making noise related complaints to council and police re other neighbours music, cars, kids, barking dogs, etc, and also has a personal dislike of dogs. Thank you.
  13. I have a dog that would previously flip out over nail clipping. As an alternative I taught her to 'file' her nails on a large strip of coarse sandpaper - taught her to target with the paw, then drag the paw down scratching her nails against the paper. Only takes a few 5 minute sessions to get them down to a good length. Obviously only works for the front paws though and you still need to clip the dew claws occasionally. If the dog is stressed it's usually easier to have a second person hold the dog from the front (by the collar and keeping focus forwards), while you lift the feet up and back like a horses hoof. You can see the quick and clip quickly without the dog being too aware of what's going on.
  14. Cotton webbing leashes from dogquip. Easy on the hands, light weight and strong. We use them for training both obedience and character/protection work and never had one break, even with the larger dogs. Not expensive either at around $16 each http://www.dogquip.com/ For leather: http://leerburg.com/amishleashes.htm
  15. Vets have told her that the dog is not 'up to date' and due to parvo risks must have a second round of shots before surgery or they can't/won't do it. I'm aware that KC needs to be repeated to be effective but this should have no bearing on the parvo risks? As someone who vaccinates minimally I really can't see the reasoning here. Any dog with a mature immune system should be fully covered two weeks after a single vacc to my knowledge. So if it's not general protocol and simply pushiness on the vets behalf for an extra vaccine I will advise her to go elsewhere.
  16. A friend recently took an 18 month old dog in for vaccs (C5), the dog had not received any puppy shots. On booking the dog in for desexing she was told this could not be done until the dog had received another round of C5 as she was 'not protected'. Desexing could be done two weeks after the second vaccination. I would have thought that a single vaccine given to a dog with a mature immune system would give adequate protection? What is the general protocol with mature, previously un-vaccinated and/or rescue dogs? Thanks

  19. Inappropriate is recommending the dog be put to sleep for what comes across as a management issue. MY OWN Ridgie is not comfortable with strangers in his face or rude dogs and is therefore managed accordingly... But I guess I'd better forget about common sense and make an appointment with the vets instead. What a cop out. The owner has already made it clear that the dog was responding well to training. The owners made the mistake of leaving the dog in the yard and allowing a tradie to enter when they knew the dog was uncomfortable/unsafe with strangers. The owners are the ones that bought a dog that may have not been the best fit for their lifestyle and now no longer want to deal with it. And still the dog pays.
  20. this almost impossible to state without seeing this dog , and the owners.... That ^. If they want to do the work that's up to them. You seriously think a dog that doesn't love strange men and dogs in her face but is otherwise fine deserves to be put down? Or perhaps the dog is psychotic and the OP hasn't mentioned it... really? They need to see a decent trainer I agree.
  21. I will PM you details of a trainer in Vic that is experienced with Ridgebacks. There's nothing 'wrong' with your dog. She doesn't need to be put down, just needs better training and management.
