  1. Thanks for all the links. I will have a read of them over the next few days. Yes, I was thinking today that she would be one to talk to. Dogmad, I will PM you tomorrow if you don't mind. I have a few questions that you may be able to help with.
  2. Do you have a link? Or contact details *eta, is this the one http://www.animalwellness.com.au/about_our-clinic.php ? Thanks Perse
  3. Looking for recommendations for a good Animal Naturopath or Holistic Vet experienced in treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease. SA based would be ideal but I would be just as happy with a phone consult proving they can offer a personalised and ongoing service. I would prefer someone with a veterinary background if possible, or that is open minded towards using a combination of natural and conventional treatments if needed. Thanks
  4. You can put Rescue Remedy in their water bowls. Just a big squirt per bowl is fine, you can't really OD on it. If it's anxiety then perhaps one of those DAP diffusers would help? http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/DAPC#.UnNgWvlmiSo
  5. What you see in the Forrest Micke video in the original post is trained through Michael Ellis methods. You can buy the DVDs through Leerburg http://leerburg.com/ellisdvds.htm You would need to understand the marker system to train this way. It is explained in these 3 DVDs; The Power of training Dogs with Markers The Power of Training Dogs with Food The power of Playing tug with your Dog The heel work is covered in the focussed heeling DVD http://leerburg.com/223.htm There are also plenty of free vids here if you scan through http://leerburg.com/flix/category.php?categoryid=10
  6. If I win the lottery ;-) but I might come without the dog if I can afford it next year
  7. Forrest Micke will be in NZ for a seminar next year if you're interested. Price is very reasonable, even when you factor in flights ;-) https://www.facebook...594627817227342
  8. Thanks, will give them a call also. I had actually emailed them last week along with a few others but did not receive a response.
  9. Thank you. I'll give them both a call next week. If you have any contact details could you please PM them to me?
  10. Looking for anywhere in SA that can supply whole rabbits in bulk at a reasonable price. Or even interstate if they can transport. So far the only place that I have found is in the Central Markets. However they only half rabbits available at this time and sell at a very high price... One of my dogs is halfway into an elimination diet and our local supplier will not be able to source any more for us. I now need to find something within the next two weeks before we run out. Paying someone to go out hunting is also an option, though I have been led to believe that numbers are down in our area at the moment so it would be preferable to find a reliable butcher/supplier for the time being. Thanks to anyone that can help.
  11. http://www.vetnpetdi...GO#.Uj904cZmiSo Durapet Ergo bowl
  12. I would be interested to hear trinabean Nek, The VAN supp is out for now due to the liver component. Will look into the calcium sandoz
  13. What is the best type of calcium supplement to use in conjunction with a single protein/single carb elimination diet? Thanks
  14. Looks like a Dutch Shep to me as well. Police dogs and sport dogs are usually highly social, well balanced, members of the family. The photo's below were taken by Nuttee Ratanapiseth and are from the 2013 IPO Nationals which were hosted by the Adelaide Sportdog Club in July. They are all of the same dog For anyone interested here is a link to the rest of the pics https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-2013-Australian-National-IPO-Open-Championships/149757931851809?sk=photos_albums
  15. Another photo from a different angle. Legs are not short. I really can't see much Ridgeback in her, or bull-mastiff. Personally I was leaning towards a mix of Lab x and generic staffy x, with perhaps some Cattle Dog/mastiff/ridgeback further back in the mix. She will probably be registered as a Ridgeback cross regardless.
  16. A friend has just taken on a dumped dog. She's 9 months old, approx 20-22 inches tall, unsure on weight at this time Previous owners said she is Ridgeback x Bullmastiff but way too small IMO and neither breed is common in this area. Does anyone want to have a guess at the mix? (local council requires a 'breed' or combination of breeds for registration, will not list as 'mixed breed') Thank you
  17. http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/article/18516824/mother-felt-bones-being-crushed-in-dog-attack/ MOTHER FELT BONES BEING CRUSHED IN DOG ATTACK A mother has told of feeling her bones being crushed in the jaws of a vicious dog during an attack in Sydney. Sarah Miller says she thought she was going to die after being ambushed by two Staffordshire bull terriers as she walked her own dog in Cronulla yesterday. "I was down on the ground with blood just absolutely all over me," she told 7News. She said one of the dogs circled while the other attacked her pet chihuahua. "It just came and next thing you know it had my dog in its mouth and it was just shaking its head all over the place."<br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">When her dog was released, it was Sarah's turn. "The dog turned to me and just start going chomp chomp chomp - he was just dragging it - just shaking it like a toy - you know what I mean - forever and ever it felt like it was just horrible." She was rescued by building workers who were forced to smash the dog with timber. One of them, Greg Parks, told 7News: "She was screaming and she was in shock and finally the dog let go." Sarah was about to collect her daughter from school and is concerned that the dogs could have attacked her as she walks their dog up the street all the time. Sarah’s boyfriend Nigel Pybus was shocked when he saw the attacking dog: "I've never seen a dog with such a big head like this - it had a head like a crocodile." The dog's mortified owner had the animal destroyed immediately and is taking full responsibility. Steve Macie told 7News: "It was an innocent mistake from an adult leaving a gate open and the wind blew the gate open further and he snuck out."<br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">He says he'll do everything he can to help Sarah recover. Sarah is demanding the NSW State Government speed up the introduction of tough new dog laws.
  18. What is wrong with the ORIGINAL test? Oh I forgot, the ANKC don't support it.. There's nothing wrong with it and I'd love for it to be a prerequisite here as it is in Germany - but I don't make the rules. Obviously I meant a better test than what is currently being done Apologies if my response was rather blunt, it was not meant as an attack on you personally. It's beyond me that the ANKC refuses to recognise something that is a prerequisite in the country of origin. IMO there is no need for a 'better' or newer' test when one already exists. Protection training is an integral part of the character test. There is nothing stopping anyone. What is ridiculous is that the ANKC will not recognise Sch/IPO titles. My girl (though not a GSD) has her BH and TR1 titles and will hopefully gain her IPO titles in the future. An achievement for me yes, but it will never appear on her pedigree.

  20. I think you will find the most success in practising stationary focus first, then shaping the active heel work one step at a time. You can do this quite easily with a clicker or marker word, using a toy or food as a reward. Does you dog know how to flip into heel position? That can be a good place to start, along with teaching a straight and focussed front. Better to get 5 perfectly focussed steps only then reward, than 5 out of 100 in one session. It is much clearer for the dog IMO. I don't have many recent vids, but this is one of my dog preparing for her BH test (training the basic IPO obedience pattern), which she passed in May this year. The break in the video is where she was broken off for a tug reward.
  21. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/08/01/14/29/wa-woman-offers-20-000-reward-for-missing-dogs A WA woman is offering a whopping $20,000 reward to the person who returns her two beloved huskies. Penny Bourne said she believed her dogs Odin and Teak were taken from her backyard in Mandurah, south of Perth, on Friday, July 5. Ms Bourne told ninemsn she saw a white van slowly drive past on the day the dogs disappeared and she later found the collar belonging to her black female husky, Teak, on the ground at the back of her house. The collar belonging to Odin, her red and white male dog, turned up on the side of the road near their home five days later. "[Teak] is really cheeky but she's never, ever slipped her collar and it would probably hurt her because it was quite tight," Ms Bourne said. She feared for the safety of her pets after receiving a suspicious call following their disappearance. "I had a private phone call saying 'We've found two huskies' and then the phone went dead and I never heard from them again," Ms Bourne said. Ms Bourne is so desperate for the return of her huskies, which cost $750 each, she has placed ads on Gumtree and Facebook offering to buy them back for $20,000. She told ninemsn she hoped whoever had the dogs would realise they would not get a better offer for them. "These are alive, they've got feelings, and the torture that you think might have been happening to them, it's a nightmare," an emotional Ms Bourne said. "Odin is such a softie, he gets dominated by the cat, and you hear of those bait dogs where they tie their mouths up and tie them to a tree (for an attack dog to practice on) and he would be dead by now, his heart would have stopped." Both the dogs are microchipped, desexed and registered. Source: Penny Bourne, Gumtree, Facebook Author: Alexandra Pleffer, Approving editor: Fiona Willan
