  1. http://www.immunovetaustralia.com.au/ May be worth a shot?
  2. Turmeric most certainly has shown to be of benefit in both humans and animals. I would discount it so easily.
  3. Airdaler - have a look at the Greenpet supplements for boosting the immune system. In particular these two: Pet booster http://www.greenpet.com.au/products/GREENPET-PET-BOOSTER-.html Colostrum http://www.greenpet.com.au/products/GREENPET-COLOSTRUM-POWDER-.html May or may not help but certainly wont harm and neither are over priced.
  4. Humans (be they vegan or not) are omnivores, dogs are carnivores. I personally don't believe that a vegan diet is in the best interests of any 'normal' dog. Dogs with protein sensitivities (Allergies, IBS, IBD, etc) can more then often be given a green (plant based) calcium supplement without issues. http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/natural_animal_solutions_natures_organic_calcium#.U4Rk7vmSySo As I said, I'm not knocking the superboost supplement. I'm currently feeding it to both my dogs, and results so far are positive. In the OPs case it may certainly be worth a try. However, I can't get my head around the diet. I can see that certain ingredients in the superboost supp do contain calcium, though can't see how it would be adequate as the only calcium source in a stand alone diet.
  5. There is some calcium in lentils and in meat products and some other vegies. I don't feed my dog bones on a regular basis. They get stuck and cause problems - because she doesn't chew them properly. But she got a boiled egg this morning in its shell - and she ate some of that - though it usually goes straight through unchanged, there is some calcium in that. Most of my dog's calcium comes from dairy (yogurt). Same as me - I don't eat bones either. I would not think a dog would be getting adequate calcium from muscle meat and/or veg/lentils alone and I can find no mention of adding dairy or calcium supps to the diet on the AA+ page either. Hence the question: Does the Superboost supplement contain adequate calcium to form a complete and balanced diet once mixed with muscle meat and veg in the same way that VAN does (thus eliminating the need for bones) or not? I'm not knocking the Superboost supplement, I'm questioning the 'Superfood' recipe - particularly the vegan variation.
  6. Genuine question: Can someone please explain where the calcium is in this diet given that there is no bone content? Does the Superboost powder contain calcium (similar to VAN), therefore forming a complete and balanced diet once mixed with the meat and pureed veggies or am I missing something?
  7. The dog looks like a normal Mal, only with a funny nose. Apart from that there is absolutely nothing wrong with him. The dog is healthy and certainly does not need 'corrective' surgery. This story was all over facebook earlier this year. Bouncing from home to home and struggling to find an appropriate owner had nothing to do with his nose and everything to do with his energy levels. I believe the dog found a permanent (working?) home some time ago. *ETA, from memory the multiple homes were before he landed at the shelter at under 6 months old.
  8. Not nice, but knocking a person to the ground is hardly 'attacking' them... As far as blanket bans on off leash dogs, this is not always the answer. 'Designated off leash areas' are often tiny enclosed dog parks full of clueless owners with little to no control over their animals and designed by councils with no idea. Most importantly not all dogs are going to be suited to this type of environment (for example; service dogs, elderly dogs, dogs recovering from surgery, dogs in training, etc), but these dogs may still require off leash exercise. Councils should concentrate on enforcing the laws that they already have, responding to call outs promptly, and cracking down hard on multiple offenders. Where was the ranger when this was happening? If the below statement is true then this attack on the elderly man's dog was entirely preventable. "The dog, pictured above, had been seen roaming the streets of Wendouree, near Forest and Norman Streets, attacking other dogs throughout the morning"
  9. I can. Tried PM'ing you but it wont go through... Let me know
  10. http://www.savingpet...-little-family/ An excellent example of the RSPCAs
  11. As a rate payer in the area I can't see how the council can justify spending $30,000 on a dog park either. For that cost I'd rather see bag dispensers installed along the river, walking trials and skate park area (and therefore people having no excuse for not picking up after their dogs), existing leash laws actively policed (and repeat offenders actually fined for a change) and an area such as lock 5 opened up for leash free use during suitable hours. I'm with ya :) I'd like them to do anything at all for those of us with dogs. We pay rates and dog registrations every year too and so far the only dog related things I see are signs warning people to not take their dogs on the sporting ovals. But it is the law, there is supposed to be somewhere that people can legally take their dogs for a run. Unfortunately bag dispensers don't always work either. Most dog parks have bag dispensers and they are filled with crap that people are too lazy to pick up. An obedience club I went to held classes in a fenced dog park. The 15 minutes before class was always poop patrol. eta And if the park is anything like the one in the next town over they might as well save their money. The one time I went there a large male kelpie was able to duck right under the fence with no problem at all. The fence was all but useless for anything smaller than a great dane! Hopefully they've fixed it. We drove past that park the other week as I'd never seen it before. I was shocked at the small size and inadequate fencing. Not somewhere I would take my dogs at all! I am planning on writing a submission to the council regarding the planned park and offering some suggestions for an alternate areas. Happy for you to PM me if you have any ideas or would like to offer some input

  13. Yes, the original owners were fantastic
  14. I will look into it but it has been over 2 years now... And yes, still have the emails. Replacement was 'being assembled' in Oct 2011. I'm still waiting
  15. We're planning on doing the same as it's becoming dangerous. Do you mind if I ask roughly how much it cost to fix? (PM if preferred). I'd bin it but it's the only size crate that fits in the back of my car and is still big enough for the dogs. Can't speak for others but I was led on for months with emails going backwards and forwards and promises of a replacement that was 'already being made'. Unfortunately I trusted them and waited for a crate that never arrived. Had I known then what I know now I would have taken it straight to consumer affairs and would advise others in this situation to do the same.
  16. Yes, similar experience here and seems things have not improved? We bought an AP Crate from the new owners in mid 2011 and it was not a positive experience. Poor quality, uneven chunky welds, when set up the panels are at angles to one another when they should be parallel making it a PITA to fold up and down. Also arrived with a crack in the bar below the side gate. A replacement was promised but (after months of contact) never arrived. Over time several more welds have broken on the side gate as well. I would be interested to know if anyone has managed to get their money back or a decent replacement?
  17. The blinds are part of the character routine but are more so an exercise in obedience and control. In simple terms it's a directed send/search and recall, repeated in a figure 8 pattern across the field and ending in a bark and hold. The dog must check the blind and recall to the handler between each (ie the dog cannot run the pattern on it's own without direction). 2 blinds for IPO1, 4 blinds for IPO2, 6 blinds for IPO3. In a trial the helper is always in the last blind. It looks like this: *EFS

  19. A Ridgeback will bark and likely bail up an intruder, possibly corner and hold them too, but (unless cornered and threatened) are very unlikely to follow through with a actual bite. They don't have the nerve and given the option would rather run than fight. They are quite territorial though and unlikely to let a stranger onto the property without the owner around. Very loud, intimidating bark as well. In my experience Ridgies are good with people and kids they know. Not so good with those they don't and take time to accept newcomers into the home (though some are more social than others). Reasonably active, as puppies they are likely to knock over small kids so you would have to watch that if the kids are young. Not overly prey driven but still wouldn't chance them not to chase stock without any training. The majority that I have met are not dog aggressive either. As for breeders in QLD, my pick would be Riginal or Starridge. Not sure how often they breed though. Breeders list is here http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/rhodesian-ridgeback.asp?state=QLD&Submit=Go
  20. No worries, it is here if you want it. Just send me a PM
  21. I have a Cool runners Chamois Coat in X-Large that I would consider selling. Bought it from Cleanrun for my Ridgeback, has been worn once for about 15 mins but is a touch too small for him. It should fit a Lab. $20 + post? Let me know if you are interested
  22. The pup will be held at TOLL, in it's crate until you arrive to collect it (inside, in air-conditioning). It's been a couple of years now since I picked up my pup from Adelaide Airport but I remember it being very easy - the hardest part was finding the bloody TOLL building! I do recall that they phoned me (or perhaps gave me a number to call) to confirm the flights were running on time, etc. and were generally very helpful. If you give them a call they will talk you through the process over the phone.
