I didn't see the story. What made the owner of the chi's think that it was the 3 cross breeds that killed his? Were they found in the yard or was he just presuming it was them as they were known to wander? And how did they get into his yard As far as the dogs 'bringing it on themselves' They're DOG'S for Christs sake. The dogs didn't bring this on, the owner did by allowing them to wander. I dont think they should be PTS. I think that they should be rehomed to responsible owners who know how to deal with DA dogs - but of course that wont happen. I dont agree with dogs paying the price for an owners stupidity.

is there only one type of Heartworm injection or are there different brands/types??? Yes, only one which is the Proheart 12 month injection. There was a 6 month version available O/S but I think it may have been pulled from the shelves after all the bad reactions
-
Actually Ive been wondering about this. I have Kei on Interceptor but I really dont think I need to be worming him every month (though I tend to give it every 6 weeks). Not sure what to change to though. Does Heartguard use the same active ingredients as Interceptor? I dont want to have to fiddle around trying to find something that might not agree with him..

Raw Bones + Warm To The Touch
Red Fox replied to all that glitters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't microwave them just in case they do become brittle. Though really, 10 seconds on defrost probaby wouldn't hurt. Try soaking them in a bit of warm water instead. Or with a meatier bone you could whack it under the grill for a few seconds on high and brown up the skin. -
Yet Another What Breed Thread...
Red Fox replied to Verdant Amphibian's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gee this thread took off pretty quickly lol. My vote is for a Miniature Poodle ;) eta: VA - do you know how to add a poll to your thread? It might help you to decide when you have narrowed it down to a few breeds -
I expect it will end up in court then - and I dont expect the council to win. Dont think too many owners will take kindly to the council entering their property and seizing their dogs for desexing. And what do they do when they are done? Call the owners to collect them? Or do they seize and impound the dogs until they are desexed? After losing a few court cases on this perhaps they might change their tune...?? Much as I think the guy in the OP is a tosser I really hope he wins his case.

Off topic will just show up and the forum list one day when you have enough posts. Can't remember how many it is though? Once it's there you will be able to read and post in that forum. Breeders community you can only post if it''s your own thread or if you have been granted permission to post as a registered breeder. Have a look up top in the threads that you can't post in (under the banner). It will say something along the lines of- Dogz Online Forums>Discussion Forums>.............. If the ... part says Breeders Community or Off Topic you wont be able to post there

Is that even legal??

Technically yes, the ground carcuses do count as RMB's. As to whether you need to add meat or not I think it depends on the dog. Some dogs need more meat in their diet while others can handle (and do better with) a lot of bone. There's nothing wrong with the chicken mince but if you can give bones instead then that's better IMO. My dog gets about 40% RMB's, the rest is roo mince (30%), veg/fruit mix, yogurt, fish, offal, eggs, goats milk and supplements. In the past I have tried feeding a higher ratio of bone (70-80%) but it just doesn't work well for him.

Hehe, not sure who you're refering to MM but I can tell you I'm faaarrrrr from perfect lol. But I certainly do have a lot more patience for dogs than children - especially mine (child that is!) Dogs dont answer back, are always happy to see you and not only appreciate their dinner but also eat everything on the plate! More than I can say for Mr 10 today voloclydes- Yep, I've often found my son in the crate. Usually with the dog lol. VA- There are quite a few younger dogs/older puppies that come up in the mature dogs section. Ususally ones that haven't worked out as show dogs for whatever reason. Keep your eye's out and as someone has already suggested perhaps start a seperate thread with a bit more info about what you require in a dog and see what people suggest as a breed. You never know, you might find a breed that you'd never even considered turns out to be perfect for you :D

Argghhh, I get that too! Drives me nuts and I'm always turning everything off at the switch. We must be either very weird or have super sensitive hearing Back to the OP, you can get humane mouse traps that are like a little cage - you put in food and the mice go in but can't get out. We used to have them at my old work (bar/resturant). They are pretty effective... providing you have the sense to let them free well away from where you caught them. And not straight out the back kitchen door like our idiot boss did

Sorry VA but there are days when I wish it was legal to crate my 10 year old Good luck finding a more suitable dog for your family. Dont rush it, do LOTS of research, perhaps look into an older retired showdog who has had some training and is known to be good with kids next time rather than a rescue. The puppy Kongs are made out of a softer rubber than the red classic (adult) Kongs, the black (extreme) Kongs are tougher again.
-
There is a size chart here: http://www.kongcompany.com/KONGSizeChart.pdf Cocker Spaniels are recommended to have either medium or large sized Kongs. If your do is a chewer then go for the larger size in the black (extreme Kong)

I can. When we were kids if we found an old penny (surprisingly we used to find a few lodged in the dirt at school and this was in the late 80's/early 90's!) and wanted to clean it up Mum would put it in a glass of coke for a few days. It used to eat away all the rust and they'd come up bright and clean. It's also said that if you put a piece of meat in a container of coke and seal it for a few days then the coke will eat the meat away to nothing Never tried that one but it wouldn't surprise me. Hence the reason why I'd never drink the stuff!

Prettiest little puppy EVER! She looks like such a happy confident girl too!

We had one for bugs and it annoyed the crap out of me I could hear it so I'm presuming a dog could too. It wasn't really a sound that annoyed me it was more like a change in frequency and a slight ringing in my ears when I got anywhere near it... It did my head in.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I'm going to say it anyway. My personal oppinion is that it's a management issue (having large dogs -or any dogs really- and small kids). I wouldn't have a baby on the floor with a large, boisterous dog in the room. Particularly if the dog was only new to the family and unprove in that type of situation. But I see no reason why either needs to be locked away though?? Why not crate the dog in the same room while you are playing with the baby? Then pop the baby in a playpen or portacot to spend time with the dog? Keep the dog on leash when it's inside the house (or crated/penned). You dont need to isolate it. Train the dog in the yard with the baby inside in a rocker, let it off leash when the baby is sleeping or playing in it's portacot. Exercise the dog when the baby is in its pram (have a friend walk with you to push the pram if need be, or to watch and play with the baby while you run the dog around an oval. It's not easy but it's not rocket science either This is not by any means to have a go at the OP though. In her situation the dog was on a trial, it didn't work out and she has made the decision not to go through with the adoption so end of story. BUT- I dont think that the situation with a baby and a dog is impossible to manage if you want to :D

I'd say get a leather couch But as that's not always viable... What about putting something between the lounge and the cover to catch the dirt? Like a single bed mattress protector or similar? (Tuck it right into the folds of the chairs so that it's nice and secure and you can't feel or see it, then pop the cover over the top). Or pick up an old cheapie 2nd hand couch and make that the "dog couch" and the other can be your (dog free) couch.

That's a bit rude, a full on teenage Wei is not for everyone. Finding the dog that is suitable is all that is needed. I dont know about that... I'd probably be pretty defensive if it was my breed too. The dog is only behaving exactly the way you would expect a dog of that breed and age to act. The OP made a mistake in choosing a Wei (or any large breed, high energy dog) if she cannot/does not want to deal with that kind of behaviour. But no point in flaming now, the deed is done, she is returning the dog and I think she has learnt her lesson too.

I'm sure it will be fine KHM I plan on putting my boy in his crate come lunch time, lest I end up in a pool of drool -
Omega oils or vitamin E in her food?? I'm not sure if it would help or not but it certainly wouldn't hurt. Vitamin E is good to put straight on the skin too.

That must have been very scary for you! I'm pretty sure that KHM plans on removing the bones though I'd be more worried about the chicken suspiciously disappearing before lunch time -
How Young Can Large Breed Dogs Be Bred?
Red Fox replied to Zombie Bait's topic in General Dog Discussion
I looked at a litter where the sire was only 10 or 11 months old. I remember thinking at the time that this was a bit odd as he wouldn't have been fully developed yet, nor did he have any titles on him (though he was doing well in the ring and I think he might have his Australian Champion title now...). The dam was much older (around 6 I think) and had already a couple of litters so they would have known what to expect with her. The boys lines were very good though and the breeder was quite experienced so I wonder if there were other reasons behind it. Perhaps they wanted to breed with the bitch before she got any older? I still found it odd though. They were Ridgies too.
