Where did you get her from minchie pinchie? Would love to see some pics of her

A good trainer might be of some benefit. Personally I wouldn't be putting a halti on a dog that pulls through it - you could end up doing a lot of damage to his neck! There are fur-saver check chains for long haired dogs (which will not get tangles in his coat) or you could try a martingale ;) ETA, everyone else beat me to it lol. I guess that's what happens when you write half the post, disappear to find the kids and do a quick training session with the dog before hitting the send button

I got mine from Big W - around $10 from memory. I have seen them online somewhere too, I'll see if I can find the link.. eta: here you go http://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/pr...ail.asp?ID=3007

I have one in a similar style to that. It was $10 from Big W and I think it might be a Kramer brand?? It's not too bad. I tend to use it a lot for quick trips around here but on a few occasions my dog has managed to pop it out by accidently stepping on the seatbelt clip, so for that reason I only use the PetBuckle tether for longer drives. I also find that the Petbuckle tether is a lot stronger and being that it doesn't have the snap hook it is also a lot safer (no chance of it comming apart under strain) The problem I have with the cheaper tethers is that the hardware on them is pretty crappy. It will keep the dog in place in the car but really there is no way it would hold up in an accident or even under heavy braking. (Particularly if you have a big dog) I did pick up a cheap tether which I would say would be identical to the one in the link. It came from Cheap as Chips and cost me around $2, but it didn't seem to be too strong at all and I ended up giving it away and buying the Kramer one instead. Personally I think you get what you pay for

Irritated Eye. What Could It Be
Red Fox replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sounds like conjuntivitis (particularly as it's in both eyes) but you'll want to get it checked out by the vet to make sure. Provided he's not in any pain there shouldn't be a problem waiting it out for a day or two until the vet re-opens (are the vets open tomorrow?). If it were me I'd not be using salt water as it can irritate the eyes even more (though the saline solution you can buy from the chemists is probably okay). Cooled boiled cammomile or calendula tea is excellent though, just squeeze a little into the eyes using a cotton ball every few hours and be sure to make up a fresh batch each time. I've used this on my cat, dog, child and myself and found it to clear up mild cases of conjuctivitis without an issue. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about -
Kei had his cut out. As far as I'm aware there is a better success rate with cutting out the follicles rather than freezing.

I need to ask a really dumb question Can the Odour-Go be used outside on grass and plants? My dog has recently taken a fancy to having his morning piddle on my rosemary bush which is about 2m away from the back door and despite me hosing it off daily it is starting to STINK I've tried citronella (to keep him off) and white vinegar and water (for the smell) but it's not doing much good. I've been meaning to get some Odour-Go for inside for a while now and am wondeing if it might help with the outside problem too??

Report the owner. If she has already been reported twice then describing her and the dogs should be enough to pinpoint exactly who she is.

You can have runs custom made by most fencing places, just draw up a design of what you would like and get a quote :D As for flooring either have it made with the floor attached (like a giant crate), or -as others have already suggested- lay either pavers or mesh underneath. We had ours done by a local shedding and fencing company for under $1000, fits a large dog fine and MUCH cheaper than a vets bill.

Jeez Wire, where do you live? Sounds exactly like the puppy class we attended At the time I thought I was doing the right thing, in hindsight it created more problems than I could ever imagine. All I can say is NEVER, EVER, EVER will I take a puppy to a class like that again!

Like this?? http://waggle.com.au/petbuckle-b18/kwik-connect-tether-p272 It is supposed to connect to the LATCH bar. I think that is what you are describing? Yeah, that looks almost right. Does the tether hook attach to the latch bar and if so how does the other end of the tether attach to the dog's harness? Doesn't look like any type of catch is on the other end of the tether.... Okay, it's a little hard to explain but the thing at the bottom of the part that looks like a seatbelt catch is the part that attaches to the bar. Rather than have a clip that pushes into the top of it (which it looks like it does) the catch is one whole piece. When you press it against the bar the catch at the bottom springs back and attaches. To release it you press down on the red part at the top of the catch. The hook at the top of the tether is the part that clips to the dogs harness. You can use the loop bit with the ring at the end to attach to your seatbelt (loop it through and then the tether clips on to that) if you dont have a LATCH bar. Does that make sense at all??

Yes, but not all parents are like you Jeanne Some will lets there kids run around screaming (which might frighten or trigger prey drive in certain dogs), others bring food in there, others yet will be too focussed on the kid to watch the dog or vice versa... Some parents will abuse you if your dog barks at their kid, or knocks them down. Some parents will let their children behave in a completely unacceptable manner towards the dogs (eg, let them stare or bark or pull faces) and laugh and think it's 'cute'. I wouldn't allow my dog to bark and run and carry on inside a fenced childrens playground and I think most parents would be offended to see that happen, so why is it okay to let kids do that in a dogs playground? (not directed at you Jeanne, just saying that some parents wouldn't give a hoot.) Personally I think that the only way to fix the problem is simply not to have kids under a certain age in fenced dog parks You can have the most well behaved dog savvy children but all you need is for one irresponsible dog owner to come along with an aggressive or hyperactive dog and it's all over. If everyone had perfect dogs and perfect kids it wouldn't be a problem - but we all KNOW that's never going to happen Surely the parents can organise a play date for their kids when they want to take the dogs to the park? Why not set that up with another dog owner with young children and take it in turns? It's really not that hard. And on the days when you cant go to the park there are plenty of other things that you can do with your dog. The park is not the be all and end all. My dog doesn't go to dog parks and he is absolutely fine.

Friend's Puppy May Have Eaten Something? At Vets
Red Fox replied to Bonnie Pup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Too late sorry You can still get pet insurance for the pup but if your friend tries to claim they will ask for a full history from the vet. They will also ask the vet to sign a form stating what the claim is for and when the animal first showed signs of illness. There normally a 30 day waiting period between signing up and making your first claim too. Hope the puppy pulls through. -
lol, a friend of ours dog is in that book Plenty of people around here that have dogs and vines. Unless your dogs are obsessive about eating the grapes then I dont think it's an issue

My boy has Distichiasis. He had surgey at around 14 weeks to remove the extra lashes but unfortunately he had more grow back in a different place a few months later. I was advised that surgery will permanently change the shape of the eye so if they weren't bothering him then they were best left alone. (The first lot were quite far in and painful for him so had to be removed. But luckily the susequent lashes that have grown have only been just inside the rim and haven't caused too much of an issue.) For now I have had success in checking his eyes regularly and plucking any stray lashes out myself. I also make a point of having his eyes checked every time we visit the vet. Sorry I can't help you with advice on a specialist but wish you the best of luck with your boys op :D

I've used cooled cammomile tea on the dog, cat, kid and myself with success :D You do have to make up a new batch each time, but it is very gentle and wont do any harm. Coloidal silver (sp) is supposed to be good too but I have never tried this.

I dont that think children should be allowed in dog parks at all. Just as I dont think that dogs should be allowed in childrens playgrounds

Most puppy schools will take puppies from 8-16 weeks who have had at least one vaccination. Disease is not really a risk as most puppy classes are held indoors in sterilised areas. However there are other risks to take into consideration. Read up on socialisation vs neutralisation. Have a think about what you hope to achieve by attending puppy classes and then choose one that meets your needs. Be very careful about classes which allow the pups to play non stop. What the dog learns at this age will often affect him/her for life.

What To Do About Chewing/eating Her Bed
Red Fox replied to becandcharch's topic in General Dog Discussion
What about crates in the laundry? I have seen crate mats somewhere that tie down/attach to the bottom of the crate and are supposed to be almost impossible to chew. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly where I saw them though :D Or even a well fitted canvas crate mat might be harder to get out and chew. I suppose you could even velcro it to the base if you wanted too.... (canvas mats: http://www.greatrugs.com.au./store/index.htm. I have a couple of these and they are very tough ) -
Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button
Red Fox replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm with you Dyzney I didn't even realise that the button was there until yesterday. Anyhow, it's a computer for Christs sake - not your next door neighbour yelling on your face. If you don't like what someone has to say just turn it off, or block them. Easy fixed I dont think I would report someone unless I felt that I was being personally threatened. -
Mine hangs around the fridge looking miserable if I haven't fed him. It's a bit hard to forget

My guess is that one or both parents were staffy crosses of some sort and the stupid owners thought 'If we put them together we can sell the pups as purebreds' Wouldn't be the first time ;)
