  1. The summer season must have started with the restricted hours. I just dont remember seeing signage that said the off lead had restricted hours during the summer season. I will have to check it out he next time I go down there.
  2. Or anal gland issues. Molly had stinky breath and it turned out her anal glands were very full so she had been licking them and getting really stinky breath. I had her anal glands emptied and no more bad breath.
  3. I just picked up my BH all 40kg of it. When I bring home dry food I often leave it in the front entry hall until hubby gets home to put it away. Dogs usually have a sniff but leave it alone. Well we brought in the black hawk and the dogs were going nuts. They would not leave the bags alone and Mokha was trying to chew the bag open. They just love it and I am really happy with the food and the price. Thanks Sherel, I hope you had a successful day at KCC park. We had a great time and it was lovely to meet you.
  4. The day I went I had the whole beach to myself. Lots of sand for a pup to run around in just watch between the rocks it has a deeper spot that Mokha fell in.
  5. Ventnor beach has a leash free dog section that is great. When you enter the car park near the toilets you can see it clearly sign posted off lead dogs to the right of the signage and to the left on leash but I am not sure what hours if any apply to the onlead section. We had a great time at the off lead a couple of weeks ago there is rocky areas to explore and my dogs loved the waves.I think the name of the road we went down was Ventnor beach road which turns into a gravel car park at end. There is a play ground area and toilets so it is great. If you have a puppy I would keep it on lead probably as the water was reasonably deep for dogs not too far out and there are waves... It is chilly too if it is a cooler day. We went on a 28 degree day and it was perfect.
  6. Very sad story. I imagine the owner feels terrible. This could have caused a major accident as the Monash is extremely busy multi laned road. I never leave my dogs unrestrained even though sometimes it is a hassle I would never want to go through this.
  7. Its been stormy and warm here the last couple of days and my dogs are loving it. Lots of puddles to play in , we have the wading pool set up so even though it was pouring before we had a good splash in the wading pool and off to off lead reserve to run around in the rain. Life doesnt get better than that. I love labradors coats, one minute sopping wet and muddy, a quick towel dry and good as new. Its amazing how the dirt just falls off them. I have no exuses not to go out in the rain as my two love it. The good thing is you can almost guarantee the reserve to yourself.
  8. I certainly agree with what your saying labsrule. I am not a first time dog owner but Mokha was my first labrador. Even now that he is a couple of years old he is so different to my rough sable collie girl "Lady". She would never have even thought of some of the things Mokha has gotten up to. So I was actually more confident with my first dog breed (collie) and am still getting the hang of these labradors. I am loving every minute of though,I would hate to deny a family the joy of a labrador just because they were a first time owner. I think education as to what to expect is more important.
  9. I am glad you made this post. This was something I discovered on a US breed specific dog forum after I came across many discussions the need to add vit E. I am sorry your dog had to suffer like this until the answers were found.
  10. I just caught up on this thread and wanted to firstly send you my condolences on the loss of your Grandfather. I can only imagine how stressful things are for you at the moment. I hope perhaps some good news will come through the blood test that show something treatable but if not please dont feel you have killed your dog by doing the responsible thing and heartworming and as the vet said it was a remote possiblity it was connected. Sending all my best wishes your way that things come good really soon.
  11. Hi Sherel, I have just emailed you to see if I can collect 2 bags from you at KCC park. Full size bags that is not samples. Only if you have the room of course in your car. Looking forwards to swapping my two to Black Hawk.
  12. Totally agree with your post. There is a lab I see at a beach dog park that wears a muzzle because he had obstruction surgery once before from eating seaweed. I dont automatically see a muzzle and think aggressive dog.
  13. My worst injury was a couple of broken ribs when Mokha got a frightened by a big scary cat and pulled me over. Considering I live with two labs and two cats I dont think I have done too bad. Whats a few bruises and scratches, a sprained wrist here and there when you get all that love.
  14. I just got my sample and I am very excited. It smells good too not like some others I have tried. The dogs love it and I offered it to my fussy cat and she ate it.
  15. I just got my samples of Black Hawk both dogs and cats. I know I have labs they eat anything but they went nuts for it. too my surprise my cats did too. I am very hopeful for this food as I will save a fortune on what I currently spend.
  16. Perhaps it is just a case of the whole litter not being exposed to car travel except for the sad ride to be made someone elses problem. Her only car trip may have been quite upsetting during and after. It may just be they all need a little time to get used to car travel, if she takes it slowly I am sure it can be overcome to some degree. Please be supportive of her decision to choose a rescue dog, I know my rescue girl Molly is an absolute joy to me as I am sure in time this little girl will be to your friend.
  17. Vets Own insurance has dental as an option, I pay about $2 a month extra for it. I have not claimed under it though as my dogs have good teeth.
  18. Would it be considered safe in your yard if you concreted or paved with some sort of protective liner underneath for a pup to run on that area only. I know its not ideal but perhaps you could have a sand pit for digging and plenty of shade with shade sails until such time that the grassed area is fine. Is it a risk to just be near the grass, I suppose if the soil blows around at all it could be inhaled. I just feel terrible for you. I went without a dog for 14 long years. Partly because I did not want my heart broken again. With work and children( with asthma triggered by dog and cat saliva) I felt I did not have enough time to devote to a pup. Look at me now though. In the space of two years I have made up for it with 2 dogs and 2 cats. I am not sure what breed of dog you had but could it be kept inside with an indoor loo tray and lots of walks off the property? If you waited just 6 months or so then perhaps it is a solution for the short term until the yard is safe again.
  19. I am so sorry for your situation. It must have been so heartbreaking giving your pup back but it shows what a good owner you are to put your pups needs first. I can only hope your soil quality can be brought to safe levels as quickly as possible. Perhaps you could put all that love for dogs into volunteering at a shelter, perhaps walking dogs, until you are able to get your own again. I sincerely hope the soil in your yard can be made safe very soon. I cannot even imagine how this is done without removing it all to a great depth. I hope you were able to get some sort of compensation or assistance from where you purchased your land if it was a developer. This serves as a warning to anyone buying a block of land that has had an old house demolished on it. It is scary stuff.
  20. Well I just emailed for a sample of Black Hawk and got a reply within a couple of minutes. Thanks Sherel. I cant wait to try it on my two. I will probably look at the cat food version too in the near future. Very happy with the service so far.
  21. I have insurance on both my dogs but it is more complicated than it first seems. It was great to say go ahead with Mokhas elbow surgery knowing we would get a big portion back. Would I have done the surgery any way even without insurance. Yes, no doubt about it. Mokha has one elbow and potentially both hips that in the future could require replacement surgery. My insurance may not pay for it even though they say the cover dysplasia, they may however cover a salvage type surgery. I was shocked to find this out and if Mokha would be better off with a hip replacement than say an FHO I would want to do it. Potentially it could cost me more than 15,000 to do all three surgeries, I would pay it but the question would be would I want to put him through all that surgery and the recovery afterwards. This is what I struggle with not cost. How much is too much to put them through to extend their life when you cant explain to them what is going on?
  22. Ruby Star How sweet is your Dad coming and picking up your dogs. I leave the aircon on and open the doggy door so they can go in or out whatever they wish. We have a lot of shade in our back yard including a large pergola area so they are ok.
  23. Thats good news. I can completely understand what it is like to have a dog that will eat anything. At least the solution (newspaper) is a nice ad cheap and easy to get.
  24. Well done with training Ben. I must admit that my two love to eat jelly fish too. Unfortunately it gives them a horrible upset stomach. If we are at the beach and the jelly fish are around I get sick of saying "leave it " but at least they mostly listen. Labradors will really eat anything wont they.
  25. I was wondering if Katie had finished pooping blanket yet? I can imagine how worrying it has been waiting for all the bits to come out as I have had one of my two with a bowel blockage in the past.
