  4. tweet0EmailPrintRED DOG DIES December 18, 2012, 1:10 pm Koko, the canine star of hit Aussie film Red Dog, has reportedly died in Perth aged seven of congestive heart disease. Fairfax has reported that the film's producer, Nelson Woss, was devastated to lose his "best mate." "I'll miss his companionship, his remarkable outgoing, friendly nature and the many long walks that we enjoyed together in Perth and around the country," Woss said. Koko, a red cloud kelpie, came to live with Woss in retirement after the film was completed, having originally been found by one of the film's dog trainers to star in the film. Koko reportedly learned over 50 commands for the film. Red Dog, based on the legendary true story of a red dog who united a disparate local community while roaming the Australian outback, was a surprise success for the Australian film industry, earning more than $20 million to become one of the top ten grossing Australian films in history. http://au.movies.yahoo.com/on-show/article/-/15664634/red-dog-dies/ R.I.P. Gorgeous boy. xxx
  5. This boy has gone from the pound website so looks like he's gone home!
  6. I can't remember who it was off the top of my head, but one of my rescues had exactly the same thing (only the red lump was much bigger) after desexing. There was a stitch left in there. The vet popped the red lump with a scalpel ( ) then removed the stitch and applied some cream to the area and it cleared up within days.
  7. Although I have mentioned Bear here on DOL before, I don't think I have ever introduced him properly. Bear (aka Rex by Mum) was one of my very first rescues from Blacktown pound back in Feb of 2009. I went to the pound to find Mum a new companion after she lost her 16yr old chi and came home with a dingo and a shepherd. Little I knew that trip to the pound that day would change my life forever. It was the day I began rescuing. :) Bear went straight to live with Mum and has spent the past 4 years (well almost 4 yrs) being spoiled a little too much, and loved by Mum. Sadly Mums circumstances changed (long story) and she was unable to care for Bear anymore. So I bought him home about 4 or 5 weeks ago. I was a little worried at first that Alaska wouldn't take to another dog living in her quarters but they took to one another as though they'd known each other forever and have been getting on great ever since. :) And although they are both 9 years old, they play and carry on as though they are pups. He loves to play fetch, loves water and is fantastic with the kids. I knew that already though as the kids got to see a fair bit of him while he lived at Mums. He is also a very smart boy and very affectionate too, and loves cuddles. Bear became extremely overweight living with Mum though. I begged Mum more than once not to overfeed him, but he reguarly dined on cooked steaks, roast chicken and the like. I asked her time and time again to just feed him raw meat and to cut down on his meal sizes but she'd never listen. It was so frustrating. Everytime I would visit he would be getting fatter and fatter. I honestly thought his belly would explode in the end or that his hips or heart would give way. Mum may of meant well but in reality she was slowly killing him with kindness. I am happy to say though that the weight is coming off. I have had him on a strict diet and can see a waistline now and can finally feel his ribs! :) Mum would also tell me that he would turn his nose up to raw meat/bones, (no wonder when he's got a never ending plate of cooked steak sitting there!), but he has eaten raw for me from day 1, and loves it. :) Anyways, without further ado, here is Bear. :) When he first came home last month. Taken about a week ago. You can see his waist! And this one taken this afternoon. :) It's easy to feel his ribs now. I have also had to re-adjust his collar twice these past couple weeks because it was getting too loose on him.
  8. Did you end up taking her to the vet Greylvr?

  12. He appears to be well cared for in the pic and he isn't due until the 28th so maybe his owners will come for looking for him.
  13. Thankyou Emma and WAR for all the hard work you've done for the animals that have been fortunate enough to come into your care. I wish you all lots of good karma (you deserve it!) and all the best for the future. xxx
  14. No I have no problems with anyone here except one who has proven to just want to be nasty. I mean if you dont like it and have nothing to give the conversation but rude, snarky comments then just dont reply thats easy but like you said have to take the good with the bad so no worries. I have been reading the thread but boy is it long lol There's a reason the thread is long, and it's no laughing matter. I agree. Definately no laughing matter.
