http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/offbe...ck-on-children/ The Collie shire council says the owner of a dog, which attacked five children at the weekend, could face a hefty fine. The children, aged between 11 and 12, were at a birthday party on Saturday evening in Steere Street when a bull terrier broke free from a house on the same street. The children were taken to hospital with two suffering serious injuries. The Collie shire president Wayne Sanford says the outcome could have been even worse. "In all dog attacks there is the potential for very grave outcomes if the injuries happen to vital areas of the body," he said. "The fact that it's happened to kids; there could be psychological and physical injuries that may take some considerable time to get over." Mr Sanford says dog owners need to be responsible for their pets. "What we've got to understand here is that dog owners need to be aware of their responsibilities and when there is an attack, the best the ranger service can do is respond to that," he said. Council spokesman Ron Van Delft says the dog has been put down and the owner faces a possible fine of up to $10,000. "Basically, once we've given the witnesses a bit of time to get over the shock and trauma, we will be taking statements," he said. "We will then assess all of the evidence and determine what an appropriate course of action might be."

Where To Buy Chicken Bones Etc Near Penrith
k9angel replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Red Lea chicken at Blacktown (right next to the pound) does good size boxes of chicken frames for $10. Or if youre willing to travel a little further on to Merrylands, there is a butcher that does them for $5 a box. They are big boxes of large & meaty carcases. (I cut them in half, bag them and take out of the tuckerbox freezer as required) Its good value - you can get anywhere from 20 to 40 meals out of one box for $5. You dont have to cut them in half you can serve them as. They are pretty big tho. I go through 2 to 3 boxes a week here. PLUS beef bones. But I have on average 10 med-largish dogs here at any one time. They do the beef bones for $1.50 per kilo too aswell as other weekly specials for the dogs. -
I am so sorry to hear this Steve. So heartbreaking for all involved. R.I.P. Baby

Pit Bulls Save Chihuahua From Near-fatal Coyote Attack
k9angel replied to melzawelza's topic in General Dog Discussion
It gives me goosebumps to read those stories. Theyre truly beautiful. -
First of all I want to congratulate you on deciding to adopt a shelter puppy. Good on YOU! By the sounds of it she has found herself a loving and caring home and is in the best of hands. I wouldn't worry too much, tho I know that is easier said than done. She is only young and the chances are, she will most likely grow out of it. I would also be getting a second opinion from another vet before rushing off to a specialist. All the best and please keep us updated. PS She looks adorable, give her a big smooch and hug from me. :D

Same.

I have spoken to the vet and explained everything. I told him about the head twitching and how she collapsed last night. I told him she didn't black out and go down with a thud, it was more like she was dizzy and knew what was coming so gently lowered to the floor and sat there for a moment until whatever it was had passed. He asked some general questions about her, her appetite, whether she was her normal self. I told him she was and she is apart from the head twitching. He said it could possibly be epilepsy. He said not to panic and that it wasn't an emergency but to bring her in during the week and he will take a look at her and run some tests depending on what he finds. I told him I will keep a close eye on her and watch to see if it happens again. So fingers crossed for my old girl. It has been a worrying night. I am a little more relieved now as I know if it was urgent Ross would of told me to bring her straight down and I also would of sensed the urgency in his voice, instead he sounded calm and confident about it all.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts. It means alot. Well I called the vet this morning (thought I had better prior to leaving) and his wife answered as Ross was busy in consults. I told Noelene about the symptoms and she said "Ahhh" as if she knows what it is. She told me sometimes older dogs have these kind of seizures. She asked me to call back at 12 when things should of quietened down and so I can speak to Ross directly. As for Gyps she is fine. She collapsed the 2 times last night but appeared fine afterwards. I didn't fall asleep until early hours of the morning with worry and when I awoke at 8 I got the fright of my life when I thought she wasn't breathing. I jumped up out of bed, heart pounding and pat her on the rump saying "Good morning 'Ol girl", she jumped up and was ready to go outside for a wee. She has been fine so far today but I am keeping a very close eye on her. Gypz is like one of my kids. (she is the one pic in my avatar) We been together since she was 8 mths old and how I came to have her in my life is a whole other story. She's my baby. I just hope this is nothing serious. Atm she is staring at me on the lounge. Would you believe she actually winks?. I taught her as a pup. No word of a lie, if I wink my eye at her she always winks back at me.
-
Thanks Guys. She has been asleep on her bed since the last episode and weve just coaxed her onto the lounge. She made it there ok. I will be getting her to the vet first thing in the morning. My hands are shaking, and my heart is racing. I feel sick to the stomach and I am so worried.
-
No she isn't on any cortisone. She went down for a second time and is now laying on her bed. She just ate some bikkies and appears fine otherwise. She just looked at me and cried. I am ready to go incase I have to take her to the emergency (after hours) vet at Bass Hill.

I noted during the past couple of weeks my Old girl Gypsy having little head twitches. It usually only happened if there was a sudden movement around her. I explained this all to the vet and they suspected as she is ageing and her eyes are getting a little opaque, that it was probably due to her starting to lose her sight and/or hearing with age. It wasn't happening all the time just occassionally. Tonight however, about 20 mins ago she did it again. I got to see it from start to finish and this time it was a little scarier as I observed with the twitching she went down on her front right leg. I saw it all in slow motion. She didn't fall. She kinda melted to the ground like a camel does but it was definately related to the twitching. She hasn't done that before. I am scared its a brain tumor or something else that's bad. Gypsy has had her fair share of ops. She has been desexed, had cysts removed from her eyelids, has had 2 surgeries to remove mammary tumours on seperate occassions, she has also managed to regain use of her back legs and tail after crushing a disc in her spine. She is tough old girl however after her last op, she almost didnt make it. It was a 3 hr long operation and it took her a long time to regain normal temperature afterwards. The vet admitted being worried about her. But tonight my heart stopped, literally. I felt sick to the stomach thinking she wasn't going to get up but after a minute or so, she got up and all was fine. Any ideas what this can be? has anyone elses dog had this before? Gypsy will be 11 on the 28th of this month. She is a husky. She will have to go back to the vet for tests this time, that was just scary. My belly is in knots as I watch her sleeping on the floor. She means so much to me and I am so scared of losing her. :p

I am hoping to bring Logan along tommorow to the HP reunion but not decided yet whether Logans coming, Jack or both. Anyways just incase Loges doesnt come tommorow here are some pics I got today. He is doing really well and is a clown of a dog. He is so playful and so loving. He has a gorgeous smile but a cheeky look in his eye in this one Love this one as he takes off with the lead on to play zoomies - look at the tongue hanging out as he runs And he is off and he is running.....Another action shot as he whizzes past.... and look at the smile on his chops, priceless Logan loves toys, unlike my resident huskies who usually turn their nose up to them :p And look at those fangs ;)

Shooting Of Husky In Dog Park By Off-duty Police Officer
k9angel replied to koalathebear's topic in In The News
That is so sad. By the sounds of it he had a crap life to start off with, found rescue and a home and then this R.I.P. boy -
Yep the good old poop in the hole does the job (for me anyways) its been a while since my 2 youngest were pups but it used to work for them too. Now young Luki has hit the 8 mth old mark, he is a terror and was digging trenches in our once beautiful yard I filled them in and put the dog cack on top and he hasnt dug since. Now I just have to wait for the grass to grow back. the joys of puppyhood Oh and if that fails, try sprinkling pepper over the filled in holes and randomly over the grass - that works a treat also. Good luck

R.I.P. baby. ;) So Sorry to hear of your loss.

It was so funny. I went to the pet supplies store yesterday to get some straw for the guinea pigs and also picked up some treats as I do. Anyways I got a bag of pig ears and these other smoked/dried pig hocks and some of their fav bickies. I gave the dogs a treat this morning and Luki got a smoked hock thing (whatever their called) Blacky and Whitey ate theirs first while Luki sat on his, playing Dog with it. Eventually the chase was on. Blacky and Whitey having finished theirs went after Luki. Gee it was funny. They'd go from one end of the yard to the other, stop sit down while Luki got to eat some of his treat, then the chase would be on again. I got a couple pics thru the back door. Whitey watches the treat from the front, while Blacky keeps an eye on it from behind Theyre staring at Luki's treat, waiting to pounce on it Look at Blackys face, she's looking at Whitey as if to say "No you don't - I saw it first"... and Luki's giving Whitey a nah nah nah nah nah look, like you can't get me.... Blacky studies the content of his mouth with interest, hoping it will fall out :D And look at the prance Luki's doing. His ear is turned back listening to see if Whitey is after him aswell. Whitey is stalking and isn't about to give up. I love the smiles and the tails in the air as they prance. :D I am glad they all get along well. Infact when Luki was away the other day having his op, they seemed to miss him. Everytime I opened the back door, they were there like they were waiting for him to barrell out. But when he didn't they looked dissapointed. I guess it would be fun having a youngster about. Blacky and Whitey are 6 and see him as a ball of fun, it's bought back their youth. I am proud of the way Luki has turned out. He is fantastic with other dogs and terrific with the kids. He is the perfect family dog.

Yeah he has got me stumped. I found a pic a few weeks ago on GT of a German husky (must be the name they call a husky x shep blend these days ) and the pic was so much like Luki. I will upload it. But I thought possibly lab x too??? Here it is:
