  1. Thanks, Anne & Bommy, I appreciate the info. I'll be sure to pass around the advice that if you have an itchy bum, WORM YOURSELF!
  2. Both vets had heard of threadworms but had not heard of humans taking meds to "worm" themselves.[uNQUOTE] What do they do in a case of threadworms if they dont give their children medication to get rid of the problem? Just let the kids remain infested with threadworms. They are quite contagious. Threadworms can be seen in children, in the case of a bad infestation, in their faeces. They can also be seen crawling around the anus at night when children are asleep. It is necessary to shine a torch there at night to see the worms. If you don't investigate the possibility of infestation then I guess you would be unaware as to whether or not worms were present. Betcha they are common in every country in the world though They are not restricted to the Australian environment. Anne, I guess I was confused by some of the responses by people in this thread. It seemed to me that people on the forum were taking meds to worm themselves without ever knowing if they had worms or not. Was I mistaken? Of course if there was an infestation of threadworms a child would be treated. Makes sense to treat an illness/problem, no? What symptoms would be present in a child infested with threadworms? Is the only way to check for infestation by shining a flashlight on the anus? I'm sure we have them here, but I have never heard of them. Two other people from another dog list have never heard of them either (one in North Carolina and another in Louisiana). Thanks for educating me. Susie
  3. Both vets had heard of threadworms but had not heard of humans taking meds to "worm" themselves. I just talked to my sister (an R.N. for 25 years) and she had never heard of doing that either. She has two kids and one grandson and has not encountered any cases of threadworms in her years of nursing. Guess they're not that common over here.
  4. Talked to my vet and his one of his colleagues (she's Canadian) and they had never heard of worming humans or taking a preventative like the dogs do. They thought it rather odd and looked at me funny when I asked about it. I will ask on one of my other dog lists if others do it or have heard of it before. DOL is VERY educational!! Susie
  5. I had never heard of worming humans before today. Are worms common amongst humans in Oz? I will have to ask my vet about that tomorrow. VERY interesting! Susie
  6. Natasha, I don't think it's wise to take one of the pills and break it up for two dogs. You may want to check with your vet before doing that.
  7. We use Sentinel with our dogs. Very good product. Susie
  8. I have had a $40.00 gift certificate from Amazon.com for over a year. I just bought: Culture Clash The Other End of the Leash On Talking Terms with Dog With shipping it was even-steven with my GC!!! I should get them next week. It will be fun to read up again. Sometimes even after many years it is a good idea to refresh the brain!!!
  9. Diane Bauman trained her rescue Afghan to a CDX, MX, MXJ and I think a FCh in lure coursing. I believe she also put an OTCh on a rescue pekingese. She wrote a book called "Beyond Basic Dog Training". I think it has been revised a few times. She is known for finding rescues of non-traditional obedience breeds and kicking @$$ with them in the ring. You might try her book.
  10. Two of our dogs have KC right now. Both are on Clavamox & cough tablets. I know the one picked it up when she was having her preliminary OFA films done at the vet's. The other one is 7.5 months and he got it from her. The others are fine and I don't expect them to get it. Both Kami & Eddie were vaccinated for bordatella, but they picked it up anyway. They are doing ok and the coughing is minimal. Not fun, but not tragic either. Hope both pups are 100% soon! Susie
  11. RIP sweet Felix. You had a loving mum during your short life. Enjoy heaven!!
  12. Molasses, I haven't seen anything as fancy as what is in Oz. Yours look like mini hot tubs! Some of our dog shows have raised up plastic bathing tubs that have a rubber bottom with a drain, but nothing as advanced as what you have. Most grooming salons here have regular human bathtubs that are raised up off the ground. Your hydrobaths look nice! Are they expensive? Susie
  13. Basically, you can see some examples here. Thanks, Molasseslass. They look pretty fancy!
  14. What is a hydrobath?? Is it a portable plastic bathtub with a drain?
  15. Bathtub with a detachable shower massage. Bathed there, toweled off and blow dried on the grooming table in our dog room.
  16. Hydrogen peroxide is what a lot of people use here to induce vomiting in dogs. A tablespoon usually does the trick. Apomorphine is great to keep around if your vet will let you have some. Just a tiny tablet under the eyelid and the dog will usually puke in a few minutes. Hope all goes well with your dogs! Susie
  17. Rozzie, I am so sorry about your fur baby. Please know there are many of us that understand and will be here for you. Four years ago our Bouvier was acting strange one day, she couldn't lie down comfortably, she kept popping up into a standing position and would cry. I took her in for x-rays and she had osteosarcoma of the spine...the tumor had eaten away two of her vertebrae. She was painful and we decided to let her go that night at our vet's office in our arms. Bone cancer comes on like gangbusters and there is nothing that can be done about it. Hugs to you and your baby. Susie
  18. KitKat, Thank you for the info/website!! I appreciate you. Susie
  19. Yes, I exported him to Oz a year ago October. I know he completed his FCh, but didn't know if he was still running. Is there a website I can visit that has results? Thanks so much, Molasseslass.
  20. Are y'all lure coursing in Qld? Have you ever seen a Malinois named Flip run? Just wondering. Thanks! Susie
  21. Ollie was a magnificent dog and showman. I remember showing a FCR in the sporting group about 12 years ago against Dennis & Ollie. Don't you mean that Ollie was the patriarch instead of matriarch since he was a male?? His son "Ike", Ch Jordean I Kid You Not, was also a great Brittany. Not sure if Ike is still alive, but he was an incredible show dog too. My condolences to all on the loss of Ollie. He had a good, long life and was an impressive boy.
  22. But the downside is that this dog will have more issues such as being more aggressive around other dogs, barking a lot. I can't stand dogs that are dog-aggressive and that bark just for the hell of it (no reason other than to hear themselves bark). No matter how awesome a dog was, I could not live with those two traits. Currently I am trialing two dogs in agility. Two others are in training but are not trial ready. One is a balls-to-the-wall FAST dog and the other is a steady, super-accurate dog. Keeps me on my toes as a trainer, to be sure!! Both girls are steady, stable, friendly and easily trained. They simply possess their own styles and I have to learn to run accordingly.
