  1. I seriously don't know if they really knew it was an off leash park or not. I'm pretty sure that there will dogs running around when they arrived and set up. There are always dogs in this park, no matter what time of the day or night it is. Not sure if anyone went up to them to talk them, I kept my 2 away from them as much as possible. There are a lot of parks around where I live That's what confused and surprised me when I saw them. What I found amusing is that they bought their own BBQ set, when around the park there is no facilities for bbq. There are no taps, sinks, toilets or anything that shows that this area is a great place for a bbq Maybe I'm weird because before I start any bbq, the first thing I look for is a tap and a table bench before I set up..
  2. I totally understand it's a public park and that everyone has the right to use it. I think that's why all the other dog owners kept away from them at most part, and try to give them a big space. This park is huge and dogs are use of people on there playing soccer, ride bikes, do some fitness training, fly a kite and couples are often seen on the hills cuddling and stuff. So, majority of the dogs that goes there are pretty good and owners all seem to be responsible dogs owners. Seriously, there rarely any incident at the park. But this is the first time, I've ever seen anyone set up BBQs at the park. I was stunned at that. And, none of them have dogs and most of them were scared of dogs!! Then, again, even the most trained dogs aren't robot and seeing raw steak on a table can be too much for that dog, and the dog will try his/her chances on that steak :p There are signs saying it's off leash dog park, and there is a big signs with all the rules for dogs owners too (there was 3 signs at each entrance of the park).. you can't miss it unless you aren't paying attention, but garbage bins are chain to the pole where the signs are held, so how can you miss it?
  3. On Sunday afternoon, I took the Sibs to their favourite dog park. To my surprised, I saw a huge asian gathering at the DOG PARK... they bought their own gazebos, bbq sets, tables, chairs, mats etc. They basically position themselves in the middle of the park where we all had to walk pass. There were about 50 of them from all ages. What killed me and scratch my head is that none of them own dogs. Then, later discovered, majority of them were scared of dogs. Anytime a dog go near them, they will scream in fright and start yelling at the dogs owners. This was at a dog park! There are signs saying that it's an off leash dog park. People bring their dogs there. At the time, there was about 6 dogs in total at the park, granted it's a huge park and we all kept out distance from the gathering. Then, the bbq smell was too much for some dogs, that they had to go over to investigate what the smell was and hoping to get some food. That, of course, some screams, crying, yelling and arguments. From the group. The people who were there with their dogs, just simply go get their dog and walk away. One guy, who owned a big dog, had to save his dog from 3 men who was waving sticks at the dog to keep him away (one did try to hit the dog)... call his dog over, he was about to have a go at him and then shook his head and told me, 'they aren't f!@#ing worth it'... leashed his dog and went home. Anyway, I thought that's an interesting story to share

  7. Same with me. I live in Melbourne - there is no such thing as a dog park here. There are parks that allow dogs to go offleash, but they are shared spaces, with kids playing etc around the dogs. So people with crazy dogs don't last very long. I have no choice but to use off leash areas (for my well socialised boy, not my girl), otherwise my dog would never get to run off leash (I have no garden at present). On leash walking doesn't provide the same amount of exercise. That said, I only go at quiet times, I leave as soon as the few trouble makers arrive (if they're there when I arrive, I drive to another park) and I leave when - gasp - certain breeds pitch up because they have a different playing style to my boy and are very powerful. I never walk directly into a park, take off the leash and let him run off. I enter through the quieter entrance, get his focus, take off the leash and then play a game with him. I never let him play with the main "pack" of dogs at the centre of the park either. Often simple precautions ensure the safety of your small dog. This is pretty much what I do too. I take Em to the park because she is huge on zoomies and needs a lot of room just to run around and be an idiot. Charlie likes the parks because lizards are bigger at the park and more fun to hunt (he rarely catches them though but he enjoys the hunt)
  8. I must go to the most nicest dog park or something... there are rarely any incident at that park, or not when I'm there anyway.
  9. I have 2 small dogs. They are socialise with dogs I know but I also take my 2 to the park. No fence park though. I don't really let my dogs play with other dogs. They are there to walk around, be around other dogs and people, but don't have to play or acknowleadge them. If a dog rushes over, I do step in front and divert the other dogs attention to me so my dogs are ready for it and it also calms the big dog down. I also go at a time where I know when it's not busy too.
  10. OMG.. how scary for you!!! Some people are really idiots.
  11. Like others, all the Paps I know are sport dogs... I love watching them do flyball!

  14. RIP Miss Molly to you!!!
  15. Oh Charlie (the Cavalier x). He can be so full of himself... we were at a friend's house one night, and there were several big dogs running around and he was on the couch snoozing. They were playing too loudly near him that he only gave them 1 look and they all kept away from him... he growled at a GSD who went to his owner for a sook. He is only 5kg.
  16. You know.. I have 2 small breed dogs and neither one of them have issues with big dogs. In fact, Charlie, kind of find other little dogs really annoying and rather hang out with the big guys. My fella has attitude... he gives one look to a big dog, and they back off from him. One growl and they stay well away from him. He isn't the kind of dog who will rush another big dog, he was taught manners and how to greet other dogs. It's all depends on how you socialise and train them, and with who. If you over protect your little one, that teaches them to be scared of things and makes matter worst.
  17. You know.. I had a guy thanking me once when I was at the beach with my 2. He had a large breed dog and they were playing fetch or something when we came, he quickly clipped his dog. I took Charlie and Emmy away from him, and he called out 'Is it ok if he can let his GSD off leash?' and I replied 'It's an off leash park' not realising why he asked that till later on. My 2 played around at the beach and left them alone, he played on the other side with his dog and left my 2 alone. It was a very peaceful and fun afternoon for humans and dogs :D When he was leaving, he walked passed and thanked me. I was stunned and I thanked him too. I got to pat his dogs and he pat mine, our dogs all said hello and then we said bye. So I get what you're saying bonniek
