  1. Luckily my aunt isn't allergic, she's just had a stafford before and doesn't want to deal with all that fur if she can avoid it! Lol.
  2. I really think the lowchen might be perfect!! I've sent her a link to this thread  Thanks so much for all the contributions, would still love any contributions from anyone who knows any of the breeds!

  4. Ah!! How could I forget the Lowchen!! They could be perfect for her, as her husband prefers a dog that isn't all white - she liked the Havanese for this reason but we're pretty sure they're going to be out of her price range from snippets we've seen. So lowchen are also non-shedding? Can you tell menof any health tests that should be done? And are you aware of the general ball park for their pricing?
  5. Thanks for the info guys!! The bichon sounds like it could be a good bet based on what you've said halfthewords. Keep it coming!!
  6. Hello lovelies! I posted recently about my aunty being interested in Silky Terriers - well we've branched out into the other non-shedders during our research and I was hoping anyone who had any info could post it in this thread - and i'd really love any breeder recommendations if people want to PM them to me! I'm a big dog person so I don't know a huge amount about the littlies. Havanese - I read the breeds 101 thread which gave me lots of info, i'd just love to know what health tests we should be checking for and the average price. Maltese - I couldn't find a breed 101 OR a breed sub forum thread!!! What's going on, I thought these little guys were so popular! I'd love to know about temperament pros & cons, recommended health testing and average price. Bichon - same as maltese. If anyone has any info on these guys i'd love to hear it ( even better if you know two of the breeds and can compare them to each other!) and i'd really really love breeder recommendations. Thanks so much! Mel
  7. Hey guys, Currently am aware of a dog in a NSW pound which has the 'look' of a RB. She is not microchipped and has 7 days to be reclaimed. I would like to pay for her to have a Breed Assessment ( and then Temperament Test if needed) so that she can hopefully be cleared and then able to be rehomed. Was just looking into making arrangements and realised that a Notice of Intent must be given for the BA & TT to be valid. SO- how do you get an NOI issued on an unmicrochipped unowned dog?? I am fairly confident she will pass the tests (and even if I wasn't it's worth a try!), but i've suddenly realised that there's a bit of a loophole here that i'm not sure how to fix. Has anyone done this before with an unmicrochipped dog in the pound? Do you chip her? and if so who to? Is she allowed to be chipped seeing as currently she is wearing the badge of a RB X??
  8. That was beautiful. My god Hector is gorgeous - I would kill for a dog just like him in looks and temperament.
  9. That is amazing. If only we could get like that here. It will never happen though, an entire culture and attitude towards dogs would have to change.
  10. Yup they look really good to me! If you put your hands on them can you feel their ribs without pushing? that's the best indication
  11. Absolutely brilliant!! Did anyone notice hoe bad the labs hips were as well? Poor boy - I guess he won't live long enough for them to cause him huge trouble.
  12. I also until very recently have been a trainer in kennels and as such have met thousands and thousands of dogs of every breed and cross breed imaginable. There have been plenty of dogs that I have really disliked and been happy to see them go! I probably wouldn't say hate though. There is one welsh terrier that I really do hate, and a few lakelands that have grated me really badly, so i'm not really a huge fan of either breed, but i'm sure there are plenty of lovely ones around to change my mind.
  13. The process ( or lack of process ) followed with your poor dog absolutely sickens me. Please if you can, follow through with this to try and stop it ever happening again. I wasn't aware of the issues with Kogarah council - can someone PM me and fill me in? I am about to start a new job where this sort of information would be very useful.
  14. Thats what I was thinking - I know a lot of breeds don't require testing but it doesn't mean the breeder shouldn't be doing it. As far as checking Patellas, is it a specific xray like hips that will see results on a piece of paper or just part of a general vet check?
  15. Wow, really? Is that because they're not prone to anything or just that it hasn't come around to being required yet? Anything that they should be doing regardless of whether it's required or not?
  16. Oh and also what health testing must be done for Aus Silky Terriers?
  17. Hi guys! I have an aunty in Cairns that has always bought BYB maltese X silky... she is a wonderful dog owner but just has no idea why this is a bad idea. Her beloved dog recently died from complications from a tick, and she has been in mourning and wanting another dog of the same cross. I've been keeping an eye out in the pounds etc as I told her I couldn't recommend a BYB to her and she has also been looking through rescue. Problem is she only wants a pup. We just had a long chat and through the conversation we managed to get her interested in a pure silky from a registered breeder. I explained all about health testing, knowledgable people breeding well temperamented dogs etc and she is now really interested. Can anyone recommend me some really great silky breeders? Doesn't have to be in QLD as she agreed that the breeder knows the dogs best and could pick a pup for her. Any in Sydney would be great though as she's coming to visit in a few weeks and we could go and meet the breeder and dogs etc. I really want her to meet some well bred silkys and experience the great service you get from a good breeder, as I know she will then be sold ! Feel free to PM as well if you prefer not to post here. Would also like people to let me know of any breeders to avoid too. Thanks! Mel
  18. This product looks good, but we have trees and shrubs all the way around our fenceline so any cat can just enter and leave by running up a tree and leaping over the fence. I imagine you would need a clear fenceline with no large trees for this to be 100% effective. Very good point, it would depend on the setup of the yard.
  19. I would draw their attention to this product: http://www.oscillot.com.au/ This is what I plan to use when I own my own home to keep my cats on my property and stop other peoples cats entering. If it's only your yard they're worried about they could just do your side of the fence although it would be much more preferable for them to just keep their cat in their yard by doing the whole fence line.
  20. I watched it- what an amazing man!!! I was nearly in tears when the cat was up walking (he looks so much like my little girl)
  21. I was considering starting this exact thread in the next couple of days! We are currently renting and am not in the position for a puppy right now - however buying is on the cards hopefully within the next two years so I've been wanting to research and contact some breeders now. Thank you for some of the recommendations! Very helpful.
  22. Fantastic. Great photo and article. I hope the council has to pay all the kennel fees.
  23. Just finished watching all six parts and bawled my eyes out. The poor little bastard that couldn't fight anymore and they electrocuted to kill her. Assholes. Sick twisted assholes. It really is hard watching but like you Keira&Phoenix I'm glad I watched it. Ignorance certainly is bliss and this needs to be made more public so more people will do what is possible to help. If I was ever to travel to the US, I too would like to volunteer with the rescue programs. Does anyone know the extent of dog fighting in Australia?
