  1. Lol you need to watch an episode of 'hoarders' - it will scare you into throwing things away!!
  2. There is no actual time described in the NSW companion animals act. The act describes nuisance barking as barking thy it 'continuous and persistent' which is open to interpretation. Every council will have their own idea or guideline of what they consider to be 'continuous and persistent', but a lot of councils have a general guideline of 10-15 mins of the hour. Less if it's unsociable hours (late at night, early morning) From what she's described most councils wouldn't consider to be nuisance. But is she out of the house a lot? They may be barking when she isn't there. The supporting letters from neighbour's is great and I would encourage her to send those to council.
  3. Do you remember which news station it was featured on? I'd love to see the footage. It saddens me that this dog won't have the same opportunities that Buster has had.
  4. I'm really interested in this, if she walks perfectly and you're holding a lead, why the need to have her unclipped? What is the benefit if you are just walking down a footpath? Its not like she's in an open space running around, she's right next to you walking, so why not clip her up just for safety?
  5. Sorry, while he shouldn't have screamed and been rude to you, he was 100% in the right. Sounds like his dog doesn't like other dogs, it could have easily been attacked by an off lead dog before. If 'everyone walks their dogs off lead' he's probably just had enough. I wouldn't blame him.
  6. Very scary. The poor man, only trying to do what is right.
  7. And yet another mark against the pit bull. But of course no one will consider the life his dog may have led. And I very much doubt he will have any sort of assessment like Buster did. The dog will likely need to be euthanized anyway but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be assessed along with the situation it has been living in. How will we ever learn about attacks if this doesn't happen?? I'd really like to see a picture of the dog.
  8. Thats my issue too Keira! I promised the OH no more pets until we own.
  9. LOL my situation is exactly the same Ruth! If it was up to me she'd be here right now!
  10. In NSW the companion animals act says that it is not considered an 'attack' if a dog is reasonably defending territory. Can't speak for other states though.
  11. Jack Russell x Shar Pei! He was so hilarious looking. Video below: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Mel...za/d3bfcc7e.mp4 He was only about Jack Russell size , maybe slightly bigger.
  12. You seem to think a dog would only have to go through the process if it or the owner had done something wrong. This is NOT the case. Someone could be walking their dog down the street in a perfect heel and an 'authorised officer' could drive past and decide that dog was a pit bull and start the ball rolling for the whole process. In fact this is the way it happens the majority of the time.
  13. Definitely your local council. You may find the lady has already Reported it but it's great if you ring because the council can take your witness testimony. Horrible situation. And for the record I would have done the same as you.
  14. Sorry I didn't make that clear. They are dispelling the myth of the 'red nose pitty' and actually teaching just just because it has a red nose DOESN'T necessarily mean it's a pit bull.
  15. Someone I know has done this course and said that the content isn't really how to ID pit bull, it's more putting to bed the myths about them i.e anything with a red nose is a pit bull and that sort of rubbish. She said it's more a 'how to ID what is NOT a pit bull rather than what is. I still don't know if that's a good thing or not. It's good for the idiot rangers who think anything with a red nose deserves an NOI put on it, but it is still playing along the same lines of saying you can ID a breed by looking at it which is an attitude that needs to change.
  16. I can't believe a dog that fat could win crufts!! He's beautiful under being so overweight, but he's still overweight!!
  17. Surely if those dogs are best at what the breed is supposed to do, then it is the show labs that have deteriorated ??
  18. ^^ I have spent time with one of the people very high up in AWL QLD and he is certainly not against ethical breeders. If you'd read the article or the getting to zero program - it aims at only rehoming animals with no behavioual issues OR issues that can be worked with. So a dog that is as you've described would not be rehomed.
  19. I had no idea!!! This is bloody brilliant
  20. oops, I was on my iphone, I meant to say CAN'T train for, LOL
  21. Bump for my Aunty! Anyone know if lowchen are happy to sit on your lap and cuddle at the end of the day?
  22. This is one thing I've been a little concerned about while searching for future puppy. I have been looking into Amstaff pups and believe this is the breed for me, however I currently have two cats. I have a lot of history in dog training and plan to work very hard at socialising pup with cats, dogs, people, objects etc - but predatory drift is not something you can 'train' for. Pup and cats would be seperated when I'm not home, but it seems this can happen so quickly.
  23. Hello it is the Aunty here. Thanks for your reply. I have just lost my darling silky/maltese girl after 12 years. I always planned getting another silky/maltese, but am now because of the advice I have received about genetic testing etc I am considering the pedigree option. I am not considering a poodle because of their associated health problems. I know that all dogs have some but the poodles pancreatic cancer is not very nice. (my sister had one lovely lovely boy). I was worried that the Lowchens may not be 'cuddly' as I would love to cuddle up at the end of the day. :-) Are your Lowchens happy to turn in to lapdogs at the end of the day? I believe the Havanese are very happy to sit on laps. Would love to hear more advice.
